    Works As Expected

I have the Ring on both my front and back doors. While the device was a little difficult to install on brick it was fairly easy on the wood panel. My only issue is with the delay with motion alert. Otherwise I am happy.

Everything related to the battery was just bad

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Installation and setup was quite easy but the battery experience was just awful. Charging is unbelievably slow. It doesn't come with its own USB adapter which is okay but the recommended/required power adapters are not common at least none of the 5 in our house matched the requirements. 3 out of these 5 are 500mA. Then my standard Samsung S6 5.0V--2.0A adapter was not able to get a charge up to 45% in 24 hours and then not past 48% in 2 whole days. The charge indicator on the device starts blinking at basically zero but 5-10 minutes lights up indicating its at full charge--which it clearly wasn't. Then good luck getting a reading from your app where you have to ring yourself or go on live view to get an update. You can request a live view but there's no way to send a status update request. Why? Also the reading on the status page is different from the main page, you don't know what to believe. Finally when you disconnect the battery at 48% after2 full days it completely drains in like 8 hours. As a last resort you mount the thing to the wall and power in hopes it will charge through that. No, Sir. The manual actual warns you that you'll have to recharge with the USB cable at some point. And finally when the battery is empty that results in the doorbell ringing nonstop--in the middle of the night.

My phone won't stop going off. Sends notification for everything but people. I even turned the motion sensors down to the lowest and with the lowest notification setting. Needs facial recognition and only notify you then. Right now 97% of my notifications I watch and i don't even see what set off the motion sensor lol basically there to scare people because its pretty useless can't even go back to a certain time to watch feed unless there was a notification for it lol useless! Save your money and buy an actual security camera.

    Not a good product

This only gets one star because Ring's customer support tried pretty hard to make it work correctly. If not for that I'd give it NO STARS. Very unhappy with the performance of the product. It's looks nice and it's a great idea but the reality is it didn't work for me. No matter the settings it would detect every vehicle going down my street 45 feet away and would not detect people standing on my porch 99% of the time. If they stood there for a while it might finally detect them as they walked back down the driveway. I returned it to the store after two weeks of working with customer support trying to get it to work. This included them accessing it via wi-fi make internal adjustments.

    Great product, horrible service

I’ve been a huge fan and long-time customer of Ring. I’ve also given Ring doorbells to friends and family members as gifts. A recent deplorable customer service experience was bad enough that I am currently shopping for a new video doorbell/security camera solution. I’m disappointed, as I was planning on several Ring cameras as Christmas gifts this year, and the new security system coming out is exactly what I have been looking for. I will also be returning the Spotlight Camera I purchased this week, cancelling the order I placed for a spare battery and unsubscribing from my service plan. There are competitors out there.

    Other products without subscription

I got this Ring during Black Friday sales. Cons: 1) I can never get the motion alert right. It detects noises from passing traffic, the sun or the shadow, I guess. Too many nothing burger alerts. 2) Sometimes the night vision doesn't work. I have a few alert recordings that were pitch dark. 3) As pricey as it is, subscription is needed to see the recording. There are many cheaper products that have a few days of free storage. 4) This is a big security flaw in my opinion. One day I was recorded in the motion alert walking out of my house. My neighbor walked to my front door a minute after I left. She was not recorded and there was no alert that she was at my front door. A package thief could be at my front door right after they see someone left the house and not be recorded. The clip recorded is too short and there are a few minutes of lapse until the next motion alert to work. Maybe Ring calls it "smart alert". It is not well designed product. 5) The battery does not last as long as they claimed.

    Don't waste your time

Hi everyone, please don't waste your time on these products. Let me tell you why. I did my research and read tons of reviews from different Wi-Fi cams and these ones had the best. However that wasn't the case, after one week of being installed and working just fine they all when off line. I followed their instructions and some when back online only to go off line again same day or the next one. I called their 1800 number and after 1:44 doing things like: checking the Wi-Fi strength in each cam, reset them 100 times on so on, I was transfer to a level 2 technician and we started all over again and did the same things we have done before so after 2:52 I had enough, I told them either you send some one to fix this or you can give me my money back, I don't like wasting my time. The representative agreed to send someone but before they'd do that she wanted to try sending me two chime pro wife extenders. I agreed and when they got here 2 days later I set it up. It work! For 4 hrs and then when off line again! So next day I called the 1800 number again and this time the representive said that they don't send people that I was misinformed and he was sorry, so I requested to speak to a supervisor and I was told the same but if I wanted too so could get a refund including the coat of installation I paid for, I didn't agree, I said, I was told you'd send someone and I have an email two back it up and that's what I want, nothing else. After almost an hour again. I had to let go of the conversation because I was running late for doctor's appointment, so we agreed she'd call me back in two hrs hopefully with a good solution.

