    Constant Issues

When it works, it is great... the key-words being "when it works". Constant issues. Sometimes the image is blank, sometimes it has to be reset, sometimes it never sends a message to your phone that someone is at the door. Not reliable. It was fairly easy to install. Customer service is pretty decent - but the problem is, I have to keep contacting them for one issue or another. Really wish I hadn't purchased it.

The view can still be somewhat dark at times, depending on the time of day and where the sunlight it coming from. They have released some nice shims to give you the ability to angle the camera better. But this came out much later than the initial release, which is when I got mine. It also rendered my existing chime useless (not loud enough to hear) so I had to pick up the Ring Chime.

    Great, while it works.....

The Ring line of products is great on paper. In use, the Ring Doorbell Pro is very good when and while it works. I live in a newer house that had a working Nest Hello doorbell for multiple years, no problem. I replaced it with the Ring thinking I would expand into other Ring products since they have a wider line of products including battery powered security cameras. For a week and a half, the doorbell worked fine, then we had a brief power outage where it lost WIFI connectivity. Not Ring's fault up until here, things happen. I then tried to reconnect WIFI through the app, no go. I then followed the Ring help instructions and powered off my modem and routers and rebooted them and tried again. Nope, would not enter set up mode and got the ubiquitous and dreaded "Ring pulsing white ring of death". Followed help instructions to reboot modem and routers again. Nope. Checked transformer and power and it is 16V on the nose. Tried a hard reset. Removed and reinstalled after letting it sit. Nope. The next steps would include replacing transformer for doorbell which from the help pages is RIng's usual suggestion which I am not going to bother to do since the Nest doorbell worked just fine with this for years and is arguably, a much better device anyway. I could also exchange it for a new Ring doorbell with Best Buy or with Ring directly since I'm still in the return period but I'm not going to do this either since this seems to be a common problem with Ring and I don't care to go through this again. I'm going back to Next which was reliable and looks a lot better. As Ring says, "Rome wasn't built in a day" and I would add, "neither are reliable, solid video doorbells - you better go back to the drawing board".

I have the wired Pro version. Very slow to respond to doorbell rings, by the time it does the caller is gone (even when I'm in the house). When the temperature goes below 32 degrees for 2 days or more, it stops working. Ring has no fix as of Dec. 2018 for this problem.

The pictures are not always clear. The voice feature is nice, but you and the person you're speaking to continually break up during a conversation. You can set up your range of motion, which is nice. If you change the primary user, even accidentally, it will wipe out all previous videos! Even though it is stored in the "cloud" which you are paying for, it will delete them all. Even if you restore the original primary user, you, nor the Ring Cust. Svc. agents or their Technical Specialists, cannot retrieve your videos. Most of the Cust. Service Agents are not helpful. The technical support agents are much better. This product isn't difficult to install, but will only allow one primary user and several shared users. The shared users should expect a delay of 3 or more minutes if there is new activity on their ring pro.

    Light sensitivity is weak

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased the pro for the HD quality. I have a front porch & walls at my front door. The video is constantly black & white. I had called tech support several times about this issue. They had determined that it was because my front door is shaded so the night vision stays on. That means if you don't have an open front or sun directly to your door, your video is going to stay black & white. This light sensitivity issue definitely needs improvement. So I'm paying more money for an HD quality that I don't even have use.

I bought this looking for a security measure and to avoid answering the door for salesmen. The product itself looks good and the package contests are in order. The setup was very easy. The problem was after getting it all wired in. Ring says it needs 16-24 volts to run. I checked prior to install and it was around 18.4 volts. The Ring didn't even power up. I did some research and found that several people had the same issue and found out they needed to upgrade the transformer to 24 volts alone. I picked up a 24 volt transformer and verified it was putting the power out and the Ring still never turned on. I recommend sticking with the original Ring, the pro isn't what it's supposed to be.

    Slow Performance

I really wanted to like this door bell but I had to return it. The issue is there is about a 5 second delay to ring the chime in the house and about 10 seconds to load video on your phone. Then takes another 5 seconds to respond. Most people will not wait 15 seconds for a response. I have 200 Mbps internet with a new router so not sure why the speed issue. Video was also laggy and audio was not understandable. I wish it worked like the commercials, because that would be awesome. The hardwired chime should ring instantly not 5 seconds later.

I've had this installed for about six months and have YET to actually have it work to let me answer the doorbell. It does everything BUT that. It rings, but when I try to answer all I ever get is a little swirly "busy" indicator before the connection fails. It is great at recording cars passing by, but completely misses humans moving right in front of it (I actually had someone steal something sitting 10ft in front of the camera, it caught every car driving by outside of my defined motion zones but completely missed the thief). I've been round and round with tech support and they have no clue; the firmware is up to date, power is perfect, my high-end router is maybe 10ft away, I have gobs of bandwidth, and the stupid thing simply doesn't work when it needs to.

    Not Ready For Prime Time.

