No Need for Monthly Fees from other companies
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the greatest security product I could have imagined. Not only does it capture video when the doorbell is rung, it can sense motion and captures video of movement in your yard and sends it to your phone immediately. No monthly fees needed, is easy to install and works great starting at $99. I had this up and running in less than an hour. Sweet!

Not so smart doorbell
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Disappointed. Since Christmas, I’ve bought and installed 2 Ring doorbells. One for me and one for my 80 yo Mom. My general impression is that it’s a very expensive doorbell and mostly, an ineffective security device. In fact, it’s not a security device at all, and I wouldn’t recommend relying on it for that purpose. The good thing about Ring doorbell is that it’s very easy to install and you really don’t need to spend almost $100 to have a professional install it. The original Ring and the Ring 2 can both be used wireless, which is good for those who don’t already have a doorbell or whose wiring is no longer working like mine was. I had tried another wireless doorbell, but it took expensive batteries and an adapter plugged in the house and it used the batteries very quickly. The Ring is rechargeable, so no extra expensive batteries are required. Mine is about 67% after almost a month, so it will last about 2 months before I have to recharge it. In the case of my Mom’s house where she had wiring for an existing doorbell. I had to keep “fiddling” with the Ring to get it to stay hardwired. When it wasn’t hardwired and went to battery, it burned battery really fast. In a week, it was almost down to 10% or less. Then, I fiddled with it and, for the last week or so it’s stayed hardwired. But, it’s charging really slowly while being hardwired. I did some research about the hardwired issue and apparently many people have issues keeping this thing hardwired. My Sister had the same issues when her Ring was first installed (and she had paid a professional installer to install hers). As for the “security” features, they are mostly missing. It takes time for the Ring to start recording after it detects motion. I have found that people with open porches where people have to climb steps to approach the door have the best results because the person is detected while they are walking up the steps and the recording has time to start. My doorbell and front stoop are in an alcove, with no real steps to climb and you have to turn a corner of sorts to come to the door. When I get an alert and review the recording, there’s no one there. The person has delivered the package and gone to their truck. I never see them…. Not even the back of them The ONLY time I actually got a video of anyone, the Amazon Prime delivery person had stopped to take a photo of the package at the door. (Not sure what that would prove, since he could then just pick up and remove the package, but I digress.) Even when someone is recorded in the video, it’s hard to make out their features. In bright sunlight, they may appear washed out. Oh, and it's hard to not get false motion alerts. You can change the settings, but you will probably still get an alert that's just a car going by on the streets. Or, in my case, motion detected because the wind is blowing the trees or the sun is casting a shadow that changes when the sunlight changes. So, you can NOT rely on this as any sort of security camera… I am torn on whether I’d buy this again or recommend it to a friend. Probably not…it’s just an expensive doorbell.

The Best Doorbell on the Market
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have been using this doorbell for over 6 months. I really love it and I am sure you would too. I also have the Ring Chime, it works very well and easy to install once you have your Ring doorbell set up. Their support team is excellence. You have to try it. Thank You Ring.

Great concept that doesn't work
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.BB sold that product like it was a stand alone, no worries, great security product....NOT! Our Ring is about 60 ft from the local street and no matter what motion setting we have it on it constantly is activated by vehicles driving by at all hours of the day. Whats worse is that when a person approaches the door the Ring doesn't even record them until they have already unlocked the door and entered the house. A few times it fails to record anyone at the door and one time it failed to notify us when the the doorbell was pushed. If someone is stealing packages at my front door I wouldn't even expect Ring to capture anything. Recording to the cloud is so late it's ridiculous. Ohh, and if this thing runs out of battery then you have to remove from wall, charge it for up to 10 hours (what if someone comes to your door), reattach to wall, and then possibly reconnect to your wifi. We've been in touch with Ring Support numerous times and they initially thought our Ring was bad, but later said it was operating correctly and that they are constantly updating their motion algorithm and to just keep adjusting the motion detection. Keep with a standard doorbell until something better comes to market.

