Very happy with the product. Customer service is fast and knowledgeable. A strong wireless signal at the door is a must or it will not work. I had to raise my router to a higher shelf to get the signal I needed at the door where installed.

Install was easy. Setup was easy. Overall the video and audio are great. $30 a year to save videos to the cloud. This is a fair price. My only complaint is the camera takes a little too long start recording when it detects motion. If someone comes up and knocks and leaves a package, it turns on as they are walking away. I have the range for motion turned up all the way.

    Great Doorbell Tech

I recently replaced our old doorbell with the Ring product and so far it has been incredible. The ability to interact with someone at the door remotely has been awesome--a neighbor needing something, delivery that I would otherwise have missed, etc. The tech support has been great as well--very responsive and helpful.

The install was easy but performance was disappointing. The live video was choppy/distorted most of the time, but the recordings were clear. When i did get the alert on my mobile it was too late to see what had triggered it. I would watch the recordings and all i would see was a car driving by my house: no people, only cars. The camera didn't even catch the mail-person delivering my mail (mailbox is 8 feet from camera) but i probably can tell you all of the cars that drive by my house approximately 40 feet from the doorbell. I was able to catch UPS delivering but that was probably because his truck triggered the recording. I did not realize how many cars passed by my house before this cam. Even trying different settings within the software failed to produce good results. I did not like the idea of cloud storage either. It should be ONVIF compliant so it can be added to an existing surveillance recording system since it is already on my network, or be able to point it to a NAS. The camera would benefit from being able to tilt, or swivel, to accommodate various doorbell position scenarios. The phone app seemed to work well (Android version). I like the idea of a video doorbell however after reading reviews of other similar products it appears the issues i experienced with Ring is common with them as well.

    Great + Awful ÷ 2 = Average

When Ring works correctly, it is great; however, it is entirely likely that the doorbell will be inconsistent or just stop communicating. In my case, mounting the doorbell took two guys with handyman experience two days of attemptingt to mount the doorbell before they gave up and I did it myself. Then after about two weeks, the doorbell just stopped recording (during which time someone walked out of my house with a bicycle--and not having a video as proof of who did it was a problem). Customer Service was helpful and quickly agreed to overnight a replacement doorbell to me, but it took the courier five days to get it to me. The fact that the "doorbell" doesn't come with something that actual rings inside the house cost the product one star in this review. Who ever heard of a doorbell that doesn't ring if you buy only the package labeled "doorbell?" It is counterintuitive to have to then purchase a chime to hear the doorbell. Overall, i would recommend waiting for another device to be developed by someone else--or go ahead and buy the separate Chime with the doorbell purchase.

I’ve had this ring doorbell for the past 4 years now, and it’s been great! It captures pretty much what is needed. The only problems I seem to have is when the temperature changes, the battery runs out even tho it is hard wired. Which is horrible because you cannot see live views. I recently saw a neighbors ring doorbell and now I’m looking to upgrade. The only reason why is because of random recent activity when I’m home alone, the camera is giving me a pixelated view. Overall, I couldn’t beat the price on black Friday with a free echo dot! They work wonders! You don’t need the ring chime if you have any echo devices, it will announce when someone as at your door or there is motion.

    1) motion detection is sending false alarms, way too many for a $200.00 product. 2)voice is not that clear even when i have very good wifi signal at the door. 3) video is clear 4) but the most disappointing feature is that u can not save the video to a memory card computer or cloud of ur choice, Ring co. wants you to buy the service of the cloud recording which is $3 a month or $30 a year. 5)you have to threat this device as a notification device not as a security system one. for $200 to $400 u could get a decent security system with 4 to 8 cameras with audio and video, plus recording is free and u could view live on their apps.

I am sorry to hear about your poor Ring experience. At this point, I would like to connect with you directly so that I can personally investigate the motion detection and poor sound quality that you are experiencing. Great Idea - Average Performance

I purchased two Ring doorbell units for great prices at Best Buy (Black Friday 2016). The main reason I bought the Ring was because they are battery powered. One of my doors has a doorbell with wiring that didn't work, and the other door had no existing hardwired doorbell. I installed both doorbells in December, 2016, after carefully following the instructions. The guidance and installation were really quite easy, and the app and videos were very helpful. Everything you need for installation is included in the box. I charged both units per instructed and was excited about the 6-12 advertised battery life. As of today (March, 2017), I have had to charge each doorbell unit 2-3 times. I don't live in a high traffic area, I changed the settings to minimal alerts, and set my zones to small range of detection. I am very disappointed about the poor battery life as this was the very reason I bought this brand of video doorbell. I've tried everything I can find to do to minimize battery consumption, but nothing seems to work. I'm not quite sure what to do because I really like the product, and I may be past my return date to Best Buy. Please be aware of this as you research your purchase and keep an eye on battery life. One other note that I didn't know until I purchased the Ring, they are not compatible with the Apple Home app...another let-down. I will not be recommending Ring to anyone. Great concept, but poor performance.

