I honestly would not recommend this product after now having it for a few weeks. I actually purchased the one I have through ADT when my new alarm system was installed. In the Ring App you have a zone adjustment that can go anywhere from practically zero feet to around 30'. At the "happy medium" distance (15'ish) it was still picking up passing cars that are around 25-30 feet away from my house. So I backed it up even more to a closer range. Wellll it would STILL pick up cars passing. So I called the Ring Help hotline. Spoke on the phone with someone, went through all kinds of adjustments and in the end it is still picking up on cars even though I have it backed down very close. On top of that it has a mind of its own and often does not pick up movement until you are literally right in front of it. So to me that sucks. I would like for it to pick up (people or animals) approaching my home/front door around the 10/15' distance and alerting me to it before they are actually face up against my front door glass peeping through. I no longer know what to do and my next step is to ask for either another unit or just a return on the product.

Great idea, execution still needs refinement. I purchased both a Ring Pro Doorbell (for the front porch) and a standard Ring Doorbell (for my garage). The pro says it will connect to 5ghz wifi, but I found that it was extremely difficult to get it to connect and stay connected. I have a brand new, state of the art router (it cost about $400) that is well within wifi range, and it still struggled to connect to the 5ghz band. Unfortunately, video & audio quality on the 2.4ghz band was not great and the connection on 2.4ghz while reliable for a few days at a time, would keep disconnecting randomly also. I actually tried it on 3 different routers over the course of a little over a month, and all three routers had the same connectivity & reliability issues, so I know it has to be an issue with the ring hardware or software, not the wifi routers. I am a highly technical individual with degrees and certifications as well as 15+ years in high-level technical fields, so I'm pretty sure I have a good handle on how this stuff should be setup and how it should work. While I loved the concept of the Ring, it just wasn't reliable enough for the $250 (pro) + $200 (standard). I need something that will connect, stay connected, and be consistent. It also kind of sucks to have to pay a subscription for cloud recording on EACH device. Seems like one subscription would be enough to cover at least 3 devices.

Hi Mousikos2, that doesn't sound right. We do recommend that your routers are no farther than 30 feet from your Ring devices for optimal performance but the closer it is, the better the performance. Thank you for sharing your feedback here - we'll look into bundle costs on cloud fees for the future. Would you kindly reach me at yul@ring.com today so that we can take a closer look at your device/account and ensure a stable connection to your network? Ring

this product is great! my friend Dan in the west bloomfield area helped me pick this out. He was great and helped me so much! this product took some time to install because I couldn't seem to figure out which breaker was for my doorbell. it ended up being my basement breaker. after I installed it i needed the ring chime pro because my doorbell was too far away from any footage. I had to go back to best buy and buy it, which was fine. I highly recommend this, but make sure to buy the $30 a year recording plan so your camera records any time there is footage!

At first I was skeptical.I thought to myself, how can a doorbell have a camera and actually work. Well it does. Its amazing. I get notified from across town and when I went on vacation 2 states away, I still was able to communicate with someone 500 miles away through my doorbell. Its amazing!!! I love the Live view option as well. To be able to see what is going on outside my door without someone having to ring my bell is definitely a great feature. Best investment I have ever made. On top of everything, the Customer support is extraordinary. Polite, knowledgable people.

Too many bugs, don't make my mistake; stay away!