I really wanted to like this device but its not ready for prime time. From day one my videos have had audio and video pauses. Recorded videos have a pause in them. You don't get to see how something for from Point A to Point B on recordings. Moving car is in the drive way, pause, now its halfway down the road. It really doesn't help anything. Guy walking up to the porch is on the sidewalk. Then is on the Porch ringing the bell. 3-4 second pauses in the video. I've contacted Ring and they did try to help me. I just don't think this device was ready to be sold as a consumer ready/friendly product. Honestly if I could return it and get my money back I would, but I'm passed the window. So I have a half baked product. Enjoy folks...

      Hi Rebeljt,

Oh no, I am sorry to hear about your less than excellent Ring experience. This is not the experience that we intended for you to have. At this point, I would like to step in and provide you with some additional assistance. Do you happen to know how far your Ring device is from your router? For best streaming performance, we recommend that your Ring device is no further than 30 feet from your router, however, the closer it is the better the performance. Additionally, the way the motion detection on the Ring works is by heat detection. Setting your range this low makes your Ring look for a very large heat signature before it will notify you. Setting up the motion detector does require a bit of maneuvering to find the sweet spot, however, we can assist you with honing these settings to make sure you receive the alerts that matter to you. Would you reach me at Kaitlyn.rosenthal@ring.com today so that we can improve your Ring experience?

      I would appreciate your time.

Worked great for one week then broke

I ordered my ring pro directly from ring.com. I waited a week to install so that all of the software updates were in place. The doorbell worked flawlessly for one week and I was going to give it a 5* review. Then it stopped working. It no longer recognized motion, wouldn't send the alerts to my devices for a doorbell ring or motion, and when I would try to do a live view I would just get a black screen with a spinning circle. The signal at my door is 2-3 bars, which is the same as it was when first installed. Per the website I tried to reset the device. This got it working again for a few minutes and then it stopped working again. After spending an hour and a half trying various troubleshooting methods I gave up and am now returning the doorbell. It's really a shame because we really enjoyed having it for the short time that it worked well. If they ever work out the kinks I would try it again, but not until then.

Jittery picture and it doesn't ring!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

It continuously reports "The video quality for this event is lower than normal". They suggested I buy a range extender ($40). Only after that didn't work did they admit that the frame rate is 15fps -- very jittery and not what I would expect 1080P HD to be. Also, the product does not ring my mechanical doorbell as it should. So I ended up buying a $249 doorbell called "RingPro" that DOESN'T RING!!!

I have return 2 ring video doorbell pro. Ring support has not been able to help me. They have given me different reasons for it not working. I called today when receiving the 3 ring product . It did not work as well. Now ring support tells me it needs more power for it to work . I decided to give it one more chance . They will be sending me another power power pro kit to add in addition to the one I have already installed. I hope this work.

    Motion Detection Runs all night

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I was one of the first to get the new Ring Pro. I took my time making sure I installed it correctly. Unlike the Ring, the Ring Pro has a power boost box you need to install for night vision. The motion and door bell worked ok during the day, with some delays. But my biggest issue is the motion detection at night. The infrared would kick on and off all night which caused the camera to record every minute throughout the night. Needless to say I had hundreds of motion alerts when I woke up the next day. I called the service support line and they said someone would get back to me within 24-48 hours. Three days later, I had not heard back so I returned the Ring Pro to Best Buy for a replacement. I hooked up the new one and could not get it to go through the set up process so I also returned this one for a third Ring Pro. After setting this one up I encountered the same issue. It recorded all night as soon as it became dark. I emailed customer service and they finally responded. They asked me to check some wiring, etc., which I did. It was installed correctly. They agreed it was an issue with the infrared and offered a replacement, but after three units I am done with this "Pro" version. Stay away until they figure out the night vision issues. Way more trouble than it is worth.

Hi Ticker, thank you for purchasing a Ring Pro! Ring Pro was placed in retail stores at an earlier date than requested, however, we're in the process of completing a rollout for a firmware update. This firmware update will alleviate many of the issues you mentioned (including night vision) and you'll enjoy your Ring Pro experience much more once that firmware is loaded to your device. Firmware updates happen over the air, so you won't have to do anything to receive it; your device will search for any new available firmware daily. The updated firmware version is 1.0.29. I apologize about your initial experience of going back and forth but would like to get in touch with you to address any other inquiries you may have, and assist you further. Please reach me at yul@ring.com today. Ring

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I was one of the unfortunate people who purchased this unit on day one. My sentiments echo most of the other bad reviews in here. Here's a few highlights: -physical hardware install is simple - but there's major issues in the software -RING Pro would not connect well to my network even though it saw a strong WiFi signal -RING Pro would not ring my physical doorbell --twice it rang the doorbell with a few second delay -APP won't connect to RING Pro -errors every time I tried to use live view -APP wouldn't let me "delete" the RING Pro so that I could try to reconnect it. -directions never say anything about button on side of RING Pro -I talked to RING tech support for almost an hour and was told it's not worth troubleshooting---that I should just get a new one. They would not cover it since I purchased the unit from Best Buy. So, I immediately purchased a new one on bestbuy.com for local pickup. After receiving a confirmation email I went to Best Buy to pick up the new unit and they didn't have any available. I ended up getting the regular RING (not the pro): It was set up within 3 minutes and works flawlessly. I would like the features and form factor of the Pro so it's unfortunate that they didn't work out the bugs before distribution.
