It sounds like you are concerned with the need for the Ring Home Plan subscription. The Ring Home Plan provides valuable capabilities, such as accessing paid features and the ability to save, download, and review footage captured by your Ring device. Without a Ring Home Plan, you can still view real-time video for Ring doorbells and cameras and answer doorbell notifications when they happen, but you don’t get video recordings of those events.

It sounds like you are concerned with the need for the Ring Protect Plan subscription. At Ring, we work hard to be completely transparent in both our products, and the optional services in which we provide. The Ring Protect Plan is mentioned on our Ring packaging, on our website, and in the welcome email you received upon setting up your device. Your Ring products provide their standard features (real-time notifications, live view, and two-way talk) without any subscription. Ring Protect Plans offer downloading and sharing video capabilities and additional features for those who want them.

The Ring Battery Doorbell and the Ring Indoor Cam is designed to be a DIY home security solution that can be trusted to provide you with lasting coverage. We are here to provide you with some information to resolve the Ring app issue that you mentioned in your review.

The Ring app puts you in control of your home’s security from your smartphone, tablet, or computer. Now that you've downloaded the app and set up your Ring device, get familiar with the command center for all your Ring products. The Dashboard is the first screen you'll see when you open the Ring app. It has three main sections:

The tiles at the top of the screen which can be moved around and organized using the edit tile.
Images from your security cameras or doorbells, which you can tap to quickly get to "Live View."
Ring announces new device features and app controls in "What's New" section. The menu (≡) is always in the same place in the upper-left corner of the app. Tapping on it will open a side menu and give you access to the rest of the app's functions.
