    Just Another Cash Grab

    Posted .

Received this as a Christmas gift, glad it wasn't my money that was wasted. Unless you are holding your phone and swipe to answer the second you are notified you will never know who was there. After the first 30 day (trial) where the videos are stored. This product becomes useless, unless you are ok with the cash grab society we live in. I however am not. This could have been a great product if it were actually designed for the consumer. The video/camera quality is great, the camera has a viewing angle that is just shy of 180 degrees. If you are replacing and existing wired doorbell you will not have the battery issues that some people complain about. But the biggest thing is that you can't store the videos yourself, which makes this useless after the 30 days unless you are ok with yet another subscription.

not for outdoor use. not water resistant!

it doesn't react good with the rain. After 1 month leds stop working, then I contacted the ringbell customer support asking for a replacement. They said the bell was not waterproof, only water resistant so I never got the replacement. After this, i put clear silicone around the doorbell to protect it from the water. After 2 months the doorbell stopped working completely. Never again I am purchasing another ring doorbell. Also, wireless signal is not strong enough. you have to put the modem really close to it to make it work. wireless is not reliable, so sometimes somebody will press the botton and you will not receive the call. I had to hardwire the doorbell to make it work.

    Worst device ever

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This has to be the worst device I've ever used. The installation back plate does not allow any room for error. So if you're installing into stucco, you have to get it PERFECT. This isn't like the nest where it allows you to move if the screws weren't placed perfectly. If you have stucco, do not get this.. infact.. just don't buy this. Seriously, it's garbage. After the install, the ring wouldn't even fit to the back palate. I had to pound on it with my fist to get it to go on. Once install things took a turn for the worse.. i know.. how much worse can it get, right? The app is poorly designed as well, though after that install i am not shocked. You can't see what the camera sees unless you push the ring button.. on and BTW, the wifi isn't strong enough, so it's actually not even usable. Can't move my wifi, can't move the ring... If you're on vacation and getting too many alerts, and you think "Hey, i'll just adjust the sensitivity," Good idea....but nope... you have to physically touch a button on the ring.. which one? who knows... it just says to press a button.. doesn't say if it's the doorbell or the one on the back. Only if you seriously hate yourself or another person (you know... a gift), should you ever buy this. Unfortunately i received this as a gift, and all i wan't to do is smash it into pieces.. but i can't.. .it was a gift.

The protection you need for your house

This device is perfect for me to keep an eye on my house while I’m away for work or even for vacation. Depends on the sensitivity you set it for this battery should last you between a month to two before having the need to charge it. I also like how if I want to keep the recording that I would just need to pay $3/camera compared to other subscription that charges more. The doorbell feature is also very helpful to have.

    HORRIBLE !!!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This this is the world's worst. Firstly, it advertises to be "wireless" then when you call to complain, they say, well, you are using it wireless, it would work much better if you hard-wired it. WTF! My friend had it hard-wired with the exact same issues, so that's not the problem. ABSOLUTELY NO MOTION , EXCEPT CARS PASSING DOWN THE STREET. ZERO - NADA - ZIP. Forget it, they should remove the Motion aspect/selling point cause it does not work. Now the doorbell - here's how wonderful that works. You come to my door, you push my doorbell, after about a 5-10 second delay my phone and wall chime begin to ring. About 15-20 seconds from that point the app opens up for the video to display, which then takes about another 15 seconds to focus, because first you see nothing but black, which then becomes just a big white blob on the screen, then as it focuses and tries to come into view, you see the HEAVY pixelation of what will one day become a video if you're patient enough, but you surely can't tell who/what might be going on, and then finally, after total frustration has set in, there it is - the picture of whoever WAS at your door walking away and is already all the way down the walkway which runs up to your house and either entering their car or continuing down the street on the sidewalk. You could try SCREAMING so the speaker might be heard by them, but heck, they'd probably hear you because you're in your backyard by the pool screaming outside and it has nothing to do with the fact there's a speaker on there. I even emailed back and forth with the owner who actually told me my motion problem was due to placing the bell too high on the wall - it couldn't be any higher than 48", so I went out, removed it, drilled another 4 holes in my exterior wall (which is now beginning to look like a dart board because initially I put it on the door, and all I got in my view was a picture of the sides of the insets on both sides of the door - so don't make that mistake if you dare to say, oh, others say this is a good product so I'm getting it anyways - that's what I did.) Anyways, after going thru other B.S. adjustments that totally failed, the owner asked me to send a picture - I did - and he said, "I see your problem - you've mounted it too high. Move it to no higher than 48" and you'll see a BIG difference" - so I did - and IT DID NOTHING - STILL NO MOTION - NO IMPROVEMENT AT ALL. Oh, and it was at this point that the "owner - Jaime" of this company stopped replying to my emails for help. No offer of replacement, no other ideas. Just jacked around with emails for a few days resulting in more damage to my exterior walls, etc. Trust me, for this amount of money, forget it! It is useless as anything more than a doorbell and even that is delayed and who wants it for anything else because video's so slow to load you'll NEVER catch most people at the door, but you'll get a good shot of the back side as they're walking away. And trust me, it couldn't have been any closer to my router which is setup just inside the same wall the thing is mounted on and the router gets top notch reception. For the record, my neighbor who had hers hard-wired finally had enough and returned it. She thought she'd try a Zmodo, which is also on the top of the line lists you see everywhere online. That one isn't doing any better for her. Great idea, IF IT WORKED! My return has been processed and is on the way back.

