    Problems on launch

    Posted .

I echo the previous 1 star review. I also have a partially covered entrance and the camera is so dark under those conditions. Instead of setting the exposure for what is in front of the door, the camera seems to want to expose the bright background, causing the image to be completely dark. They should've put an option in the app to set an exposure point, to basically tell the ring what type of lighting and area is most important. Last night, the first night of install, the IR/night mode kept turning on and off randomly. This caused rings motion alert to trigger. Why would its own IR light cause motion alerts?!?!? Also. Once the sun started coming up in the morning, the Ring never came out of night mode. It just stuck there. I literally had to walk up to the doorbell and cover the entire camera for it to realize it is daytime. Don't buy this today wait until all the bugs get worked out. Trust me.

Hi Compguy, thank you for purchasing a Ring Pro! Ring Pro was placed in retail stores at an earlier date than requested, however, we're in the process of completing a rollout for a firmware update. This firmware update will alleviate many of the issues you mentioned (including night vision) and you'll enjoy your Ring Pro experience much more once that firmware is loaded to your device. Firmware updates happen over the air, so you won't have to do anything to receive it; your device will search for any new available firmware daily. The updated firmware version is 1.0.29. I apologize about your initial experience of going back and forth but would like to get in touch with you to address any other inquiries you may have, and assist you further. Please reach me at yul@ring.com today. Ring

The thing has been offline more than online. Connected to a 600 dollar ap with excellent signal strength. 15' and two walls between. When it works it's great. Should be POE though. Wireless sucks.

Has a lot of Issue! Not IOT ready....

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This installs in 15 minutes its 4 wires and drilling two holes I love that. The issue is it does not work. The first one I received took two tech support agents and 90 minutes of my time and having them ask me to lower my firewall to a low security mode for it to connect to my phone after all that the product was defective it was stuck in night vision mode. I ran back to best buy to get a new one wired it up wont connect to my phone. Called tech support this time they said I don't have enough voltage and I need to jump wires on my doorbell transformer if I could find it. Net net this product works in an ideal situation and who knows what that is if you like to talk to tech support and waste an entire afternoon having them throw out random issues then go ahead and purchase this. I feel they have a lot of work to do on their product to make it ready for everyone. We live in a world of connected devices and there will be more and more someone will make this better. I will wait...

    Too many bugs, glitches

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We purchased the Ring Video Doorbell Pro because of ongoing criminal incidents near our home and even on our property. In addition to the delayed alerts that others have noticed, we ran into the following problems: 1. Difficulty with initial setup because our upload speed was too slow. However, the Ring Pro started working shortly after I got off the phone with the first tech rep. Apparently, a firmware update had taken a long time. 2. The setting sun triggered a motion alert. We have a semi-covered porch, so I guess the change in brightness caused it. But even the second tech rep was perplexed. 3. Despite the glitches, we went ahead and purchased cloud storage. We figured delayed video and an oversensitive motion sensor are better than no video. Then the doorbell started ringing every five to ten seconds and there was a loud, continuous buzzing noise from the chime box (the transformer??). That's when the third tech rep told me there was a doorbell chime incompatibility issue. He emailed me some possible solutions to that particular issue, which included buying a new chime kit -- which we did. I replied to the email a few days ago to ask about another issue. I have not heard back from him or any other rep. I called support again today. After I waited forty minutes for a live rep to get on the line, the call automatically timed out with no option to request a return call. While you're on hold, you DO get a couple of prompts to save your place in line if you don't want to remain on hold. Since I'm not all that busy today, I decided to wait. My mistake. I wish we could have gotten the Ring Pro to work or at least have heard back from tech support on the unresolved issue...make that "issues". One of my neighbors raved about Ring products. I'm glad his worked for him. We're going to see if we can find a video doorbell that has better performance.

Great when it works, trouble is that it doesn't

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

When it works right it is fantastic. The problem is that it often doesn't work. It will trigger sometimes when people are walking and sometimes not. To get people walking toward my house I have to make the geo fence way out into the street and then cars going by trigger it. The video quality is nowhere near what it says it is capable of and my internet connection is very good, I have checked that over and over. I even tried to get the chime range extender, but the problem is that it actually degrades the quality, so that definitely didn't help. The most obnoxious thing is that often when people come right up to your house, and especially if they ring the doorbell, it catches a few seconds of video, and then the screen goes black, or the screen freezes. It keeps "recording" for a full minute or so while they are right at your door, but you cannot see what they were doing, and when you replay the video, it just shows a black screen. Often when you go to watch live stream, it will error out as well. I have spoken to their customer support, and the chime range extender was the answer, but it did nothing to help. They also thought the glitching and low quality video was pretty good for 1080p. I mean, it is very clearly not 1080p, I have no idea how they get away with that claim. I will keep it because I guess it is better than nothing, and I am past my return period. However, if I knew it was like this before I purchased, I never would have wasted my money. If you want ten million pointless videos and then have it not work when you actually need it to, this is the camera for you!

