This thing is awesome. It records and saves anything that happens on the porch, and you can talk to whoever is on the porch. If you already have a doorbell, it is really easy to setup and it comes with all the tools you need(except for a drill, of course).

This ring doorbell works great. I just wish you didn't have to pay for the recording feature after the 30day trial period. It was every easy to install but the sync process took some to do.

we bought this video doorbell bc we do not have a peephole on our door. we had heard about people posing as a salesman or rep for a company (such as AT&T, or cable services, or other service techs) and then forcing their way into your house. this gives us more security knowing who is at the door. and we pay for the video recordings to see who has rang the bell while we weren't home. one thing, think the sensitivity is a bit high b/c we get an alert even when cars are driving by on the street. but its not that bothersome so we can deal with that...

Ties right in to the Ring alarm system. 720p video quality is decent. The field of vision is wider than the newer generations, but the quality is diminished. The sensitivity is too high for me with the amount of car traffic on my street. The newer generations have a better setting process for this. If you plan to get or already have the Ring alarm, just buy one of the newer model doorbells. This is probably better as a stand-alone unit. I still think it is a good product.

Our 1st Ring (Hubby wants more now!) Easy to set up & works great. We hardwired it to old doorbell wires. Still getting the hang of motion range bc we live on a busy street & get notifications every time a car drives by -but that's more of a user issue than a product issue so we'll figure it out. Love that everyone in the house can have & use the app. Because there's so many newer models (this is the basic one) I didn't know what to expect but it's great! Very happy with purchase.

I wouldn’t pay more than $100.00 for it. It’s cool, but not $179 cool. I got it on sale for 99.00. My only complaint is that the battery drains a bit fast. No way it would last 6 months without a charge. More like 2 months.

The product is great "IF" your house isn't facing the east and you don't plan to use the motion detector. Remember - sun rises in the east. If you place this where the sun is hitting it and cars passing by, you will get a lot of notifications for motion detection. Pros - the concept is great specially if you sign up to their $30 annual cloud membership where it saves all the videos. If their motion detection is working fine, this would have been a 5 star. I understand that previous versions didn't have motion detection. It was recently added so they need to do better. Works great if your house is facing the north or south (against the sunrise/set). Cons: Big Con - when you turn on the motion detection, it suggests that you watch the video of the company owner promoting the product. The video will tell you how you can adjust the motion detection coverage so it doesn't get moving cars, tree branches, etc. I played around with it to the shortest distance 5ft and then the least amount of notifications. According to the inventor, it should only track heat within 5 feet of the house (least coverage setting). ALAS! I get the same amount of notifications, if not more from light bouncing off the gadget. So I went to their website and told them about the unwarranted motion detection. Here is what the guy told me - Set it to the maximum amount of coverage - like 30 feet and then to the maximum amount of notifications. I said "are you listening to my complaint? why would I want to have a wider coverage and more notifications?" The Million Dollar Answer - "Well the product will actually do the opposite. If you set it to a higher coverage, it will give you less notifications. The product actually will do the opposite!" To everyone reading this, have you ever bought a product where you have to do the opposite of the instructions to get the product to work?" I'm sure they will deny this if they read this but this really happened. Another Con - they give you tools but the screws are the cheapest kind like the ones that screw plastic toys. You can actually break them with your fingers. I had two of them break just by tightening the screw. I made the mistake of pre-drilling only to have the screws break. I had to move it out of those holes since they're useless with half the screw covering two of the holes. I moved them and bought new screws from Home Depot. Final review to make it a 5 star product a. Do not use the motion detector b. If you plan to use the motion detector, make sure your door is facing North or South. c. Do not use the supplied screws. Buy your own at Home Depot or Lowes . Thanks for reading

I was a little worried about the value of this, but as soon as we hooked it up we were sold! I now know when anyone comes through the yard or places items on the porch. The only think it is missing is to turn it on when I just want to see if something is going on outside.

Who doesn’t want to see who is at your door without getting up, I mean you could creep out your upstairs window and hope they don’t see you or you can get the ring doorbell, and as an added bonus see what’s going on when you aren’t home, yes please!

I love this doorbell. So easy to install less then 10 minutes and worked right way with no problems. Just wish you are able to watch live feed. Also there is a subscription you will need to buy. But so worth it.

Easy to set up. Customer service is helpful and available without being put on hold. Recording options much cheaper than nest. Camera resolution leaves a little to be desired. Battery can drain if you use live camera too much or have motion alert on too far. This occurs even if it is hard wired. But it does what it advertises. It's very neat to be able to answer your door at work. It's kind of like face time for your font door.

Before I give my review I want to say that I returned this and upgraded to the Ring Doorbell Pro and I'm very happy with it. The Ring doorbell (original Ring) was easy to install. However, my advice is to go and purchase a mortar drill bit instead of using the one it came with. Connecting to my network was seamless, so I had no problems getting it set up. However, the entrance to my front door is covered and shaded. Therefore, it is like taking a photo or video with all of the light in the background even though my house faces north. This made it impossible for the motion sensor to work during the day because it could not see anything past my porch. I was not impressed with video quality, but upgrading to the Ring Doorbell Pro solved that. I didn't feel like the doorbell worked for my situation because the camera would not properly adjust the contrast To allow the motion sensor to work properly. The doorbell function worked great. So, if the doorbell video is what you want to use it for, then I recommend it. The motion function just did not work for me because of the setup of my front porch. Lastly, once installed, you need to check your WiFi signal at the doorbell. Brick will all but block your WiFi signal. This will reduce response time. A BIG PLUS for Ring was that when I called Ring to let them know my issue they sent me a Chime Pro, which is a WiFi signal extender. Customer service was great and I'm glad I called. Any issues I had were solved by upgrading to the Ring Pro. But the original Ring Doorbell can be perfect in the right setup.

The concept is brilliant. The connectivity and reliability, not so much. I've adjusted sensitivity setting to the nines and it still only detects people about 2/3's of the time at best. The audio at the beginning of videos is always missing as well. The fact that it is totally internet based is a flaw. To have sd card as a backup would be great. The one time a thief rang my doorbell to see if I was home (right before he robbed my neighbor's house) it didn't record or even tell me someone was at the door. Only my actual doorbell rang.

I love being able to see from my bedroom on second floor who is at the door. Only drawback is you have to purchase a bell -it's not included. So if you don't have a phone near by, you won't know someone is at the door.
