    Doesn’t work for apartments

Doesn’t work for apartments unless you have your own wifi and router. I couldn’t connect it to my apartments wifi because we all use the same wifi. Called customer support and was told there was no solution unless I bought my own router. Bought a Blink instead and have had no issues so far. Giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because it’s aesthetically pleasing. Too bad I can’t use it.

Hi Cecilia. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand the importance of a seamless setup process so that you can begin using your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) right away. The features and technology provided by the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We can definitely provide you with more information regarding the concern mentioned in your review.

It sounds like the device is not operating as expected. With Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation), stay connected to your home from anywhere by seeing who’s at your door and answering it right from the Ring app. Enjoy enhanced features like upgraded video quality from 720p HD to 1080p HD, Near Zone motion detection in areas as close as 5 to 15-feet in front of your home and a reimagined mounting setup that simplifies installation.

Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) is compatible with b/g/n wifi networks operating on 2.4 GHz frequencies. High speed internet is recommended. If your Ring device is having trouble connecting, the Ring app will show an error with a code that will help you with your issue.

Here are a few top reasons for poor connectivity:
Your Ring device may be too far from your wifi router
Your mobile device has a low signal or poor connection
Your home wifi connection is poor (or your internet service provider is experiencing high traffic.)
If your Ring device is far from your wifi router, it may be experiencing connection issues

To learn more about your device's signal strength, follow these steps:
      Open the Ring app.
      Tap the menu (☰).
      Tap Devices.
Select the Ring device you would like to test.
Tap on the Device Health tile.
Scroll to Signal Strength under the Network section.
The green, amber, red colors are indicators of your device connection. Green is good, red is poor.
Move your wifi router off the floor.

Walls, floors, and furniture can interfere or weaken your router's wireless signal. Choose an elevated, central, open location for your wifi router.

      Check your mobile device's signal.

If your mobile device has one or two bars, this could be causing issues to access your Ring device. For best results, make sure you're connected to wifi, from wherever you are.

We have listed the steps below for how to check your wifi speed:

Most internet service providers range from 100-400mbps (megabytes per second) for download speed and 10-100mbps for uploading. We recommend testing your internet connection 15 feet from your wifi router, using websites like this one.

If your wifi speed is falling below the ranges noted above, we recommend contacting your internet service provider.

If any additional information is needed regarding your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen), please reach out to our Community. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their feedback and experiences directly with Ring.

      Sincerely, Ring

    Not good in cold weather

When it’s really cold outside, my ring camera keeps disconnecting and I keep having to bring it in the house to let it warm up and then reconnect it. I’m looking for a different camera service. Also it’s hard to relocate the ring camera if you move or reassign it to someone else if you decide you don’t want it anymore.

      Hi Beatrice.

Thank you for sharing your concerns with us.

We understand the importance of having a device that works in all weather, and that can easily be transferred to a different owner if need be. The features and technology provided by the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We are here today to provide you with education to assist you in finding the best solution for your home’s environment.

It sounds like the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) is not working consistently in its current environment, and you want to transfer ownership to somebody else.

The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) is weather-resistant and can withstand temperatures ranging from -5 degrees F to 120 degrees F. Extremely cold weather has unfortunate effects on lithium-ion batteries, such as those used in Ring devices. As the temperature drops, these batteries begin to have trouble holding a charge, and if it gets cold enough, they'll stop working altogether. As a result, at certain temperatures, the batteries in your Ring device may run out of power faster than expected and may need to be recharged more often. Visit our support center for additional details on how cold weather impacts your device.

To release ownership of a Ring device if you're moving, gifting, or selling your Ring device, follow these steps:

      1. Open the Ring app via iOS (Apple) or Android.
      2. Tap the three lines (≡) on the top left corner of your Dashboard.
      3. Tap devices.
      4. Select the device you want to release from your ownership.
      5. Tap Device Settings.
      6. Tap General Settings.
      7. Select "Remove this Device."

The device will be immediately available to a new owner. Complete this process individually for all devices that you want to release. We also recommend completing this process even if the device is still installed and left behind after a home sale.

I loved this! Great video quality. I bought 2 more ring cameras because I liked it so much. However it has now quit working. Says there are problems with my internet connection. All the new devices connect. I've unplugged, reset, and moved my modem several times with no luck. I also tried to connect to another wifi source and it still says there is a problem with my connection. Very disappointed!

      Hello Tonya,

We appreciate that you have placed value in owning a Ring device to secure your home. Ring understands the importance of having the Ring Video Doorbell 2020 work as intended. It is a valuable device that is designed to notify you as to who may be near your home. Please know that it is a priority for us to be of assistance and find a resolution to your concern.

The Ring Video Doorbell (2020 release) is the next generation of the original Ring Video Doorbell. In addition to new video features such as Near Zone functionality, the 2020 release Video Doorbell boasts 1080p video, improved night vision, improved audio quality and near motion zone detection.

After reading your review, it seems that your Ring Video Doorbell 2020 is having trouble staying connected to your home wifi. When this occurs, we recommend rebooting your wifi modem and router. Since your router and modem are usually the hardest working devices in your house, for optimal performance, you should reboot them about once a month. To reboot routers or modems, follow the instructions below:
Unplug your router or modem from its power supply (don’t just turn it off).
If your router and modem are separate, unplug both of them.
Wait at least 30 seconds, then plug them back in.
Wait for your internet to be restored.

Here is a helpful article which walks you through additional steps to take if the issue still persists for you after your modem/router reboot: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/217240386-In-app-Setup-Failing-Repeatedly.
Additionally, if you have not already, please check out our Ring Community forum where other Ring users, like yourself, have an open discussion platform to share their experiences, as well as solutions to issues experienced: https://community.ring.com/.

Thank you, Jamila with Ring Ring

I also got the door holder because I'm in an apartment. It's extremely reliable it catches just about everything, the only downside is there is a few second delay. The battery lasted for over a month from 100% down to 30% and then I charged it at 30%. Definitely interested in investing in more ring products. This item is a highly recommended item.

Hi there, it's definitely important to be able to rely on your Video Doorbell to see visitors at your door. Often times, it can take a bit of trial and error to find which motion settings work best for you. Try adjusting the Motion Zones and Motion Sensitivity to see if you can find a combination that fits your preferences. It's also important to ensure that your Doorbell has a strong signal from your wifi router for optimal performance. You can learn more here https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/217271526-Checking-Wifi-Signal-Strength. If you have any additional questions, feel free to check out the Ring Community https://community.ring.com/ to find answers from other neighbors. Best wishes, Ashley from Ring. Ring
