    Not For Me

I was really hoping this would work for me after reading the reviews, but not so. Followed all the instructions that came with the product, and it did work as long as I kept my phone awake. I have a Samsung Note 3. The Ring would not alert me if my phone was asleep. We have an older Samsung 2 and it worked as stated in the instructions. I checked all the setting on both phones and they were identical. Called Ring customer support and they told me a few things to try, but all in all they just told me to keep my phone awake. As anyone with a cell phone knows if I would do that my battery would not last very long at all. Sorry to say this product is going back today as it did not meet my expectations.

Wifi needs to be 5-10 feet away

I like the Ring for the motion detection and it alerts my phone. The downside is you need it close to your router or else you need the ring Wifi extender (even this doesn’t always work 24/7). The ring doesn’t capture me right in front of it if it is blocked by metal or thick material. But it will detect motion 5-10 feet away! Doesn’t make sense. Customer service is good if you get a good rep. I had to return the ring and buy a second one because the rep said it was a bad one. He should have transferred me to the level 2 tech since I had to change my firewall settings from the recommendation of a second rep. After the firewall change, ring worked and it was able to connect to Wifi. After 2 months of ring, dismounting it and charging it every week became a repeatitive thing. It’s not conspicuous since the blue light turns on at night when you turn on live stream. Why would it turn on? When it records motion, I don’t see the blue light. I think a suspicious person noticed it at night and told his buddy. I have it hidden and when they saw the light, the video shows him stopping and looking at it at night and telling his buddy, “did you see that...”. Maybe ring needs to fix this feature so the blue light only turns on if it’s pressed, not on live stream. I also prefer it to record longer and not 30 seconds on motion or 10 minutes on live stream. The picture is not always clear and night time it’s hard to see.

I brought the Ring video/doorbell on July 4th. It was so easy to install, I did it by myself, it only took me 30 minutes. So far I love this door bell, It gives me accurate and excellent view on whose at my front door and also a good view on my property. Night vision is good as well. I also purchase 2 chimes with it and I love it. The chimes is a must buy with the doorbell. It was worth every penny.

    Unreliable & Intermittent

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We're on our 2nd Ring video doorbell. It picks up every little motion in the street 20' from our door (no matter the settings), but has only managed to capture a few solicitors actually coming to our door. And now, the doorbell only works occasionally (because apparently the doorbell must be charged over 40% for it to work "all the time"). Our friends ended up KNOCKING on our door last night to let us know they arrived. We are having to charge our doorbell every 3 weeks. We do not want to hardwire it into our existing doorbell, but now we're being told that is our "best option". Their "service department" has told us our WiFi connection is very good, so that isn't a problem. Seriously?????? This isn't security, it is a joke and a useless product. AND...if you leave a negative comment on their facebook page, they delete it. They only allow positive feedback. Unbelievable. This was a waste of money and a horrible disappointment.

      Hi CobaltSerenity,

I'm sorry to hear about your poor Ring experience, but I would like to connect with you today to address / resolve the issues you are experiencing with your Ring. The motion detector does require a bit of maneuvering to find the right spot, however we can assist you with honing those settings to make sure you only receive the alerts that matter to you. Also, battery life is contingent on usage so the volume of alerts you receive per day will affect it but we can provide optimal settings to conserve your battery. For any negative comments posted on Facebook, we personally reach out to those customers through direct messages to assist them in resolving any issues they may come across because we don't feel Facebook is the best place to troubleshoot as we want to give our undivided attention on a more personal basis to these customers in need of assistance. Please reach me at [email protected] today so that I can turn this experience around for you.

      Thank you,

I love the Ring Doorbel! Ring offers having a technician come out and install the doorbell for a small fee. I like that you can use the live view to look out in the event you hear something but the motion isn't set off. Great purchase if your're looking for advanced home protection.

You may need to go into your phone's settings & turn on notifications. On my iPhone I went to 'Settings, Notifications, scroll down to Ring, turn on 'Allow Notifications', make sure all choices are activated, & the "Alert Style When Unlocked" is set to "Alerts". Once I did this it works flawlessly!

Purchased approx two weeks ago. Saw ads on tv and checked out manufacturer website. The original device stopped working less than a week after installing it. Had problems s with Best Buy responding to my calls in a timely manner. Went direct to Ring hotline, it took me seven days to get issue resolution which ended in getting a new replacement device sent directly from manufacturer. I like product so far. Just hope it holds up. I do feel l more secure and safe when visitors come on my porch. Mail man doesn't seem to like it, and trys to avoid the camera when delivering my mail and packages.

The image quality is great. The installation and set up were quite simple. However lacks ability to engage video unless sensor or door bell are already active. There is also a lag between pressing the doirbell and the the transmission to the door chime. We will return and go back to skybell

Love this doorbell, rings on devices on which app is downloaded. Video can be a bit slow, but for us always on time to see who is there w/o them walking away. Very sensitive, rings when cars/trucks drive by, even when adjusted to just sense the front door and stoop.

    RING 1st Generation

I purchased it because I thought it was a cool idea to use to communicate with delivery drivers for mail or packages. However, I didn't realize a paid subscription was needed. The good thing is Ring captures criminal activities, too, although I don't think that was the original purpose. For that reason, it has grown so much since my 1st generation.

I really like this doorbell! If I can't get to the door quickly, I can still answer before my guest leaves. I like that I can see who is here before I open the door, and with the Cloud can see who has been at my house. Also great customer service!

