Parts of the setup process are not clear. The physical installation is simple enough but so many variables without better control of the software choices. The device requires an additional Ring doorbell to work completely

      Hello Mike493,

Here at Ring, we have a very wide selection of products. So we feel it is imperative that our customers receive all pertinent information regarding how these function and must be installed, in order to make the best purchasing decision.

We do provide install information to our customers on Best Buy's site under the device specifications, on the Ring website, and instructions included with the device. Also ,the Ring App does display a step-by-step video guide on how all our devices including the Video Doorbell (2020), during the setup process.

The Video Doorbell (2020 release) has 1080p HD video (vs 720p HD on the original Ring Video Doorbell), an additional “near” motion zone that provides motion detection in areas only 5’-15’ in front of your home, and a revamped mounting setup that simplifies installation and removal for battery charging. The new Video Doorbell also has improved audio quality, crisper night vision, and improved wifi connectivity: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041190711-Ring-Video-Doorbell-2020-release-Information.

Ring Community launched in March 2019 to help deliver the most current news and educational information to our customers. You can find tips and tricks from other Ring users at https://community.ring.com/. This peer-to-peer forum allows our neighbors to share their feedback and experiences to assist each other in resolving their concerns.

At first, everything is great. Good connection, quick notifications… and then, over time, the connection gets worse and worse until it “looses the WiFi” even though nothing has changed about the network. Then, as if by magic, you’re offered the opportunity to buy a “Ring Pro Range Extender” for an additional $50. Shady, even for Amazon. Save yourselves the hassle and buy something else.

      Hello SadDoorbelllesCondoOwner,

We are happy to have you as a part of the Ring Community, and thank you for sharing your Ring experience with us. When using the Ring Video Doorbell (2020 release), one should be able to connect to the camera in a matter of seconds. This counts when initiating a Live View as well as when motion is detected or someone pushes the doorbell button.

Rest assured, our team is here to help diagnose and resolve this together. Although distance plays a big part in the overall connectivity and quality of the live video, there are other factors to consider. Nearby interference, network limitations, or a combination of both can also affect your doorbell's ability to connect to quality video in a timely manner. For example, if your doorbell is mounted on a surface that is made out of heavy-duty materials, an otherwise strong signal may diminish as it passes through those. Materials such as metal, brick, and cement could prove to be a challenge. Do you happen to have your doorbell mounted on or near something like this?

Our priority is ensuring you to have a device you can rely on to keep you connected to activity around your home. Please reach out to us today at https://community.ring.com/ for additional tips and support. Ring Community launched in March 2019 to help deliver the most current news and educational information to our customers. You have to pay monthly even to record videos after 1 month trial. It wasn't mentioned clearly. Even cheaper competitions save video history without extra pay. I wouldn't buy it again. Picture and video quality not better than others. Too pricey.

      Hi Peter!

At Ring, we believe it is imperative that our customers receive all pertinent information regarding additional benefits they have the option to subscribe to, such as the Ring Protect Plan. Having this information allows one to make the best purchasing decision for their needs.

We do provide information about the optional Ring Protect Plan on our Ring website, which you can find here: https://ring.com/protect-plans?undefined. Your Ring App will also notify you during the free 30-day trial of our cloud plan, as well as in an email after a successful setup of a Ring device. With the optional Ring Protect Plans, you have the ability to review, save and share your video recordings for as little as $3 a month. Your Ring videos are stored in the cloud for up to 60 days (in the US). Without a plan, you will still receive real time motion and ring alerts, as well as have access to the Ring live view feature.

We would love to look into the concerns you are having with the resolution of your Ring Video Doorbell (2020 Release), as you should be experiencing a clear 1080p HD resolution video. From our Help Center, you can find great articles with helpful tips and tricks that might assist you in resolving video concerns, such as the one linked here: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/205348254-Poor-Video-Quality-Troubleshooting.

We would love to get connected with you as soon as possible, to address these concerns together!

      Caitlin with Ring Ring

      Hi Issa.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand how important it is to have your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) capture all the correct motion events. The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) was designed to capture motions based on your specifications to help keep your home secure. We are here to provide you with some information to resolve the issue you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like the device is not performing as expected. It is important to ensure that you have the proper motion settings in place for your environment. This camera uses adjustable motion detection and runs on passive infrared sensors. The system identifies visitors via a moving heat signature and sends a notification to your smart device when one is detected. You can adjust three preset motion zones and their distances under the "Motion Settings" tab on the device's page in the Ring app. Additionally, you can choose how often the camera checks for movement in those predefined zones via the "Motion Frequency" setting. If you find that your camera is missing some motions, please set the motion frequency to "Frequently."

Accuracy in motion detection can also be improved by enabling the "Smart Alerts" feature for people only in your Ring app. To enable "Smart Alerts," please follow these steps:
Tap the menu (≡) on the top left.
      Tap "Devices."
Tap the device that you want to adjust.
      Tap "Motion Settings."
      Tap "Smart Alerts."
      Tap "Enable Feature."
      Tap "Continue."
Select the notification options that you want for "Person" and "Other Motion."
You'll see a video camera where you can select or de-select recording and a bell icon to represent alert notifications.
After you've adjusted your settings, tap "Done."

If any additional information is needed regarding your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.), please reach out to our community. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their feedback and experiences directly with Ring. It doesn’t catch everything and there was a glitch. Also if you miss the subscription it’s difficult to have . For the cost and the hype I expected better. I switched from blink which is significantly less expensive and was better the customer service just sucked. I don’t pay for subscription because it’s not really worth it because I can’t catch everything. Totally missed cars coming in my driveway it was a lot
