TAKE A QUICK MOMENT TO READ THIS BEFORE PURCHASING
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are considering purchasing this doorbell and the reason you are doing so is because you like the Live View feature I would take a moment and call Ring Community Support (1-800-656-1918) first. Ask if the Live View feature works like it says that it does on their website. If your answer is the same as I got ( be alarmed if so) they will tell you that they are having "issues" and it will be up tomorrow. And if you call them again the next day they will tell you the exact same thing..."we're having issues, it will be up tomorrow" and on and on and on. I bought mine a week ago and Live view still does not work despite making a number of phone calls on different days talking to both managers and support representatives. Each time I was told it will be up the next day. I haven't seen it for myself so I'm not sure it has ever really worked.

Ring wanted to send a replacement but I returned
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am very disappointed with my Ring as well as Ring Pro doorbell experience. First I bought Ring doorbell last Friday and installed it hard-wired after removing my old ding-dong. Wifi configuration, prior to installation, was not easy as at first it did not connect to my Wifi and said the "connection was not successful". My wifi extender was right next to my door and signal strength was excellent. I have a good internet connection and I stream movies and netflix on a regular basis without any issue. My wifi settings were also as per ring recommendations. Anyway after several attempts, it somehow made it to my network. I was still glad that it worked. I installed it at my front door and shared it on my wife's phone. When i pressed the bell, it ringed on my doorbell, my phone and my wife's phone almost instantly. HOWEVER here's what I didn't like. The video did not load properly sometimes. Also the MOTION DETECTION never worked. I tried playing around with settings but it didn't help. I left ring with a support request via email as it was past 6:00pm on Friday and their support is only available until 6:00pm. Until Tuesday I never got any returned email or call. I called ring on their 800 number and the technical support tried to reset my device and set it up again (which I myself had tried many times). However they concluded that my device is bad. I returned my device at Best Buy and went for Ring Pro option thinking that it might be better. For Ring Pro I even had to waste more time as I had to wire-up their small Power Supply unti inside my Door Bell (which they don't mention in their ad.). After that I was able to set up Ring Pro on my phone. However this was even worse as I was not even able to get the video to load properly. The device was slow and motion detection still did not work. Without further wasting time I returned that as well.

Do not buy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one of the worst purchases I have ever made to date for a tech device. You spend the money for the doorbell and the quality(I know it is 720) is horrible. God forbid your door faces sunlight at all it is even worse. The alerts take 20minites for you to receive them and another 20 minutes for the app to open them. The reason you buy the Ring Doorbell for security is obsolete. The person is there and gone before you get alerted. You then have to spend $3 a month on service to see who was there instead who is there. There is no option to store your videos locally which is horrible( I know I read this beforehand and figured not a big deal) well it is. If you are on the fence for that reason do not buy this product. I am an IT guy so I know a little about what would annoy another person who likes to control there equipment more than the next person. Even though you buy a hardwired version you still need to charge the battery. Why didn't I just buy a battery operated one if either way I need to take to off the wall to charge it. Granted the battery last quite awhile but only if you shut a bunch of options off. Not useless options either, options like if it alerts you everytime or maybe when it thinks it should. The option to take a snapshot everytime it is set off or wait the 40min for the app to open. Please save your money with this purchase and put it toward a security camera for the front door.

Doesn’t work
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the most annoying thing I’ve ever purchased. The notifications go off 24/7, even when there’s nothing there. A few days ago my husbands truck was broken into and the Ring only caught taillights driving away after the fact and the truck was in sight of the doorbell so why didn’t it catch anything? You can send me 50 notifications per day for nothing at all but can’t alert me when someone breaks into my truck?! I want a refund! I hate this device. Useless.

1/2 the price I would keep it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This doesn't do what it's suppose to. I bought one and returned it based on the ring's trouble shooting. I got a 2nd one and it does the same thing. It will work when I ring the doorbell. It will not work when I walk up to it, however it will pick up the cars going down my street. They don't care that they were loosing a customer. It will start working after I walk up to it and I start walking away. I only gave it the one star because zero was not an option.

Poor wifi management
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The product worked great when initially installed. From that standpoint, I have no complaints. At some point after the first day of use, it dropped off of my WiFi network. There is no alert that this occurs, and the device will not automatically rejoin the network. To rejoin, you must physically uninstall the device so you can access the orange button on back and go through the entire "add a new device" process, which is cumbersome and time consuming. Was told by customer service that the pro version will automatically rejoin the wifi network if the connection is dropped. While this may be a problem with WiFi, a device that will have to be physically re-installed and added back to network without notification if it loses WiFi signal for any reason is a deal breaker.

