Happy with my Ring video doorbell pro!

I'm not sure why there are such mixed reviews. I purchased my Ring pro last week and was able to do the installation pretty easily. I'm handy so the extra steps didn't concern me. I like that it comes with the different faceplates and I like the smaller look of this doorbell versus the original one. I think the camera quality is great and love that it gives me peace of mind when it comes to knowing what's going on at home.

We had the ring doorbell 2 an that one was did not do good so we went with the PRO an this one works a lot better still not great but better we have great power going to it but the power keeps dropping to only good from very good only had this hooked up for 2 months so we will see but its still better then the ring 2 now ring needs to update recording so we as customers can decide how long motion last on ac power like 1-2-3-4-5 minutes at a time an let us pick between video like 480-720p-1080p an face recognition an 24/7 recording with motion cause we have to buy a monthly subscription of $30 a year for each camera for us to get video play back.not much but other companies or some are free with the SD card installed

Great Product; Really Poor Customer Service

I'm going to be honest, if my review were entirely about the product itself, I'd probably give it a 5. I typically dislike when people mix in their support issues with product review, however, I feel like this experience could be shared by a number of people and I wanted to make people aware of the lack of support received because it is likely to happen to someone reading this writeup. That was less than a 1 star experience. For the good: The video doorbell does what it says. It will: 1. Let you answer the bell on your phone from anywhere in the world (assuming you have service). 2. Let you set up a motion zone, so that you don't get bothered by general movement in front of your door. 3. It has good sound and the video is fluid. 4. If you pay the $3 monthly fee, you can record all motion at your door and archive it for a couple months. If you need to download it to your computer or phone, you can do that. For the bad: What I was not expecting was that: 1. Although the website said that my chime was compatible with the Ring, it wasn't. They knew that because their internal information said it wasn't. 2. I purchased the unit believing it would work with my chime, and that it wouldn't be a problem to install. 3. My son called and waited on hold for 30 minutes and their solution was to send him a link to their compatibility list from their website. [He wasn't sure what unit it was, so he couldn't answer that question; I was at work] 4. I called back after I got home from work and waited on hold 15 minutes to speak to someone. 5. When I got on, they told me that my unit was incompatible, and I pointed them to their own website. 6. He looked into it while I waited and then came back and said that their internal documents were correct. 7. He told me, "What we'll do is change it on the website so that it lists the unit as incompatible." 8. I said, "OK, but how does that help me? What can I do to remedy this?" 9. He said, "What I'd do is go to Home Depot and buy a new chime. Bring it home and install it, and then the unit should work." [He did list out 25 units that should work] 10. I said, "You make it sound so easy." 11. He didn't respond. 12. I thanked him for his time, and said goodbye. That was absolutely no help. I can't recommend this product. If you do buy this, the review is posted to make you aware that the website might be wrong with regard to your current configuration and you might be stuck with more work and more expense than you planned.

The Ring doorbell is perfect for having a little extra security at your front door. Installation was easy and straight forward. The most difficult part was trying to fit the power kit inside the cover of my mechanical doorbell. It comes with everything needed to install it including the drillbit and screwdriver. The setup was very easy via the app. Just set your motion zones and choose the notifications you want. The app is intuitive and the picture quality is good. I am very happy with my purchase and look forward to the future HomeKit integration.

We purchased the Ring Pro and once everything was wired, we still didn't have power to the unit. When we went to return it, we found out it was most likely our power source that was the problem. We went home with a new Ring Pro and hired an electrician for $80 to upgrade our doorbell transformer, still no luck. I called Ring and they suggested it was just a bad unit. Went back to the store and exchanged it for our third unit and this one worked perfectly. It's easy to install and program, once you get it working it's pretty awesome. Takes some time to set your motion setting etc... Even though we had some early issues, I'll definitely be buying more RING products soon!