First, the good: The form factor is great! The 4 color options are fantastic! The thoughtfulness of provided tools (masonry drill bit, dual-sided screwdriver, foam adhesive pads, etc) is top notch! The set up took less than an hour for someone who is slow and takes a lot of time to follow steps/instructions. The bad: Latency (the time from when the button is pressed to when your doorbell rings and you get an alert on your phone has been super inconsistent, sometimes does not work, and other times takes multiple minutes to engage/work... which most people would leave your front door by then) Settings for lighting are non-existent (i.e. - if you have a semi-covered entry way and there is more light behind your entry way, your visitor will not be identifiable because of the lack of contrast function) The App does not work consistently (the Live View mode often will not actually show a live view, but sometimes it records and later you can go back and see the historic footage of your "live view") The specs claim 1080p, from my experience it is sometimes high resolution, and other times it is 480 at best, and other times it gets so pixelated you cannot see anything, or else the feed is gray or green. I called Ring customer service to get clarification on wiring configuration during my install, and the person on the other end had only seen the product, but did not have specific knowledge (seems like a miss by Ring to not have knowledgeable call center people near the launch of new iteration). To Ring's credit, within an hour, I received a call back from someone else (more on that later). I was told by Ring that they recommend 2 Mbps minimum upload and 1Mbps minimum download internet speeds (I am above both numbers). So far, the thing just does not work as you would anticipate. Someone walking up to your door has to VERY deliberately/forcefully push the doorbell, and then figure out that when they press the button, that they should hear chimes on their side to know that they actually pressed the button. Many times when I pressed the button, nothing happened at all. From there, if the doorbell push was acknowledged, it took between 1 to 8 minutes for the alert to get to our cell phones. (Before you think this is a wifi range issue, I have a router about 15 feet away from the doorbell). Now, going back to the person who called me back from Ring (which, by then, I had figured out my small wiring question), she said that they presume/accept latency of between 30-60 seconds. This seems like a totally unreasonable amount of time for me to get an alert that someone is waiting at my door. And to be clear, the Ring Pro also controls the mechanical chime/ring in your house, so it's not like you hear the doorbell and then wait to get a notification, the latency affects both the timing of when the doorbell chimes are engaged as well as when the alert comes to the phone. I was reluctant to get the August video doorbell cam only because of the form factor. I guess my only option now is to invest in a Doorbird... their entry one is $100 more than the Ring Pro, and their nicer ones are $600+. Last, to install this, I drilled into my brick. Not an easy repair, and I'm super disappointed for a product I anticipated as being great. I take responsibility for believing the hype/advertising. I should have known better. PLEASE DO NOT DRILL INTO YOUR BRICK like me... you can still install it, and take off your old doorbell and wire this up. If it works better for your set-up, great, go ahead and drill away, otherwise, I recommend you test it out first, and then make the commitment to drill!

Thank you for purchasing a Ring Pro! Ring Pro was placed in retail stores at an earlier date than requested, however, we're in the process of completing a rollout for a firmware update. This firmware update will alleviate many of the issues you mentioned (including the long delay in receiving your alerts) and you'll enjoy your Ring Pro experience much more once that firmware is loaded to your device. Firmware updates happen over the air, so you won't have to do anything to receive it; your device will search for any new available firmware daily. The updated firmware version is 1.0.29. I apologize about your initial experience but would like to get in touch with you to address any other inquiries you may have, and assist you further. Please reach me at yul@ring.com today. Ring

Installed the Ring Pro with my existing hardwired mechanical doorbell that should have continued to work with the Ring. Short answer is it didn't but Ring tech support was available via chat on a Sunday afternoon and quickly sent me a free Ring Chime to add to the system and replace old doorbell. Customer service is excellent, product development could use a little work. All in all it works great and adds a little peace of mind.

Was running firmware version 1.1.62 and the false motion alerts were out of control after dark. Now that I'm on version 1.1.30 I no longer get false motion alerts at night. Not having any issues with camera operation. I do have a Google fiber connection and I'm not experiencing any latency issues. Don't live with the false alerts. Contact support via live chat and they'll update you to a working firmware version. Very happy with my purchase now, doorbell works as advertised.

This produce was the best when we first got it. Easy to install, worked immediately, didn't have to get up to see who was at the door, and was able to monitor the house from work. However, after 4 months the device disconnected from our wifi. Went through the steps to reconnect, but the Ring wifi could not be accessed. I have been going back and forth with Ring support for another 4 months now trying to resolve. Standard troubleshooting techniques such as factory reset, wifi reset, electrical connection and wifi speed have not resolved it. I even disconnected the device and reinstalled. I also purchased a wifi booster to potentially remedy. Now it works intermittently, for about a day and looses connection again. I'm hoping this was just a faulty device because it was a great product at first. I'll update whether I get a replacement or end up trashing this one since I'm past return policy.