REALTIME VIEWING IS NONEXISTENT AFTER 30 DAY TRIAL

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this because it was touted as best available by the reviewers, but there is still plenty of room for improvement. ONLY BUY THIS PRODUCT IF YOU ARE WILLING TO SPEND $30 ANNUALLY TO VIEW VIDEO FOOTAGE AND IF YOU ARE WILLING TO CHECK OUT THE RING VIDEO SEPARATELY FROM ANY OTHER SECURITY CAMERAS YOU OWN. You cannot sync Ring Video with other mobile device surveillance software. And once you decline payment for "previous video footage" Ring Video limits your access to real time footage too. The first 30 days with trial video recording access via cloud were great. Thereafter, Ring allowed about two weeks of access to video in real time, but I had to "answer" the chime notification within a very limited 30 seconds or so. After 2 weeks, I couldn't even get real-time support within 3 seconds. I am no longer able to "answer" my video doorbell.

I am seeing some reviews on here and am very surprised. I've had my Ring for about 9 months and it has worked perfectly. I wish the camera was a little clearer, but it has not let me down. It's nice to see who's at your door while you are away. I am thinking of upgrading the front door to the pro version and put this Ring at the back door. You do have to pay $30 a year for the recording subscription, but other than that, hands down love the Ring.

Poor support and not usable in cold winter weather

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased this doorbell in March, 2016, to replace my existing wired doorbell. Worked great until an Android application upgrade caused the app to stop working on my phone. When I would try to access Live View from the phone, I would get a series of status messages then after about 60 seconds I would get a message saying that "We're having trouble connecting..." The Ring help desk people did not seem to understand how to troubleshoot this issue. The Live view and notifications continued to work properly from my notebook computer but not on the phone. Ring Support insisted that I had a WiFi bandwidth issue and asked me to run bandwidth test after bandwidth test. I could not understand why they requested that I run the bandwidth tests when the doorbell was operating properly with my notebook computer. They asked me to uninstall and resinstall the app on the phone--no change. Even though the doorbell was working fine with my notebook, support asked me to do a factory reset on the doorbell. As a part of performing this reset, new firmware was installed in the doorbell. My old phone a tablet (running an older Ring app) now work fine but the latest version of the Ring app still did not work. Ring support continued to ask questions about my ISP, router, modem and how many access points in my home even though the older app was working fine on my notebook and old phone. After updating the app on my phone, I started getting some Android permissions errors, none of which were correctable on the phone. After several weeks a new version of the app was installed automatically which solved the permissions issue. It should be noted that Ring support never contacted me to let me know that this new version of the app was available. This then lead me to discover a significant issue with the Ring doorbell in the cold winter weather here in Wisconsin. No where in the specifications for the Ring doorbell on the Best Buy site are any of the following issues noted (confirmed by Ring level 2 support). 1. Even if the doorbell is connected to the existing doorbell wiring, excessive use of the motion detection or live-view can cause the internal battery to become discharged requiring the doorbell be unmounted, recharged using a USB cable then reinstalled. 2. In cold weather the battery will not hold a charge as well as in warmer weather. Again, even with a wired connection, manual recharging is necessary. 3. The web site does not specify the operating temperature range for the Ring doorbell. According to Ring level 2 support it is not designed to operate below -5 deg F. and battery life is degraded below 20 deg F.

Overall a good product I would give 4.5 if I could. It works well if you have good WiFi. It’s a great source of security for your home if you don’t already have a system installed. You can adjust sensitivity settings which is a good thing because it will notify you even when a vehicle goes by or the sunlight is hitting it.