    Just not working for me

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have been working with this for 9 days. First I had to change my transformer because is needs at least 16v. Motion detection functions poorly. It does not start recording motion until the person is right up on it, although the walk is 30' long. Also, it has many false motion alerts during the evening and early morning hours. Sometimes it is a car on the street and sometimes there is nothing at all apparent. I have tried different variations of motion zones. The video is dark, way to dark to make out the face of a person at the door. They tell me a firmware update will address this darkness. I am on V. 10.0.50. Support has given me mixed results. I found that after a power outage it stopped working and they tell me I need to reinstall it (add device again.)

covered porch dont buy. Mine has been stuck in night vision contacted ring was told to reset it. Worked fine for a day. Then it happens the next morning. The fancy camera cant differentiate between day or night because it's not getting direct sunlight according to tech support. The fix was to put a light next to my door bell and have it on all day?? I am no genius but that sounds ridiculous. I have emailed the "neighborhood specialist'' that troll on here and say they are going to help you, but I have heard nothing back yet. Which doesn't surprise me. I will not name you. Don't expect any help from ring. This paper weight is going back unfortunately. If you google ring pro stuck in night mode you will see the problems. I gave them a suggestion and we will see if that happens. If they allow you to put the time for sun up and sundown in the app for doorbell to go into color then this should fix the problem. Until there is a fix stay away.

Do not buy this difficult to set up, buggy and ultimately unusable product. It has difficulty connecting to a wifi router that is literally 20 feet away from it. It just shows a black screen instead of useful video and its favorite message is that my phone is having difficulty connecting to the ring network. If you waste your money on this you have only yourself to blame. Spend your money on literally anything else.

This camera lasted approximately 2.5 months. One night I received a notification that someone was at my door but I couldn’t open the video. After an hour and a half on the phone with tech support, they agreed to replace it. I have no faith in the one they sent me lasting any longer so I’m just going to sell it and try something else.

    Disappointed with Ring Doorbell Pro

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Wow, what a total disappointment this product has been. When it is first setup, it works great! But after a few weeks, I have to go back and completely reset it back up from scratch which is very time consuming. It used to be that I could just power cycle the unit at the breaker and it would come back ok. Now it makes me go through the complete setup again. Part of the biggest issue with this device is that the company continuously pushes firmware updates which almost always screws up the doorbell such that you have to setup the unit all over again. The concept of this device is great, but the execution is poor and the programmers of this device should really take note to improve their quality control. My advice is, do not waste your money.

Unit would not stay connected to WiFi, even with extender. Only once or twice did I get pictures from it. It rang the interior bell, but only part of the sequence. It never sent a notice to my iPhone. After several days of trying, and a chat session with Ring (who wouldn't admit there could be something wrong with the unit), I took it out and returned it to Best Buy for refund.

    Worse than a normal doorbell

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The first one lasted 2 days before failing completely. The support people gave me the usual run-around before agreeing to replace the unit. The replacement unit mostly works, but it's still worse than the old dumb doorbell that it replaced. There's several seconds delay between pushing the button on the Ring and the internal chime sounding (despite the two being hardwired together). Phone notifications are unreliable even when connected to the same wifi router as the Ring (and when both the Ring and the phone have strong wifi signals), so if you thought you might be able to wander out of earshot of the doorbell and still know when guests arrive, that's sadly not the case. Setup was extremely frustrating on a Nexus 5x (failed at different points of the process every time, often telling me to "be patient"), but was straightforward on a Nexus 7.

I have had a total of five different Ring Doorbells in the past few years.Ring replaced them pretty easily the first few times, but after awhile they quit wanting to cooperate and will blame your equipment. The doorbells I had failed at two different locations. One I installed personally, and the other one I had professionally installed by an electrician. They both used the transformer recommended by Ring. They admitted having design flaws with the earlier products, but there is still something very wrong. They also recently changed their pricing plans and when my doorbell went offline, I lost my old plan and all of my recorded rings. I decided to switch to another brand and picked it up at BestBuy this week. I'm very happy with the results, and the other brand integrates with my thermostat and other smart home devices. I would stay away from Ring.

    Poor Installation Experience

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

After spending 1.5 hours on an endless loop of connecting to and configuring the doorbell, I gave up. Before installation I confirmed that my wiring provided the correct power voltage. If Ring can't make a doorbell that's as easy to set up as Nest, Sonos, Samsung Smart Things, Netatmo, Echo, Arlo, etc., then they need to go back to the drawing board. I suspect that because Ring requires you to connect your phone's WiFi to the device to set up, and when doing so my phone's poor LTE connection (thanks Verizon) makes downloading slow, the Ring setup process couldn't complete. I tried ten times and won't be calling support. These devices aren't worth long hold times and frustrating conversations with support reps that are less technical than the customer.

The door bell does what it is supposed to, but... The ring button recently fell out of the housing, and doesn't appear to "click" or lock in place when pushed back into the housing. Pay over $200 for another one? I need the Pro due to the width of my door molding. Ring says I'm out of luck since the doorbell is out of warranty. The basic structure of a doorbell should last years, not months.

We have the Ring Doorbell Pro. Worked great for 2 weeks, then started losing signal. First, it was very slow to load the event, then video and audio stopped working. We have contacted Ring more than 12 times. Sometimes we have been on the phone with them for over an hour, while a rep reads instructions from his manual. Ring Support had us unplug router, shut off power to Ring, reinstall. They even sent us a free Wi-Fi extender. Now, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. All other wireless devices work in our home. Our Wi-Fi runs at 15-25 mbps near the door, so that is not an issue. Spectrum came the other day and verified our signal is very good. Ring has blamed our signal, our microwave, and any other excuse they could find. We are going to replace it with another security camera system and return it for a refund.

After almost a week of the doorbell not working and countless calls and time trying to get Ring support to help get the product to allow me to see video when away from home, they first blame it on Best Buy for selling it to me too soon and say they don't have support available. Now they tell me that the product is fine and the problem is that my service provider, T Mobile, doesn't provide a level of service that supports their device. That's funny because I have unlimited data and all of my other remote devices work fine with my phone. Also be prepared for endless alarms from the motion detector.
