Solid Video Doorbell
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an effective, easy-to-install doorbell with a few drawbacks (e.g. camera sometimes misses people in motion zone, pre-roll footage is low definition). If you're looking to get into the Ring ecosystem, it serves its purpose, but it doesn't seem drastically improved over the previous version.

Read reviews carefully before making a decision
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Don't waste your time, my camera is always out of focus, doesn't pick up someone at the front door banging on it with the camera right there at their chest level, video quality is grainy, night vision doesn't work- it just records it all black even though there is a light, very dissatisfied with my purchase and wish I took it back instead of messing with the settings trying to get it to work and missed my window to get my $240 Dollars back, also replacement battery doesn't last as long as the one it came with for some weird reason.

Posted .Hi TaraB.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand the importance of having your Ring Video Doorbell 4 detect motion and record clear and concise videos, so that you can effectively monitor your home. The Ring Video Doorbell 4 was designed to capture motions based on your specifications to help keep your home secure. Rest assured, we are here today to provide you with some information in order to ensure you get the most out of your motion detection and video recordings! We are confident we can find a solution that works well for you and your home’s environment.
It sounds like the device is not performing as expected. It is important to ensure that you have the proper motion settings in place for your environment. This camera uses adjustable motion detection and runs on passive infrared sensors. The system identifies visitors via a moving heat signature and sends a notification to your smart device when one is detected. You can adjust three preset motion zones and their distances under the "Motion Settings" tab on the device's page in the Ring app. Additionally, you can choose how often the camera checks for movement in those predefined zones via the "Motion Frequency" setting. If you find that your camera is missing some motions, please set the motion frequency to "Frequently."
Accuracy in motion detection can also be improved by enabling the "Smart Alerts" feature for people only in your Ring app. To enable "Smart Alerts," please follow these steps:
Tap the menu (≡) on the top left.
Tap "Devices."
Tap the device that you want to adjust.
Tap "Motion Settings."
Tap "Smart Alerts."
Tap "Enable Feature."
Tap "Continue."
Select the notification options that you want for "Person" and "Other Motion."
You'll see a video camera where you can select or de-select recording and a bell icon to represent alert notifications.
After you've adjusted your settings, tap "Done."
If you would like greater detail in the brightly lit areas of the still images and videos taken by your Ring Video Doorbell 4, you can use the High Dynamic Range ( HDR) toggle in your Ring app.
Follow these steps to activate HDR:
Open your Ring app.
Open the Menu by tapping the three parallel lines (≡) on the top left corner.
Tap "Devices."
Select the device you want to adjust.
Tap "Device Settings."
Tap "Video Settings."
Tap the HDR toggle button to make sure it's blue.

Posted .Hi MamaBear.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.
We understand how critical it is for your device to work consistently and reliably. The features and technology provided by the Ring Video Doorbell 4 are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We would love the opportunity to ensure your device is working as intended.
It sounds like your device does not have a reliable wifi signal. One of the most important measurements in your Ring security network is the strength of your wifi signal. Since every element of your system uses wifi to communicate with every other element of your system, it’s important to get as strong a signal as possible. If your internet speeds are good, you may have an issue with the strength of the signal between your router and the Ring device. Signal strength is just as important as speed when it comes to transmitting a video image from your Ring device to your Ring app.
To check the strength of your wifi signal, do the following:
Open your Ring app.
Tap on the three lines on the top left of the screen.
Select Devices.
Tap on the Ring device you would like to test.
Tap on the Device Health tile.
On the Device Health screen, look at your signal strength under the Network section.
Once you've tested your signal strength, visit our support center for tips and tricks to improve the signal strength of your device.

||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had difficulty in installing on my door as my door panel where existing bell was had a wall blocking one side ,so I could not reach to tighten screws on one side. Posted .Hi Gamerguy.
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us.
We understand how important it is to have your Ring Video Doorbell 4 capture all the correct motion events. Consistent and dependable motion alerts are an essential feature for the Ring Video Doorbell 4 to function properly. We can definitely assist you with this today, and we are confident we can find the correct settings for your home’s environment.
It sounds like your device is not detecting the motion you are wanting it to. Ring battery devices have a feature called motion frequency that can be adjusted to detect more or less motion at your device. Motion Frequency for battery-powered Ring devices allows you find the right balance between volume of alerts and battery life preservation. There are three settings to choose from:
Frequently: Motion detection always stays active; shortest battery life.
Regularly: Motion detection takes a short break after each motion alert. Medium battery life.
Periodically: Motion detection takes a longer break after each alert. Maximum battery life.

Posted .Hi Thisisus.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We understand the importance of having a solid charge on your Ring Video Doorbell 4 so that you are able to have a longer time between charge cycles. Having longevity in a battery-powered security device, such as the Ring Video Doorbell 4, is crucial when it comes to monitoring your home, especially if you are away for long periods of time.
I would be happy to address your concerns regarding the issues that you are experiencing with the need to charge the battery when the device is hardwired. If you've hardwired your battery-operated Ring Video Doorbell 4, your Quick Release Battery Pack may occasionally need to be recharged.
Unlike a hardwired Ring Doorbell (e.g., Ring Doorbell Pro), a battery-operated doorbell does not use the electricity generated by the hardwiring to power its regular operations. Instead, it uses the provided rechargeable battery to detect motion and generate a live view. The charge from the hardwiring supplies a trickle charge to the battery. Depending on what functions the doorbell is performing, the battery may drain faster than the hardwiring charge can keep up with.
Since the amount of power used is dependent on your settings and the functions your doorbell is performing, here are a few tips to maximize battery life:
Keep the amount of time you're in Live View to a minimum.
Adjust your "Motion Settings" to minimize the number of false positive alerts.
Turn off features you may not use very often in the Ring app.
Check your RSSI. If you don't have a very strong wifi connection, your video doorbell may draw more power when communicating with your network.
Certain weather conditions might cause the battery to drain faster than normal.
We invite you to reach out to our community if any additional information is needed regarding your question. The Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another by sharing their feedback and experiences with each other.
Sincerely,
Melissa from Ring