Amazing product. Easy to install and setup. Good features including remote monitoring, cloud storage for video playback, motion sensor zone can be customized to avoid phantom alerts. You can share access with your family members too. One tip - make sure your chime us wired correctly since the Ring gets its power through the circuit connected to it via the transformer in your home. Also note that many chimes have Front and Rear wires - don't get them flipped otherwise your Ring will not power up.

Excellent! Firmware 1.0.40 made the difference

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I decided to give this try because we needed advanced motion detection, but I didn't have high hopes based on current reviews. The install was easy thanks to the almost idiot-proof instructions, but the deficiencies in the second version of firmware (1.0.29) left a lot to be desired. Images during the day were black and white with poor illumination of a backlighted subject. Motion detection was buggy and unpredictable. When I went to uninstall it for return, I found that a new version of software, 1.0.40, had been downloaded this morning. The images are now great and motion detection is working very well. I'm particularly appreciative of the motion detection features because we have a difficult environment that has proven challenging with other sec. cameras. I'm able to set motion detection so that people just walking by on the sidewalk six feet in front of my door don't activate the sensor. Yep! It's a keeper!

Tried to install it and it would not work. I previously had the 720p Ring Doorbell and it had been working fine. Did some reading and discovered that the transformer was not powerful enough so I had my cousin install one that goes up to 24vac. Once the new transformer was installed, the doorbell install was very easy. Had a few issues with quality - black and white, night etc. until I received the latest firmware upgrade. Now it works great. The video is much clearer than the older Ring. I am very happy with it.

I installed the Ring doorbell the day before I moved into the new home. I wanted to know the amount of traffic going by along with who was at the front door. With Ring keeping me posted about every motion out front, it was easy to discover that I live on a very quiet street with very little traffic! Score! Having this info at my fingertips quickly enabled me to feel secure in my new surroundings. Thanks, Ring, I'm glad you moved in with me! (On a side note, my dog picked up on the phone's 'alert' right away. She barks every time she hears it, thinking there's someone at the door. She's too smart to be just a dog. . .)

This was pretty easy to install (and I am not a real tech person). It takes a moment to show up on your phone or iPad but you can speak to the person at your door almost immediately. My wife uninstalled it from her phone because it was keeping her awake. The real question is, do you really want to know what goes on outside the front door when you are asleep? For me yes, for my wife not so much (weird because she loves scary movies). I would rate this excellent but there is a small delay for video but it could totally be my wifi and where it is placed in the house. Very satisfied overall.

Installing this thing took me over 2 weeks, and I have extensive expertise with this kind of stuff. I think first one was defective as it wouldn’t broadcast an ssid no matter what i did so couldn’t set it up. Second unit they sent me worked quickly right out of the box and was was able to install pretty quickly. Never rings the actual mechanical doorbell so had to install a chime device. Live video is perfect but recorded video is missing 50% or more of the actual video due to stalling, but all the sound is there. Still working on getting this thing to work correctly but annoyed it’s taking so long. Also, 250mbps xfinity service and 18v 20va transformer producing 18 volts at doorbell verified by a meter I purchased for this. Would not recommend this to anyone without experience in this arena. Will update if I ever get this thing working correctly. Reading all the reviews, there is a serious quality control issue with several reviews depicting faulty devices. Ring should really work on this without wasting everyone’s time trying to get these to work. It’s seems to work perfectly for some, and after 2-3 replacements for others. Can’t wait for the nest doorbell to come out early next year!

We have a nine camera 1080P system in our home. But due to camera size and the nature of our home we did not have coverage of our front door. The Ring Pro solved all our concerns and it was very easy to install and setup. We needed a high quality image, two way communication and it needed to be wired with recorded images. It does all this as well as motion notifications. The real plus was the chime, we love the tone. We did have some false notifications when I first set it up. But this was resolved once I adjusted properly. Customer support has been excellent

I love this! Easy to set up. Works with the existing doorbell. Bought for wife as xmas gift. Now she knows and sees who's at the door, and talk to them through her iphone. Motion works great as well. Got on sale but still would buy at 249.99. Smart choice if you want to see what your across the street neighbors are doing at 1am on a tuesday. Great prodct, comes with drill bit, screw driver and numbered instructions.