Purchased this item about 6 months ago. Worked fine in the beg. but as time went on, it started to freeze when people walk near it. Now everytime the doorbell is rung, it freezes. I have tried calling and emailing Ring support. That is a joke. They ask you to do so many things over and over. I did everything. All I want is a new unit as I am sure mine isnt working correctly. It is still under warranty. Ring support last told me I have to wait for an update and that MIGHT fix it. The unit is clearly broken and they will not send me a new one like they should. Unless your wireless router is 10 feet or less from your door, do not buy this item. The Customer Support team pretends to be good but they will not replace a broken unit. I attached a video that shows 2 people walking to my door. It freezes a little as they walk up. The moment the doorbell is pushed, it freezes.

I guarantee everyone with less than 2mbps upload are the bad reviews. For this to work....you need at least 2mbps upload to work. I had the original ring and stick up camera at first....they both work good. Upgraded to pro version because I wanted live on demand and ability to have on 5ghz...rather than 2.4ghz. Great unit. Those saying it has false alarms are not setting multiple zones correctly. Directions aren't the best....just have to play with the app.

    Decent Camera...BUT BE AWARE

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The camera itself is pretty good quality video. The big problem with this camera is after 30 days get out your credit card again. You are going to have to pay $30/year to have the unit record who was at your door. Most other cameras give you 7- 30 days of free video storage and then it loops. Most times between the time the person enters the range field of the door it will notify you , but by the time you bring up the image on the video the person is gone. Therefore it was useless....someone was there but no idea who or what they were doing. You can just go to live view and see nothing. This was a great scam by this company to get the ongoing revenue. For that reason, I would suggest looking at another device...not this one and not line this companies pocket books. Its deceptive and does not tell you the loss of function upon purchase.

Awful - DO NOT BUY RING PRO!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I read many of the reviews for the Ring Pro and knew what I was getting into. Having a home automation setup (my entire home is wired) and having been through all the growing pains of the bugs, I thought I would be able to handle some of the bugs with the Ring Pro. I was mistakenly wrong. Upon initial setup, which was quiet easy, everything seemed to work well with the exception of the motion detection. The motion detection was quite weak and only triggered when someone was at my front door. I was able to deal with that with the hopes of future updates would only improve the system. I experienced some of the other issues often complained about such as delay ringing the bell, lag time with the motion detection, etc. Then after a couple days, it no longer rang my chime inside my home when the doorbell was pressed. Tech support is spotty at best with this product. But after several phone calls and emails, they finally suggested I remove the power box. This, for some strange reason, made the chime in my home work when the doorbell was pressed. A few days had passed and the entire system no longer works: door bell will not ring, no motion activity, no chime, and no live view. I pulled the unit off and did a reset and everything was working "normally" again ... but only for about 1.5 days before it went dead again. I think I have reset the Ring Pro at least 5 times in a two week period to keep it working. Taking this unit back for a replacement, but only because I am going out of town. Otherwise, I would go for a straight refund. I don't have much hopes of the replacement working any better, though. If it does, I will update this review to reflect that. This product is nothing but awful. Save yourself the headache and time and look elsewhere.

    Ring Pro Not So Great

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I had the first ring door bel, and worked OK not good but OK. THe motion alerts and software needs improvement no matter what distance you adjusted the area the infrared would pick up vehicles 50 plus feet away. Then I upgraded to the pro hoping motion would improve. First off reaction time is way to long and the person was gone out of site. Did the upgrade to the software 1.0.50 no difference. Motion would work then not work, some days are good some bad. Our wifi is excellent. Speed test is excellent. The real bad thing here the top and bottom video are smaller than the original ring. My front porch is 14 feet wide 10 feet out. With the pro all visibility of the porch is gone. The video is on an angle showing a very small corner of the porch. The first ring visibility of the porch was excellent most all the porch was visible almost to the door. You could see a package on the porch. Now you see nothing except the black bar at the bottom on an angle. The community service has gotten real bad, was within 24 hours or less. Now your lucky you get a email from someone after 3 days or longer plus they have no answer to your problem and give you someone else's email to set up an appt to review your problem. Still waiting for a reply from them to replace the pro due to the camera video on an angle. If the second one is no better I will send both back and put the original back and live with the nuisance of motion until something else better comes along. Frustrated very Frustraded.
