      Tap the "Menu" (☰).
      Tap "Devices."

      Hi Lmbr.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

We understand the importance of timely notifications and a lasting battery for your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation). The features and technology provided by the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We are here today to provide you with solutions that will assist you in finding the best device settings for your home’s environment.

It sounds like you have some concerns with the motion detection and battery life of your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation). The proper placement of your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) will be vital in the motion detection of the device. One of the biggest mistakes people make is mounting their Ring doorbell too high. The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) should be mounted at approximately 48 inches above the ground for optimal performance. If your device is mounted too high, you're more likely to catch the heat of passing cars than the heat of incoming visitors.

The motion sensors in your Ring Video Doorbell are designed to detect motion up to 155 degrees horizontally and from five to 25 feet outward from the fixture. Once you've confirmed the device is mounted at the proper height, you should start receiving more accurate motion notifications.

The rechargeable battery in your device can go months between recharges with normal use. This is dependent on a number of factors in your home’s environment, such as the local weather and the number of activities captured. Proper positioning and more accurate motion detection can help with battery life. Visit our support center for more information.

Ring Community was established to assist in providing our neighbors with the most recent news and instructional material. Hi EricaG.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

We understand the importance of having a consistent wifi signal for the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation). Having a solid connection ensures you do not miss any activity at your door. We are here to provide you with some information to resolve the connectivity issue you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like your device is losing its connection to your home's wifi. If your device is continually falling offline, the problem is almost always related to poor wifi connectivity caused by signal fluctuations, channel congestion, or data loss.

To determine whether or not the problem is caused by poor upload speed, run a speed test to see if your network can support Ring devices. Ring devices with 1080p displays require at least 1 Mbps upload and download speeds, though 2 Mbps is recommended for optimal performance.

You can also check for poor signal strength. A poor wifi signal can cause connectivity with your Ring device to be unreliable. Check the Device Health section of your Ring application to ensure the device’s RSSI is within an acceptable range. The recommended range for optimal performance is 0 to -60 for the RSSI.

Ring Community was launched to help deliver the most current news and educational information to our neighbors. Good price & like the product. Sorry to only give only 2 stars for this but the battery issue is why. Not the fault of Best Buy. When using Ring connected to the doorbell power, it will not charge the battery in cold weather (below 20° F). If you live in an area where it gets this cold or colder and it stays that way for days or weeks, you will have to remove the battery and recharge it every week until warmer weather returns.

      Hi BigT,

Thank you for bringing this concern up, as this is an important factor to consider when you live in colder climates. You noted that the battery would not charge on your Ring Video Doorbell (2020 release) in cold weather. When the battery is too hot or too cold on-board software will keep it from charging to avoid damaging the battery. Bring the battery inside and allow it to change to room temperature before trying to recharge the battery.

It sounds like this is impacting your experience, and I would love the opportunity to help improve that for you. Please reach out to us, so we may address this concern with you directly, and find a solution that works best for you and your environmental needs.

      Hello Wazii14,

We appreciate that you have placed value in owning a Ring device to secure your home. Ring understands the importance of having the Ring Video Doorbell 2020 work as intended. It is a valuable device that is designed to notify you as to who may be near your home. Please know that it is a priority for us to be of assistance and find a resolution to your concern.

The Ring Video Doorbell (2020 release) is the next generation of the original Ring Video Doorbell. In addition to new video features such as Near Zone functionality, the 2020 release Video Doorbell boasts 1080p video, improved night vision, improved audio quality and near motion zone detection.

After reading your review, it seems that your Ring Video Doorbell 2020 is having trouble staying connected to your home wifi. When this occurs, we recommend rebooting your wifi modem and router. Since your router and modem are usually the hardest working devices in your house, for optimal performance, you should reboot them about once a month. To reboot routers or modems, follow the instructions below:
Unplug your router or modem from its power supply (don’t just turn it off).
If your router and modem are separate, unplug both of them.
Wait at least 30 seconds, then plug them back in.
Wait for your internet to be restored.

Here is a helpful article which walks you through additional steps to take if the issue still persists for you after your modem/router reboot: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/217240386-In-app-Setup-Failing-Repeatedly.
Additionally, if you have not already, please check out our Ring Community forum where other Ring users, like yourself, have an open discussion platform to share their experiences, as well as solutions to issues experienced: https://community.ring.com/.

      Hello Safeway,

We are happy to have you as a part of the Ring Community, and thank you for sharing your experience with us! Ring knows the importance of having the motion detection work as intended. It is a valuable feature that is designed to notify you as to who may be near your home. Please know that it is a priority for us to be of assistance and find a resolution to your concern.

All battery-powered Ring devices, including the Ring Video Doorbell (2020 Release), use passive infrared (PIR) sensors to detect motion. Adjustable motion zones work by identifying visitors based on a change in temperature, and sending a signal to your smart device when it detects one. You can control the sensors' range and sensitivity using the controls in the Ring app. It is also optimized for low-power operations to save on battery power.

Please reach out to us directly via our community forum at https://community.ring.com. We are confident, with a few changes, we can get the device to function as it is intended to and provide you and your family a sense of security.

      Hi LayneP.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We understand the importance of having a solid charge on your Ring device so that you can have a longer time between charge cycles. It is critical for a home security device to have enough power to keep your device online and ready to protect you. We are here today to provide you with education to assist you in finding the best solution for your home’s environment.

It sounds like the battery is draining quickly on your device. The batteries in Ring devices are designed to go months between charges under normal conditions. However, real battery life is dependent on a number of factors, such as local weather, the number of events captured, and the frequency of activation.

The more events captured by your Ring devices, the more the battery is used. Using Live View often can also drain your battery faster. If your device is capturing an excessive number of events each day, you may need to recharge your battery sooner. To prevent excessive activity, you can adjust your Motion Settings to a lower sensitivity, disable certain zones, change the motion frequency to regularly or periodically, or adjust the direction of your Ring device so it doesn't detect as much motion.

Ring Community was launched to help deliver the most current news and educational information to our neighbors.