    Intermittent

We've had this for over 6 month now and in that time I've noticed a number of issues. First, its very slow to detect motion. The camera does not start until the person is standing in front of the door so you miss all the activity prior. The motion range adjustment does not work at all. I have it set to 8 feet and it picks up cars 30 ft away on the street. The biggest issue is it doesn't always work. I have not been able to isolate the cause but its not weather related. Its not WiFi signal related either because I have a WiFi signal booster sitting on the window sil just inside next to the door. It would not work without it. I also have 100/100 FiOS so its not bandwidth related. sometimes you get video and sometime you only get a picture or just a black screen. The concept is great but the execution is bad. Hope this helps.

This product is my start to home security. Purchased bronze to match my red brick. Had to use (buy) a hammer drill to drill into brick. I decided to drill into concrete mortar but only did top nails and left bottom undone because bottom portion hit my brick. Drilling into my brick was too hard. I was able to install just fine with only top screws anchored of course. After 30ish minutes, my hallway door bell chimed like normal. Now I have time to decide on rest of home security camera options.

    Unreliable for Security

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Noticed problems with the Ring Doorbell in the first week. Ring app showed Doorbell on Battery instead of Hardwired. Then Motion sensor is unreliable for a security system. Motion is triggered when guests arrive, but not when they leave. Other times Motion shows guests leaving, but not arriving. Motion is triggered by cars driving by, but doesn't pickup car pulling into driveway, or leaving. Contacted Ring Support and it took weeks to finally convince them to replace the new Doorbell. Replacement Doorbell does not work any better. Ring Support will have you go through all kinds of hoops before replacing device, even trying to get you to crawl up in your attack to take a photo of the transformer, after you tell them you are a licensed electrician and have 22Volts at the Doorbell mounting bracket. Very frustrating. Ring Doorbell is not reliable for security purposes. Don't waste your money on it.

You need to be aware that the real life performance is not like what they show in their sales materials: You see crisp HD video with edge to edge video. You get highly compressed SD looking video with terrible vignetting (black edges, see photo for an example). You see motion detection that shows people's faces as they approach your door (and steal your packages). You get motion detection that shows their backside as they walk off with your package. You see night vision that allows you to discern what you are looking at. You get night vision that is nearly impossible to see anything but lights or objects 5' away. (again, the attached photo should help you understand)

Video quality is mediocre. I don't have any pixelation as I'm connected to a very fast router/internet, but I also own the Ring Floodlight that is 1080 and it blows this 720 doorbell outta the water. Night/day of a difference. It might be on sale for $99, but it isn't worth it. I'll be returning it tomorrow to pick-up the 1080 version instead. Might cost more, but the higher res is worth it to me.

Installed and set-up easily. Unit has a good range of features - especially for the money. There are additional costs for video recording features, but charges seem reasonable. Overall product quality seems fair (gaps in housing, unit doesn't seal on mounting bracket) but looks nice. I did contact customer support with a few post-installation questions and was surprised by the somewhat brusque and disinterested "help" I got. Service is definitely an important component of a product, specifically newer technology like this, so not thrilled overall. Neat product, questionable support.

First and foremost they have accessible custimer support and try to help. I bought the 4 pack. video bell with two video cams and doorbell. I also bought a range extender for my wifi since reading reviews not having a strong signal was an issue. I set up the first videcam, followed directions took about 20 minutes, charged, tested and works great. Live view is clear and works great day or night. The door cam was a different story, even with a pilot hole I immediately snapped the head off one of their instastallion screws and had to remove base with a plier. Then I had to find better screws with a similar small protruding head or I would not be able to mount the doorcam. Finally I got it installed, It was a little difficult sliding the dooorbell cam onto the backplate and catching the 6 hooks but I eventually able to do it. Unfortunately, the doorcam rarely registers people coming to my door. Randomly as in infrequently I will get the back of a person. I called tech support and tried many different modifications, speed tests and setting changes on their end and now I get cars driving down the block. I left this morning and came back and I didnt register. I put in another call to tech support this morning. I'm hoping I just have a defective unit because my friend has one of these and so far it works fine for him. Will write back on here and advise if doorcan eventually works or not. I cannot recommend the door cam at this point but the video cam is great.
