I tested 3 cameras - Ring, Nest, and Circle. And ugh, the Ring was the worst. The picture quality sucked, the field of vision sucked. The only thing worthwhile was the Ring neighborhood security app, but you can actually get an account on that without having a Ring. (I would recommend doing that if you're concerned about activity in your neighborhood.) There ARE newer Rings than the one I bought, so maybe they are better. This one wasn't great, though.

The battery dies every two day even on low settings to preserve the battery life.

I am planning on purchasing a new one We have not had success it getting our original one to function--but I still have high hopes.

The Old Gen doorbell has a super bubble effect and is 720p! Save you money and go with the Doorbell 2! Other then that LOVE RING!!

It works when it wants too. And it’s super annoying that takes a while to load up the cameras view.

Incredibly difficult for ME to connect the two pieces together. Actually, I still haven't connected them, which means that I have no video, nor can I talk.

Unable to charge the battery after few months of use. Had to throw away.

The unit requires taking down to recharge. Does not work without wiring to hard line door bell.

No problem installing hard-wired doorbell. free recording expires and you have to subscribe for video recording.

Internet connection is very weak. The first generation used to be faster. I upgraded to this one and it is very slow

It was a very slow camera and mostly missed everything that went by it. I have great internet so definitely device.

Cheap and plastic I have to take it down and reacharge it every other day.

Went off whenever a car drove by no matter what setting it was on. Constantly malfunctioned and would delay notification when someone actually rang the doorbell. Ended up just removing it but was too late to return it to BestBuy per their policy. Now it just sits in a box in my garage. Do not waste your money on this.

The Ring doorbell has a lot going for it. It does work, just not as well as I would like. The ability to answer your door remotely works maybe 10-20% of the time. The app is very slow to load and connect after you're notified that the doorbell button has been pressed. I've had the product for over a year and I've only been able to remotely answer the door only once out of the 10 plus times I've tried to remotely answer the door. My wifi network isn't the issue. I've even given the Ring it's own AC router as a test. It still was slow to connect, even when I was in the house and on the same network with no other active devices. That being said the cloud recording works well. You can review the footage after the fact and it does look pretty good. The motion detection is overly sensitive and difficult to adjust. Since there is no penalty for recording every time a truck goes by this is an annoyance in my case. If we lived on a busier street it might be a deal breaker. We did have a small problem with how the unit was made. The decorative cap that covers the button fell off. I called Ring and they sent me a replacement door bell without much hassle, so they do backup their product. The fee for cloud recording is a bargain compared to fees charged by other home security systems. Many of the features are outstanding. The fact that it works with a legacy doorbell and charges from the transformer is a great design feature. The battery backup in the device will allow it to work during a power failure, but you will need to have your router on a UPS. We are on a fiber optic network so there's a good chance that the system will continue to record even during a power failure. There are too many positives to list here and they have been pretty much covered by other reviews. I would recommend this product to a friend but I'd tell them not to expect to be able to answer the doorbell in real time every time it rings.
