The picture was OK for a while, but then began to get grainy. Also, the software was very slow. This fourth generation ring is a huge step forward. Picture quality is very sharp, even at night and the software is very fast. Definitely worth the purchase.

I love seeing who’s at the door and being able to communicate to visitors when I’m away or unsure about opening the door to a stranger. The app is great and I’ve paired the wireless cameras by my garage and in the backyard.

You do beed to pay for the service to see photos that aren’t real time. But that is only necessary if you want go back and look at photos. Draw back is, it doesn’t easily connect to your homes existing doorbell system. So the ring sound isn’t easily heard.

However, after about a year of use. The device started go through the rechargeable batteries...about 1 each week. I am happy I bought a back-up set of chargeable Ring batteries. I am taking the doorbell back for a replacement. Buy the replacement plan!

Having longevity in a battery-powered security device is crucial when it comes to monitoring your home, especially if you are away for long periods of time. We are here to provide you with some education to resolve the battery life issue you mentioned in your review.
It sounds like you are concerned about the battery life of your Ring device. Video Doorbell 4 is Ring’s battery video doorbell with features including color Pre-Roll technology, 1080p HD video, two-way talk, Advance Motion Detection, enhanced dual-band wifi and Quick Replies. With color Pre-Roll, users can see even more of what’s happening outside their front door.There are some troubleshooting steps that you can take to ensure that you have your device set up for optimal performance.
As cold weather sets in, lithium-ion batteries like those used in Ring Doorbells and Security Cameras may experience several issues including trouble holding a charge, running out of power faster than normal, or losing functionality. Knowing at what temperature batteries will start to be impacted can help you take the necessary steps to keep your device working. When the temperature drops to:
36°F (3°C): The battery may not hold a charge as effectively, resulting in having to charge the unit more frequently.
32°F (0°C): The battery may not charge at all. Even hardwired configurations may not charge the battery.
-5°F (-20.5°C): The battery may stop working completely until temperatures warm up.
When it gets cold and your device's battery runs out, bring your entire device inside and charge the battery with a USB cord. This will allow your device to warm up while the battery charges.
The more events captured by your Ring devices, the more your battery is used. Using Live View often can also drain your battery faster. If your device is capturing an excessive number of events each day, you may need to recharge your battery sooner. To prevent excessive activity, under Motion Settings for your device in the Ring app you can:
Adjust your Motion Sensitivity slider to a lower sensitivity.
Redraw your Customizable Motion Zones.
Change Motion Frequency to regularly or periodically.
You could also adjust the direction of your Ring device so it doesn't detect as much motion.
You can go to Power Settings in the Ring app to see what features may be draining your battery.
To access Power Settings, open the Ring app:
Tap menu (≡) on the top left of the Dashboard.
Tap Devices.
Tap the individual device (video doorbell or security camera) you want to check.
Tap Power Settings to check your Battery Level percentage and Feature Power Usage .
Tap a feature to adjust Snapshot Capture, Motion Frequency and Video Recording Length.

You know when your packages are being delivered or when there is any movement at your front door. One of the greatest features is being able to answer your front door from anywhere and talk with the person.

Doorbell 4 is great! The video is clearer and everything is much faster than before. Only thing that troubled me was if the screws were not in all the way, the cover doesn't close correctly.

Easy set up and install, and great app. Only gripe is taking it apart to recharge the battery. I get there’s a wired system but it wasn’t a option for me. I think I’m going to buy extra batteries because they do take some time to recharge. Battery life is good also!

It's quite good and I like the features. My only knock is the battery doesn't last nearly as long as advertised and told by word of mouth. It takes a long time to charge. Buy yourself a spare battery to have as backup. That's the only reason I gave it 4 starts instead of 5