Expensive and deceptive
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just returned on that was a gift. Had my eye on these for a while. The whole concept intrigued me and seemed like a great idea. I installed it, and it took multiple attempts to get the unit running through the app process. Each time you try to link it with the app on your phone, it must be removed form the wall so you can press the button on the back. Got it working for a few hours any way, and then it stopped sending alerts and video. After a few more attempts, I contacted the company who told me I have to purchase a wifi extender. I have multiple wifi devices in my home and no issues whatsoever with connection. Only the ring has issues. I break down any way, and go and purchase an extender. Mind you, the ring is already expensive at $200, now add at least $40 more for an extender and that is a bottom of the line one!! I get everything installed and then it stops ringing my home bell now!! I test the home bell and it's wiring and all is fine. (i am an electrician) I try the unit multiple times again and it has stopped functioning all together. Let me remind you that every time you have to link this unit, it must be removed from the mounting base on the wall. The unit comes with proprietary security screws and a screwdriver for them. They are located on the bottom of the unit at the rear side, which means good luck getting under there with your hand directly up against the wall trying to turn these screws. After so many attempts, I decided it wasn't worth the trouble or the cost. Only problem is that after having to do this so many times, one of the screws stripped!! Took a lot of effort and time to finally remove it so that I could return it. Let me add another issue. For cloud storage, you must pay $3 a month or $30 a year. Not a lot of money in and of itself, but add that into the cost of the unit and an extender and this becomes one VERY expensive door bell. No where on the package does it indicate that this requires almost a direct internet connection. I don't know many people that have their routers located within 10 feet of the front door.

Not Happy - Did not perform well at all
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all, the picture that you get back from the camera is NOT what the pictures or video show on line or in the documentation. It is an extreme fish-eye view and not a very good picture. The first night, I tested the battery life . . . it was dead in the morning and needed to be recharged. So, if you are going to purchase this, count on connecting it to your existing doorbell power, otherwise, you will have to charge this thing daily. Lastly, the unit kept losing its connection to the wifi network. Once this happens, you have to go through the entire setup process again!! Terrible design. Oh, one other disappointment is that the documentation mentions several times that you can access the video "at any time" that is NOT true. In order to see the video from the camera, you have to trigger it with either motion or pushing the ringer button. So, don't count on using this for a surveillance camera. If you heard something at your door for instance, you can't just load up the iOS app and see whats out there. It has to be triggered! Like others have said, the idea and concept is great! Execution needs much work. Hope this helps someone decide.

Awesome!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love my Ring doorbell! It's cool to be able to see people coming and going, and also to be able to communicate directly with people at the door whether I'm home or not. Have saved a couple packages from getting rained on all day by being bale to flag the FedEx/UPS driver and ask them to put them in my garage (after opening the garage door for them remotely, of course) :)

Wanted to like it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I installed this very easily and worked great for a couple of days. It started acting strange. Started reporting as battery power sources even though it was hard wired to the existing door bell. Then it started going back and forth reporting battery and hard wired. The battery would charge a little then drain way low. It would keep doing this. I tried going through ring support and answers in depth questions about what was going on. Then after over a week of no response, I had to email again to ask what the next step was. They then sent me the same exact questions I had already answered. This is when I uninstalled it and returned it to Best Buy. Then no Best Buy has that version anymore that I got on sale. The only one was the pro and 2 which was $100 to $150 more. So I got the refund and reinstalled my plain button door bell.

Great product! Great Ring Customer Service!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had our Ring Pro/Chime door bell installed by a Geek Squad technician. He went over all the features and had me practice while at the front door so it was recorded by the Door bell camera for quick reference. This helped us to make a couple of changes to customize it for our needs. We feel so secure knowing who is at our door from anywhere, whether home or away. Particularly helpful when expecting packages! We did experience a black screen with recorded videos. Ring Customer Service walked me through to get it working. The technician asked if we had problems with our router as a possibility that caused the black screen. We have had some TV reception/Internet issues where we had to reset the 5 year old router. We got a new router from our Internet Service and no more problems!

Beats the competition but...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very happy with Ring. Previously I used Skybell. A distinctly miserable experience though I hear they have improved. I note they have dropped their $50 price and are now at $149. The Ring is faster syncing video than Skybell, but often you will miss the person because the video and audio can still be slow to sync or not sync at all. Skybell was far worse. In Skybell's favor you could watch live video on demand. The wide Angie lens on Ring is a good thing and the video history is Good in terms of reviewing who has been at door. That said August is coming out with their version that will also allow me to remote unlock at my option. They are also coming out with a remotely programmable keypad and the new lock will be Apple HomeKit certified. I'll be moving Ring to another door soon and hope August gets it 100% right. Even at $50 less, I can't recommend Skybell. Ring Is recommended.

