I'd like a replacement when a better model comes
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received the ring doorbell as a christmas gift. While I like the functionality of it, it does have flaws. The biggest issues for me: 1. Wait time when you call customer service. Expec to hold at least 10 minutes. I called about the installation. They claim everything you need is included but it is not. They should ask if you will be installing in brick or not, and if you are, include a brick drill bit. I had to Home Depot and get a Bosch drill bit for brick. Which worked great. 2. Customer support by email is not only slow, but don't expect your issue to be resolved. I opened a case about the delay with the doorbell and Ring had me send a wi-fi test result, but they never responded back to me, probably because they know this to be a MAJOR issue. They did try to get me to buy a wi-fi extender but throwing gadgets at a flawed product is not going to fix it. Plus my wi-fi times were the same by the router as they are by the ring doorbell. 3. The ring doorbell has a pretty significant delay. So like other customers who say you get video of a person walking away, I don't get that. I get a video of the person's vehicle driving away. So I can't tell you what the person looked like but I can give a description of the back of the car.

Steer clear!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I spent 2.5 hours drilling 4-holes into my brick siding to hang this thing, then had to spend 45 minutes with tech support to get the video up and running on my iPhone. After that it wouldn't take the trickle charge from the house and the doorbell inside the house wouldn't ring, only my phone. Another hour with tech support and nothing! The guy finally suggested I take the doorbell off the mounting plate (not a easy or fun task) every week or two, take it inside and re-charge it. Really? This company obviously pours more money into marketing than engineering. 48 hours later I returned it but I'll always have 4-holes in my brick siding, surrounding my old doorbell button to remember Ring!

Needs Work
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is installed on my front door facing west which means it gets the afternoon and evening sun. As a result it does not pick up movement until someone is at the door ringing the bell and there is a delay as motion detection is sent via wifi. The delay can be as much as 10 to 15 seconds. That said, it does work. My main complaint is that I can not hear the motion alert on my android phone because of my hearing and the pitch of their tone. According to the company, you can not change the alert. I can hear the alert on my IPad but not on my android. I have no trouble hearing other android alerts. Hopefully they will allow you to customize the alert in the future. In the would I recommend this, they need a MAYBE!

10/10 Features and Quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The features and video quality of the Ring Doorbell is very good. There are a good amount of features to customize your experience with the Ring Doorbell and the integration of the neighborhood app is very informative to the area you live near.

Beginner Security
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This security device is good for the price, but know that if you wish to have saved videos, you will need to purchase a monthly plan. The camera field of view is nice and wide. Audio works. The unit needs to be removed to charge the battery. Good for the price I paid.

Good Concept - Poor Execution
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ring doorbell is a great product in concept m but is too glitchy to work in practice. I have 100mbps internet speed and the camera continually falls offline or fails to capture clear video. Customer service is atrocious. They blamed my internet speed and location. I have a 100mbps wi-fi extender not more than 10 feet from the camera. The exterior Nest cam I have is another 50 feet away and never has issues with video quality or online status. Additionally the doorbell is so slow to ring to your app that the person at the door is usually gone before I receive a notification. Further, the motion sensor is not selective. I received so many alerts in the first few days that I turned off the alerts as worthless. Do not waste your money on this poor product with even worse customer service.

Better than nothing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had at first bought the Ring Pro but I was unable to get wiring to power it so I had to go to the original Ring. Installation was easy with no problems but that is where the positives stop even though I had high hopes for it. I had read from some people that there were delays but I thought that was because of bad wireless connections. Well, that is not the case. My Ring is about twenty feet from my wireless router and it still has major delays. Most times the camera does not pick up anyone until the person is walking away. I have had many times where I have walked up to the camera and it did not even register that there was movement. Anyone that comes to the side of it is hardly ever picked up. The sad thing is that it will pick up light reflected off of a window of cars driving by and that is where I get most of my activations from the Ring app. I am not happy with this system but I will put up with it for now so I have something which better than nothing but I really do not think this is much better than nothing. Great idea but it needs more work and way overpriced for the item. The way the item works it should cost you $50 not $200. I wish they could have made the Ring Pro to be able to use a rechargeable battery because I really wanted to try that one even though that has some bad reviews, too.