    Nice...But a ripoff.....FULL DISCLOSURE

Well, I got the RIng 2 Doorbell ($199.99) Chime (29.99) and Chime Pro ($49.99and also 2 ring spotlights wireless with motion detect and cameras.$199.99 EACH) Total spent ... $680.00 plus 6% tax, So far, so good. I was excited in fact, figuring the cost was worth the wireless connections, security and flexibility Then the flaws start showing, ...Doorbell and spotlights run on BATTERIES, that you have to recharge a LOT more than they predict. In fact about every month. They have room in the spotlights for 2 sets of rechargeable battery packs, BUT ONLY GIVE YOU ONE!! (That's when you realize you need to buy 2 more sets of batteries to have those spotlights lasting a bit. The doorbell only has room for one battery pack....so you are recharging or swapping that out about every 6 weeks. If your spotlights/cameras are mounted high (so they can't be easily stolen or tampered with)...you have to drag a ladder out to get them out ...recharge, and go back up to reinstall. Uhhgg. Well, the doorbell works great...but there is a big delay between the motion and yyou finally getting notified that someone is at your door...and by the time you get the phone out, get to the app and take a look....the person is gone! Well heck, I will just look and see if it is someone I know, etc. Very cool...that works, I can see who was there, but nor fast enough to talk to them, etc. Once again the big video lag. Then the BOMBSHELL hits after 30 days...RING notifies you that your "Free Trial" of watching your stored videos is over and now you have to pay for the storage. WHAT???!!! I can't store these on my phone memory, or on my home network hard drive?? Noooooooo. You have to continue to pay the piper. And I was wondering why I am seeing tons of these on Ebay, Craigslist and Garage sale postings. You are stuck with spending over $700 initially, then you become their indentured servant and pay $100 a year, plus keep climbing ladders and taking your doorbell apart and recharging their batteries and reinstalling them! Good God Ring!....let us save our video ourselves if we want to!!! Anybody want to buy my setup ...all brand new for cheap? I feel like I was misled and used by Ring!!

      Hi Spousespy,

I am so sorry to hear about this poor Ring experience. This is not the Ring experience that we intended for you to have. We do notify our customers about the cloud plan on our website (https://shop.ring.com/pages/protect-plans), in your Ring app during the first free 30-day trial of our cloud plan, as well as in your email about this service. I apologize for any miscommunication but we will work on providing even more transparency to our customers as we can in the future. Additionally, our optional Protect Plan allows you to access/download/share past Ring videos. Without this service, you'll still receive real-time video alerts on your smartphone as well as have access to Live View. At this point, I would appreciate the chance to connect with you directly so that I can investigate the issues that you are encountering with delays as well as your short lived battery life. It is imperative to me that you receive the best possible Ring experience and I would like to do whatever I can to ensure that this happens for you. Would you please email me at [email protected]?

I would appreciate your time as well as the chance to improve your Ring experience.

One Year of Testing and Still Works

I bought this during an event which I bought this doorbell for security. Only a few issues, it lags often if they don't have enough data speed for the wifi. Additionally, communicating someone outside would be more difficult to speak to someone outside, even if they ring the doorbell and leave while trying to check. Despite this, it's still a basic feature for security and I would definitely love to see some improvements going on from the company.

I bought it last night and installed this morning. install was a breeze and doorbell worked. Good instructions and tools to get the job done. Pros - Good images from camera, doorbell works. Nice package with everything you need to install. Cons - In the 9 hours since install I have gotten at least a dozen "hits" where my phone told me there some someone out front. Um, no. There was never anything there. It kept detecting cars going by no matter how I had it adjusted. I tuned the sensitivity down to half and guess what? I could approach my house with an ISIS terrorist under each arm, AND all their weapons, shoot them off, then do jumping jacks and not set this thundering piece of crap off. Back to the store tomorrow and spend another $100 for the Ring 2 to see if that works.

I bought this for security and to be able to see who is coming to my home unexpectedly. It works great! As soon as someone comes near my door it shows on my phone. You can talk to them and let them know you are busy or tell them to wait and you will be there in a moment. The camera is very clear and covers a large area. You can adjust the intensity of the camera so it does not set your phone off every time a bird flies by. I plan to purchase another one for the garage. It was a hit for Christmas!

This thing hasn't aged well. It is spotty on connecting. Sometimes you have to wait a long time to be able to answer it. This is problematic if you want to be able to talk with the person on the other end, especially if you're away from your home. I'm pretty sure since we have the 1st Generation model, many improvements have been made in my problem areas. What do I like about it? - It's pretty cool looking - It was super easy to install (if you are mounting it on brick make sure you have masonry drill bits and a hammer dril. - No worries about battery since it hooks into the old doorbells power. - Motion sensing notifications with images - Integrates into the Ring Security system. Overall, a solid 1st generation option, but I'm ready to move up a few levels.

Bought this today. It seemed simple enough. I decided to hard wire it ao I dont have to mess with the battery. I got the plate mounted. The surface of my house is not exactly flat. We could not get the camera to seat on the bracket. Problem one. I then tightened the wiring screws down more to see if that was the issue and the screw broke. For $200 a screw shouldn't break off while hand tightening. So, trying to decide if I want to exchange it, return it or try it with the battery. I will update this once I can actually use it.

I would like to say it is a nice product, but from now on I hope these companies learn, if you don't know anything about mounting in brick don't include a bit to drill through it. This bit they included is cheap steal that's chrome plated, it was good for drilling for about .02 seconds and then it was scrap, I had to go spend the money to buy the proper sized bit. Stay in the doorbell business and not in construction.
