The picture quality is great, however, it never detects when FedEx, USPS, UPS drops off a package. Doesn’t make me feel very confident that it is doing it’s job properly. Am I missing something here?

The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) was designed to capture motions based on your specifications to help keep your home secure. We are here today to provide you with solutions that will assist you in finding the best device settings for your home’s environment.
"Package Alerts" are available on you Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) and can alert you when there is a package in designated areas at your device. "Package Alerts" work best with medium-to-large shipping boxes. Envelopes, tubes, small boxes, and food deliveries may not be detected. This feature also relies on "Motion Detection," so make sure you have that feature turned on.
To enable the "Package Alerts" feature in your Ring app, follow these steps:
Open your Ring app.
Go to "Devices" and select a compatible device.
Select "Motion Settings" > "Smart Alerts."
Under the "Package" section:
To turn on and record your package deliveries, select the video icon.
Follow the instructions and create your "Package Zone."
To start getting package alerts, make sure you select the alert icon.
Customize your "Package Zone" by following the on-screen prompts.
Customize your "Package Sensitivity" by following the on-screen prompts.

It essentially becomes a deterrent without a subscription plan. You are not able to store videos for playback. You are only able to jump into 'live view' whenever motion is detected. If you were to miss the notifications even by one minute, you would have no clue what set the camera off in the first place. Let's say, for instance, you were to have someone steal a package. If you missed the notification by one minute, you would have no idea that it was even stolen, and have no proof that it was stolen, nor would you have any identification of the person who did it. One minute would be ample time for someone to grab and dip. If you were to experience a burglary or a home invasion, you would also have no way to identify who did it, which makes the entire thing pointless in my opinion. Of course, given Best Buy's abhorrent return policies, by the time you realize that the free trial includes the features that the Ring camera should have by default, it's too late to return it. I already have a dog as a deterrent, why would I need a Ring camera? I wouldn't buy another product from them and will also think twice about buying anything from Best Buy due to their strict return policy.

Being able to save, download, and review footage captured by your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) is a valuable feature of the Ring Protect Plan. We are happy to hear that you are enjoying the functionality of the device. While subscribed to one of our Ring Protect Plans, you will have access to videos of every motion and live view event. Without this service, you will still receive real-time video alerts on your smartphone and have access to the live view feature.
