We understand the importance of having events recorded on your Ring Video Doorbell 4 device. Being able to save, download, and review footage captured by your Ring Video Doorbell 4 is a valuable feature of the Ring Protect Plan. We can definitely provide you with more information regarding the concern mentioned in your review.

It sounds like there is some confusion surrounding the optional Ring Protect Plan. The Ring Protect Plan is an optional subscription that gives you access to paid features for Ring devices such as video doorbells, cameras, and alarms. With a Ring Protect Plan, you can save, review, and share video recordings from your Ring devices to your Ring account.

Whenever you register a new device on your Ring app, you automatically start a 30-day Ring Protect Trial4 (unless you’re already a subscriber at the same location as the new device). With this trial, you can try all Ring Protect plan features available for your device, including 10% off select Ring products on Ring.com (USA, Canada, UK, EU, Australia, or New Zealand) and Amazon.com (US only).

During the Ring Protect trial period, you get video recording for your cameras and doorbells and professional monitoring for Ring Alarm. Video recordings are stored for the duration of your trial, unless you subscribe to the Ring Protect Plan.

Without a Ring Protect Plan, you can still view real-time video from Ring doorbells and cameras and answer doorbell notifications when they happen, but you don’t get video recordings of those events.

We understand the importance of having a solid charge on your Ring Video Doorbell 4 so that you are able to have a longer time between charge cycles. Having longevity in a battery-powered security device, such as the Ring Video Doorbell, is crucial when it comes to monitoring your home, especially if you are away for long periods of time.

I would be happy to address your concerns regarding the issues that you are experiencing with the need to charge the battery when the device is hardwired. If you've hardwired your battery-operated Ring Video Doorbell, your Quick Release Battery Pack may occasionally need to be recharged.

Unlike a hardwired Ring Doorbell (e.g. Ring Doorbell Pro), a battery-operated doorbell does not use the electricity generated by the hardwiring to power its regular operations. Instead, it uses the provided rechargeable battery to detect motion and generate a Live View. The charge from the hardwiring supplies a trickle-charge to the battery. Depending on what functions the doorbell is performing, the battery may drain faster than the hardwiring charge can keep up with.

Since the amount of power used is dependent on your settings and the functions your doorbell is performing, here are a few tips to maximize battery life:

Keep the amount of time you're in Live View to a minimum.
Adjust your Motion Settings to minimize the number of false positive alerts.
Turn off features you may not use very often in the Ring app.
Check your RSSI. If you don't have a very strong wifi connection, your video doorbell may draw more power when communicating with your network.
Certain weather conditions might cause the battery to drain faster than normal.
