We want to ensure that we can answer any questions you may have concerning how the Ring Protect Plans work and how to save/share your videos, when necessary.

Ring gives customers a complimentary 30-day trial with each new Ring device. After the 30-days, you can choose if you would like to purchase a Ring Protect Plan or not. A Ring Protect Plan is not necessary to view real time notifications on your Ring cameras. Without the Ring Protect Plan, you can still use the live view and two-way audio feature, you are still able to see who is at your door and answer motion notifications. In order to see past recorded videos from your ring device, you will need the optional Ring Protect Plan, which starts at $3/month per device or $30/year per device. The Ring Video Doorbell (2020 release) is the next generation of the original Ring Video Doorbell. In addition to new video features such as Near Zone functionality, the 2020 release Video Doorbell boasts 1080p video, improved night vision, improved audio quality and near motion zone detection.



After reading your review, it seems that your Ring Video Doorbell 2020 is having trouble staying connected to your home wifi. When this occurs, we recommend rebooting your wifi modem and router. Since your router and modem are usually the hardest working devices in your house, for optimal performance, you should reboot them about once a month. To reboot routers or modems, follow the instructions below:
Unplug your router or modem from its power supply (don’t just turn it off).
If your router and modem are separate, unplug both of them.
Wait at least 30 seconds, then plug them back in.
Wait for your internet to be restored.

It sounds like you are enjoying the features of your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation), but it sounds like you have some concerns with the video quality of the device. The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) offers 1080p video. Poor video quality is often due to slow internet speeds. We recommend running a wifi speed test using the following steps:

Turn off your mobile phone’s cellular data and connect to the same wifi network as your Ring device.
Open the Ring app.
Tap the menu (☰).
Tap Devices.
Select your device.
Tap Device Health.
Under Tools tap Test Your Wifi.
Tap Start to run a test that will measure your upload and download speed.
Both upload and download speeds should be at least 1 Mbps or greater, but 2 Mbps or above is ideal.

Check the numbers on your wifi speed test. If either your upload or download speed is below 1 Mbps, then you might consider replacing your router (especially if it's older than five years). Contact your internet service provider to learn more about getting newer equipment and faster speeds.

Having this information allows someone to make the best purchasing decision for their needs. The Ring Protect Plan is mentioned on our Ring packaging, on our website, in the welcome email you received upon setting up your device. Your Ring products provide their standard features (instant alerts, live view, and two-way talk) without any subscription. Ring Protect Plans simply offer downloading and sharing video capabilities, for those who want them. We do offer a lite version of the Ring App called Rapid Ring. This is a companion app that is designed to quickly connect you to the live view and to answer notifications seamlessly. The Ring Protect Plan provides valuable capabilities, such as accessing paid features and the ability to save, download, and review footage captured by your Ring device. We can definitely provide you with more information regarding the concern mentioned in your review.

It sounds like there was some confusion regarding the optional Ring Protect Plan. With a Ring Protect Plan, you can save, review, and share video recordings from your Ring devices to your Ring account. Without a Ring Protect Plan, you can still view real-time video for Ring doorbells and cameras and answer doorbell notifications when they happen, but you don’t get video recordings of those events.