Since my previous doorbell was broken, I had my Ring Pro professionally installed to be prepared for problems I couldn't handle. We both watched the installation video and the 45 min installation went surprisingly smooth. The installer feared the 2 wires you connect to the doorbell are often extremely short and that would complicate things, but they ended up being the desired length. Like others, I'm continuing to tweak the motion detection because of many alerts. Sensitivity settings would be awesome. The fisheye view is crisp and clear and shows an adequate range, and I love the live view feature. The only issue I may be having is the speaker volume on the doorbell seems to be low and folks say that can't hear me very well. Overall, I love this product and don't expect total perfection from this type of technology, but it's real close.

Not perfect, but I would still install it

I've had my Ring Pro installed and operating for about a month now and although not perfect, I would still recommend it and I'm very glad I chose to install this. Installation: Was not as easy as it could have been. I installed the power pack on my chime as instructed. Immediately the chime began to ring every 30 seconds or so for about 5 minutes then it stopped. Next I installed the Ring Pro itself. Could not get the thing to connect to wi-fi. I noticed a hot smell so I immediately uninstalled the power pack as it was causing the circuit board on my chime to heat up. In fact it had gotten so hot a plastic piece inside the chime melted and that's why it had stopped ringing. Tech supports (CYA) answer was to tell me I needed to contact an electrician because they thought I might have faulty wiring. I knew this was not the case. Now that my chime was fried I needed a new one. I consulted the chimes listed as compatible on the Ring website. I installed a known compatible electronic chime and the Ring power pack. No issues with heat and now the Ring Pro connected to my network easily on the first try. My recommendation, check your doorbell compatibility first and save yourself some headache. I like the ability to customize the motion field on the Ring Pro. I get quick alerts. I do get an occasion alert when nothing is there and for some reason when my porch light timer turns off the porch light at night it triggers a motion alert every time. Because of this I give it 4 stars instead of 5. Overall I would recommend the Ring Pro. I always know when a package is delivered. I really like being able to see who's at my door without opening it.

I bought and installed the Ring Pro on 4/21 and as other users were stating the functionality of the Ring Pro doorbell was less than desired. I had to go through setup multiple times and the motion detection wasn't working. I also experienced a lot of latency after the doorbell was rung before I was notified. After the most recent firmware update, I do not have nearly the issues that I did the first few days. This week I have still noticed the following: The live viewing feed is more grainy that I would expect from 1080p even though I'm on my home wifi or LTE. The saved video playback is much more crisp. I'm hoping this will be fixed soon. I also had to disable motion alerts as I kept getting them every minute or two when my dog was at the front door because you cannot exclude getting alerts during certain times of the day (say when you are home). At this point I'm going to keep it and hope that through firmware updates and iOS updates to the app the user experience and functionality will improve.

    Works but buggy

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The camera works but still has bugs to work out. Issues: Ring has connectivity issues to the Chime Pro. Always disconnects and the Chime Pro is limited to only 2.4Ghz frequency while the pro is dual band. Why would the company make a "Pro" version that isn't capable to it's counter part? When I get ring alerts, it takes FOREVER (sometimes it ends up timing out) to answer the Ring on my IPhone 8 (Latest IOS and app version as of 2/21/18). This defeats the purpose of answering your doorbell from your phone. It takes several minutes for the event to be logged in the app to allow you to view it again. This is an issue because when the app times out when trying to answer the ring, I go back into the app to view who's there and i can't even see the event for a while. If these 3 things were fixed, I would love my Ring and make it worth the $250 it costs. But until then, I feel its worth maybe $100 at most at this point.