Easy To Set Up And Great Doorbell, But...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.this was easy to set up right our of the box. the android version of the app is awesome. as a doorbell this thing is pretty rad, but as a motion sensor camera it lacks a lot to be desired. this device was triggering neither alerts nor recordings when people walked up to our house. the motion detector doesn't detect anyone til they're at the door! i spent (wasted) forty minutes online with RIng's rude customer service and was told several times that i need to buy the more expensive Ring Pro. i was also informed that because of the steps, this thing is "seeing over people's heads" and that i need to macgyver the top of the unit out away from the wall with washers to change it's angle. that sounds attractive, right? they viewed one of my videos and would not answer direct questions i asked, just repeating that i should buy the more expensive Pro or angle this one out with washers. i'm a wage slave and this thing represents too many hours of my life to have it not work as it should, and to be treated like this by customer service! that being said, the video is pretty clear, the doorbell and ability to talk to whoever is at the door from wherever you are is pretty cool. if you have a street level door and a level lawn (isn't that ridiculous?) the motion detector will work fine, too, so i'd still recommend this to a friend. cheers.

It's GREAT
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Ring doorbell is a great tool. It was easy to install and works just like advertised. There is a 30 day free trial of the cloud recording service, which I am not sure is worth the cost. The motion detector feature works very well and is adjustable.

A Great Idea But Not Ready For Prime Time
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well I'm waiting for my 4th Ring Doorbell to arrive. The first one did not record soon enough as the people were already at my door before it would start recording. I'd see the mail man walking away but not see him coming up to the porch. The second replacement was no better. I had to reset my router and the third unit would not pair with my router and eventually stopped working altogether. The battery was fully charged. If your like most people you lock your phone. When someone rings the doorbell if there is ANY congestion on the internet (from your house, to their servers, to your phone especially if your not at home on your own wi-fi) it will cause latency in receiving the ring on your phone. Add that to the time it takes to get your phone out of your pocket and un-locked and your visitor is about to walk away. If it is a drop off delivery you already missed the delivery man. I also found an inherent problem with the door bell mounting base. If you want to hard wire the base (Using the Low A.C. voltage from your current doorbell so you don't have to always charge the batteries, BE SURE to put a star washer under each terminal screw where you hook up the doorbell wires! The small wires usually found in home doorbell systems have a tendency to wrap tightly around the base of the screw and will NOT make contact with the pad under the screw head. Don't know why they wouldn't have included washers under the terminal screws in the first place. Had to break out the DVM and trouble shoot to figure out why it would not show up as hardwired. Tech support people are nice enough but yikes...when you call it's like talking to AT&T DSL back in the year 2003! "Is there a light on your modem? Is your modem plugged in? Have you rebooted your modem?" Really???? Not everybody is an appliance operator. Some of us know electronics. So I wait for number 4. IF they ever get the record timing issue worked out I could give it a 4 1/2 stars.

Decent but not good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like many other reviewers I found the ring doorbell to be a great idea that's not executed very well. Setup was straightforward. Video quality suffers quite badly if your wireless router is more than about 15ft away for the doorbell location. The motion detection feature kinda works but is a blunt instrument. The sensitivity settings don't have much effect. Sorry to say, I returned it to the store.

Works Great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Ring doorbell is fantastic, it works exactly as stated and helps us know who has been at our door. The video quality is good and the wide angle lens captures the entire front porch. Setup was extremely easy and was complete in 20 min. The ring doorbell also has on demand video now that allows you to check the video feed in real time. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for extra security and convenience.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installation took some time, but once connected the ring.com doorbell is great to keep an eye on the front door when packages arrive or someone is ringing the doorbell. Awesome Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.we've been using this doorbell and its connected app for about a month and the app works flawlessly. the doorbell picks up motion and sends notifications to our iphones. at that point we can accept or deny and the motion can be recorded and saved to the cloud for future viewing. the doorbell function and intercom also work great. voice clarify is awesome from the doorbell side and phone. definitely would recommend.

Far From Perfect
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the concept, but it falls short. The camera is decent, but if you want to use the motion function, you will be disappointed. The motion function is very flaky to say the least. Sometimes it works well, too well, and picks up everything on the street. Sometimes it will not pick up any motion, even when your standing in front of it. I have contacted support and reset the unit and played with the motion settings, but it still has issues. Bottom line is that if you just want to see who is at the door after the doorbell rings and maybe even speak to them, it works fine. If you want to be notified and/or record on motion, then move on to something else.