it's a doorbell
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. On the 2nd one, bought whole kit, doorbell, chime, 2 cameras. Chime works like a charm. Doorbell rings, alerts, and you can see someone there, the trouble is in the motion detection, will not pickup for nothing. On phone over an hour with tech support, tried thus, tried that, it's defective, we will send another one, live view never worked, okay let's try cameras, same results you gave v to be right on them to work. Called support, told them do not send replacement, all this was going back. Wife likes doorbell. So, I ll try another, new one, doorbell rings, alerts, you can see someone there. Live view works. Motion, alert, and camera, NOTHING. So your package gets delivered, delivery rings bell, you are at work and acknowledge, like you re home, 10 minutes later thief c 9 me to dd or and walks off with package, I have it set on frequent alert, motion set right past middle setting, I c an stand 5 ft in front doing jumping jacks and nothing. ... a very expensive doorbell.

Great Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Ring Doorbell is a great product. The picture quality is very good but the alerts are delayed a second or two. Still a pretty good investment. If the company can fix the delay issue I would give it 5 stars.

Good for a moment
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The doorbell camera worked well at first. After about 1 year, it started having problems. Now, it drops signal a lot. I also do not like that it has to be removed from the wall every time it drops signal. I wish there was a way to reconnect without unscrewing it. Still an effective product though. I evened m recommend this product, but be prepared to need a new one after a year. Also, a wifi extender and the chime are helpful.

Ding Dong. The smartest doorbell
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This smart doorbell works great and looks great too. I can communicate with the person at the door (only if they ring the bell). Perfect for letting family know to "just come in." Only complaint is there is no ability to view the camera live UNLESS someone rings the bell or if motion is detected.

Some set up issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first one I purchased was faulty right out of the box. Battery was dead so I couldn't start the set up process. Once I put a charge on it, it still failed to connect when going through the set up process. I returned for a new one which worked like a charm. Mounting was a bit of a challenge since I needed to drill into granite. The rock isn't flat so getting the mounting plate flush to the main unit took some adjustments but it worked out. Plus, I had to buy a hammer drill to get through the granite so now I have a nice new drill for the toolbox! I'm using the battery since my doorbell wiring isn't working, the only disappointment with that is that I can't just pull up the camera on demand on my phone. That feature only works when hard wired. Not in love with that and I would hope that they would change it so I can turn on the camera on demand.

Love it and hate it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the ring doorbell because of the hardwiring option - therefore not requiring batteries or other cords. But, this motion detector sucks. The street by our front door is 15-20 feet away, however even set to 5 feet, we get constant notifications every time a car goes past 15 feet away, but if I stand 5 feet away, it doesn't pick me up at all. Also if your porch is not a straight view, don't get this. The peripheral is horrible and doesn't pick up people until they have been standing at your door for 30seconds. So,by the time it is recording, someone could have stolen your package and the only view is their back - from a distance - as they walk away

Works great!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this to help my mom so we wouldn't have to walk up to the door to see who was there. It was easy to install and they have a great follow along video. The app works really well too and enables you to check your door from anywhere you have cell data or Wi-Fi.

Forget this product!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have had 2 of these and numerous contacts with customer service to no avail. Motion detector and camera don't sync at all. They advertise this as being extra security for your home. Doesn't even detect the mailman until he's long gone. It would hardly detect someone stealing something from your door. Don't bother with this especially for the price!!!!! The cloud is only good for a month then you have to pay for the service.

Buyer Beware
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had the Ring for 6-months now, of which half the time it has been non-functional. Ring claims that it will run for 1-year on battery power or may be hardwired to existing door bell wiring with voltage between 8 -20v. I tested 17v at my wires. It worked for about a month and a half then died. I was told to remove it from the wall and run through setup again. When it was non-responsive I was told to charge it, so apparently the hardwire power connection was insufficient and the 1-year battery time was overstated. It then functioned again for another month and a half and stopped working. I was again told to run the setup, which requires the work of removing it from the wall. When it still didn't work I was told to run through setup again as if it needed reset from changes they made at their end, requiring the work of removing it from the wall. When it still didn't work they told me to run through setup again. I demanded a replacement, which they eventually sent. The replacement Ring would alert me of someone at the door but would not transmit video. They again told me to run through the setup, repeatedly. I had enough working to try to make their product work, especially with the pointless seeming step of re-running setup that requires physically removing the unit from the wall, which their techs seem to be following off a list with no real analysis taking place.