Although we have outside cameras, they are now set up to notify us if someone is around. This product sends us a chime whenever someone comes to the door or rings the bell. It also allows us to talk to them as if it's an intercom. We may be out of town talking to them but they have no way of knowing. We can see and hear them but they can only hear us. The only improvement I would suggest is that the camera have less of a fish eye, which distorts things somewhat.

The ring installation manual is incomplete at best: MAC ID filtering cannot be enabled on the router. Tech support is limited to the user forum. When I tried to contact tech support via the manufacturer's website, tech support contacted me 4 days later - unacceptable. When someone presses the doorbell, sometimes the video works, sometimes it is delayed, sometimes it is blacked out - I ran a ping test to confirm my Internet speed at the time of the failure was 65/35 Mbps using an Airport Extreme. Motion sensitivity settings are wildly inaccurate. My settting is 5', yet cars driving by 25-50' away trigger the motion sensor. Battery was dead within 1-week. Perhaps the wired version is better but what is the point of having a wifi doorbell?

A glorified doorbell - NOT a security camera!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Have worked with support and tried all the motion settings, and no matter what I get cars driving by all hours of the day even though my front door is 25 feet off the street. Logic would have it that it wouldn't pick up a car, but the product actually looks for HEAT SIGNATURES to trigger motion detection and apparently car engines are much warmer then people. Couldn't their R&D have done more work on this product and figured out the temperature difference between a person and a car?!?! I guess not. Support is blaming my wifi network, an Apple Airport router (latest gen), which has perfect signal throughout my entire home and is probably only located about 15-20 feet from the doorbell itself (granted the router is inside and the doorbell is out). In addition to that, I guess my mailman has turbo legs because if I'm lucky I see him walking away from my property even though the doorbell is right next to the mailbox. IT'S NEVER caught him putting the mail in. So chances are, if someone was stealing my mail I would see their back side walking off my property with my mail, but wouldn't be able to get a usable picture of their face for the police. Lastly, I realize I'm on battery because my house doesn't have a hard wired doorbell, but the fact that I can't go back and turn the camera on to check on my front yard for a few seconds is VERY annoying. I'm willing to charge the battery more often as a trade off for being able to activate the camera ad-hoc. Overall, this works great as a VIDEO DOORBELL, when someone walks up and pushes the button, it rings on the chime inside my house and on my smartphone. I can talk to them. But if I miss the call for some reason you can NOT... I don't think the product is worth the money if you need security on the front of your house look elsewhere. On the other hand, coincidentally, I have not had a single solicitor since I installed this.. LOL

Love my Ring so much I recommended it to friends. Sadly after 2 years of owning it doesnt stay hardwired. I have to constantly charge it even though nothing changed with the wiring. My friend who bought one on my recommendation wasnt so lucky. His stopped recognizing the hard wiring after just months of use. Also maybe 25% of the time when I click on live view it wont load. Just opens to a black screen and nothing will help. Not even resetting the app. Wifi signal is strong, very fast, and not far from the doorbell. I do love it when it works, though. I'd upgrade for a newer version but not if the bugs are still there!

    Get a Nest Supported device!

I have now owned a Ring for over a year. It has been tough. I have to charge the battery very often and have constant Wifi issues. I even bought the Extender which did near to nothing. I guess I need 100mb or more wifi signal to get a decent image. the delay is horrible on it. Most of the time I get the back of people walking away. I would suggest getting a nest supported device. My nest cameras work dramatically better and do not suffer from all the above issues. One good thing i have to say about ring is the cost of the monthly service. It's way cheaper than Nest. If you decide on a ring device get it hard wired and save yourself from charging the battery. I just hope you have a better wifi connection than I.... I wish i paid $99... then I would n't expect as much. Get while it's cheap and maybe use it for a tree house.

