I might have gone a different direction if I had understood that, still might. For now ill keep it as a "live doorbell" though, it works just fine. 1080p, but the wide angle, while generally helpful, makes anything more than a few feet away too small for quality recording (ie mostly useless for recording any shady activity).

While the Ring Protect Plan is required in order to have video storage, it also provides other features that may be useful for you.