Constant Problem
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently purchased the Ring Doorbell Pro after reading how easy the installation was and the superior performance of the product. Wrong on both counts! After several hours of trying to install the product following the step by step instructions, it still did not work. We even went as far as replacing the doorbell transformer to make sure it was compatible with the specifications. When that didn't work we installed a wifi range extender and that also didn't work. Finally we returned the item and replaced it with a new one after the tech told us it appeared to be a return and someone tried to install it previously. ???? Moving forward we installed the new unit and it seemed to work as described. However, after three days the unit stop working properly. The doorbell rings but there is no video. When you attempt live view you get a blank screen. When the motion is set off it also shows a blank screen in the recording. Word of warning. Before purchasing this product be aware you may have a very expensive doorbell.

Good idea, performs poorly, rated - do not buy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I began by purchasing a Ring Video doorbell to replace a wired doorbell. Installation went fairly smoothly and I was up and running. I couldn’t hear the doorbell to well so I next purchased some Ring chimes. The Ring Video failed and it was replaced. Then the Ring Video doorbell began failing, so I called and they said the internet connection must not be good and I should get a chime pro to be placed between the router and the doorbell. The doorbell worked again for a while. Then it failed again. The chime pro was replaced, and it worked again. Now it has failed again. The suggestion when I call the company now is that the chime pro be placed closer to the doorbell, but I’m away from the home (one of the reasons for buying the product), so that will have to wait. Compare this to the Nest Video doorbell that I have at another property- it works fine and the router is multiple floors away from the doorbell without any extender devices ... now which one would you buy....

Poor execution
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you don't pay for the cloud storage ($30) it won't allow you to see any of the motion activation. At that point it's a $200 $1.50 door bell switch. Lots of potential. At $30/year 7 years and you would have paid for it twice. Too bad they don't allow you to use the free cloud storage from Google or Microsoft. I cannot even delete all the Motion activations.

Watch out for the extra charge protection plans
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchase a 2nd Ring device for my home and was never told, nor is it mentioned on the packaging that I need to purchase a 2nd protection plan in order to review video of a notification. Without a plan, one can only view the video the second the notification is sent. If you can't get to your phone right away, no video! No way to tell what just tripped your device!

Got this as a gift for Christmas
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this from Christmas. It was cool, I get to see day to day activity in your front door. But after 30 days, I have no control. I can not review videos, check who was at my door until you join member that cost $30 year or $3 a month. I returned and looking into the Skybell which will not charge any membership fees. I gave it 2 stars, 1 as a gift and 2 because it only worked for the first 30 days.

Ok at first, but they break frequently
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've gone through 5 doorbells in two years. Ring replaced them pretty easily the first few times, but after awhile they quit wanting to cooperate and will blame your equipment. The doorbells I had failed at two different locations. One I installed personally, and the other one I had professionally installed by an electrician. They both used the transformer recommended by Ring. They admitted having design flaws with the earlier products, but there is still something very wrong. They also recently changed their pricing plans and when my doorbell went offline, I lost my old plan and all of my recorded rings. I decided to switch to another brand and picked it up at BestBuy this week. I'm very happy with the results, and the other brand integrates with my thermostat and other smart home devices. I would stay away from Ring unless you absolutely need the battery feature and can't wire in the doorbell.

Unable to Install with Wedge Kit
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Attempted multiple times to install the Ring Doorbell 1 with the wedge kit (purchased separately from Ring.com). After multiple calls and emails with Ring Support I'm about to return everything. The wedge kit leaves a 1cm gap between the siding and the wedge legs on the outside corners of the wedge. It doesn't mount flush to the siding like in all the Ring install videos. Verified multiple times with Ring Support that we had the right wedge kit and was finally told to sand down the 1cm legs. A quick google search turned into hours of troubleshooting as there's no other info on the Ring Doorbell 1 and the wedge installation except from Ring. I am in the tech support field and walk little old ladies through device installations on a daily basis over the phone. If I can't do this then something is very wrong. So for anyone with siding that may need the wedge kit, please know you may not even get past installation to really use the doorbell.

Seems good at first, then you find all the flaws
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This seems like a good product when you first install it, but after the free first months cloud service runs out you have to pay $3 a month to make the product worthwhile. For a $200 product I would expect to be able to see my videos without having to pay an additional monthly fee. Once you pay the $3 a month fee you cannot access any of the video activity that happened while you were not playing for the service. So device becomes basically a video intercom that is only any good to answer your door bell. You need to but the separate chime to be able to hear the door bell if the phone it is connected to is not where you can hear it and you don't wire it into your existing door bell, which does not always work if you want to reposition the Ring doorbell. The security screws locking the device down are tiny and easily stripped. They look like a T5 torx. Could not get screw out since it stripped when trying to remove Ring to recharge it so had to cut the screw off.