Useless at night if it faces the street.

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Not useful at night if it faces the street and cars drive by unless you don’t need sleep. I installed the Ring Video doorbell yesterday at my front door. I live in a rural area next to a city and our area has had a lot of thefts and burglaries during both day and night. I wanted something that would let me know if someone was moving around at my front door area when we are gone and especially at night when we are sleeping. I thought this device was the solution but it appears I am wrong. I hardwired the device to the existing doorbell wires so the location is set. Install was simple and setup painless. I have a strong signal at my front door so upload/download works fine. We tested the doorbell and motion functions and they mostly work as advertised. At first it would not pick me up when I walked to the front door even if I waited 10 minutes from the first activation. Changed it to “Frequent” and it activated every time. I set the motion distance a little over the 15 foot line. Well last night the motion sensor went off every time a car drove by. The road is about 100 feet from my door and the cars drive by at 50 to 60 mph. Every 10 to 20 minutes it went off and at 3 am when our local Indian Casino had shift change, it sounded like a wind chime in the wind. My choices were to shut off the motion sensor alerts or notifications on my phone. I didn’t want to spend the time to figure out how to disable it so I shut my phone off. Did research this morning and am not happy that I can’t fix this issue. The motion sensor is based on infrared and heat. It’s picking up the heat from the cars even though they are well outside the range of the motion sensor. The suggestion on their website is to lessen the frequency of alerts or remount in a direction not facing the street. So if a car drives by and a bad guy decides to break in after, I get no notification. Defeats the purpose. If you want a device that records video and sound when the doorbell is pushed or someone comes within range of the motion sensor, do your homework and buy another brand.

I love having the additional security of the Ring at my front door. I get notifications on my phone and smart watch whenever someone triggers the motion sensor or rings the bell. Since I have my sensor adjusted low, I do not receive false alarms but actual activity at my door. Initially the system was a little flaky but once I installed an inexpensive WIFI extender, the system has been rock solid. Great Product!

Great packaging with tools to install, great idea, good looking device, yet is too sensitive to wifi signal. I experienced delays of around 10-30 secs when the device was outside my door at about 35 ft from my router. I checked my network speed at the device using my mobile phone logged onto my network: 7-8mbs up and 5mbs down, more than needed according to Ring.com. Video and voice was choppy on most occasions. Device worked great within 5-10 ft of my router. Called support and I was told that the device needed to be within 20ft of the router - regardless of the network speed (????) . Interesting comment. That comment was followed by advice to purchase a network extender. While I am sure that would improve things, I had already dropped $278 on this device plus two Ring chimes. BTW, the delays to the ring chimes was more than on my phone and the chimes rang at different times. ( I had two, one on main floor, one in downstairs) The Ring and the chimes are going back to BB tomorrow. For that amount of cash, this device should work with my network speeds without additional outlays for network extenders.

easy to setup and install, perfect solution

So we had a new door installed a couple of years ago, which was beautiful; it had side lights, and glass on the door itself. The wifey didn't quite like how easily you could see into and out of the house through the glass, so I put a smoked-glass film on the door which prevented anyone from seeing into the house...but it rendered us blind to the outside now too, and the door we ordered didn't come with a peephole. So rather than drilling through our new door and possibly making matters even worse, I read about the Ring and saw all the reviews and even had some friends that had one already. So I purchased the Ring doorbell and took it home, setting aside a few hours to install it. Typically most installation kits come with the screws you need and sometimes an allen key (like for Ikea products), but never have I seen an install kit come with it's own drill bit! That was awesome because I had lost that size drill bit anyway, so you really are provided all the tools, sans the power drill of course. So rather than 2 hours, I was able to install it in 30 minutes, hardwired too. And setting it up was so easy too, downloaded the app, sync'd my phone, and i was able to send invitations to my wife and my mom, who uses her iPad for the door when she's babysitting the kids. Video is clear and the doorbell still works like normal, so it really has been the most perfect solution we could have ever wanted. Cloud storage for $30 a year too, that's chump change for some very important features. I was a little skeptical about having such an expensive doorbell, but the replacement guarantee if it's stolen sold me. I would absolutely recommend this to others...esp with the ability to add other cameras, just hopefully they can add some smaller devices to the mix so they're not so obvious. I'm sure there would still be a replacement contingency, but who wants to deal with that hassle all the time?
