      Hi Aboogie22,

Your Ring Video Doorbell (2020 Release) is built with a 155 degree horizontal by 90 degree vertical field-of-view, which should accurately detect motion using the PIR sensors. If you feel you are not receiving a proper view from your Ring Doorbell, we may want to address the height at which your device has been placed.

To get the most out of motion detection and the doorbell's field-of-view, we recommend mounting your doorbell around 49 inches from the ground. If you would like to visit our webpage for more information on mounting, we recommend this article as a helpful guide: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360040763812-Proper-Positioning-for-your-Ring-Video-Doorbell-2020-release-.

Additionally, your Ring Video Doorbell (2020 Release) should be providing you with a clear 1080p HD resolution video when capturing your motion events and doorbell dings. We would love to investigate this concern with you further, as this may be related to wifi connection.

You can also find great suggestions regarding these concerns from other Ring users like yourself on our Ring Community page at Ring.com: https://community.ring.com/.

We hope to hear from you soon,
      Caitlin with Ring Ring

    Not great connectivity to Wifi

Device disconnects from WiFi for unknown reasons (nothing else in household has a problem and device is not far from router). Sometimes reconnects on its own after 24 hours. Considering a return if is happens again.

      Hi Jojogirl.

Thank you for taking a moment to share your experience with us.

At Ring, we understand it is essential to have your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) online and working properly so you can keep your home secure. The features and technology provided by the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We are eager to provide you with a solution for the wifi connectivity concern mentioned in your review.

It sounds like your device is losing its wifi connection. Usually, devices falling offline repeatedly is related to poor wifi connectivity caused by signal fluctuations, channel congestion, or data loss.

A poor wifi signal can cause connectivity with your Ring device to be unreliable. Check the Device Health section of your Ring application to ensure the device’s RSSI is within an acceptable range. The recommended range for optimal performance is 0 to -60 for the RSSI.

Visit our support center for tips and tricks to improve your device's connectivity.

      Hello Slade,

Thank you for taking the time to share your Ring experience with us. We appreciate that you have placed value on owning a Ring device to secure your home. Ring understands the importance of having the motion detection and battery work as intended. It is a valuable feature that is designed to notify you as to who may be near your home. Please know that it is a priority for us to be of assistance and find a resolution to your concern.

After reading your review, it seems that your Ring Video Doorbell is not picking up the correct motion. The Ring Video Doorbell (2020 release) is the next generation of the original Ring Video Doorbell. In addition to new video features such as Near Zone functionality, the 2020 release of the Video Doorbell boasts 1080p video, improved night vision, improved audio quality, and near motion zone detection. If you are having trouble with your device picking up the correct motion, We recommend adjusting your motion settings and zones. Motion Zones allow you to define a specific area that you want your Ring device to cover while ignoring everything outside that area. By selecting Motion Zones to cover only the areas you want the Ring device to monitor, you can effectively monitor the area you want as well as reduce the number of "false positive" motion alerts. For more information on adjusting your motion settings to better fit your needs, please see our help center article titled: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041248971-Using-Motion-Zones-with-your-Ring-Video-Doorbell-2020-release-.

Hi there. I'm glad to hear that your Video Doorbell is providing you with some peace of mind. Ring Video Doorbells and Security Cameras do not record continuously. They will record when motion is detected, when someone rings the Doorbell, or when you activate the Live View. With an active Ring Protect Plan subscription, these videos can be viewed in the Ring app from your Event History. For more information, check out this article from our Help Center https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001671383-General-Information-on-Ring-Protect-Subscription-Plans. Hello Pamar,

Thank you for bringing your notification concern to our attention. As Ring users ourselves, we understand what a large impact this feature has on your home security, and peace of mind. Notification delays can occur for a variety of reasons.

You can try the steps in this support article if Ring notifications sent to your Android device are delayed, or if you aren’t receiving them at all: https://ring.com/support/articles/vll73/Troubleshoot-Ring-Notification-Issues-for-Android-Devices. If you recently updated the Ring app and your push notifications are no longer working, we recommend uninstalling the Ring app, then reinstalling it. Some Android devices may have a limit on how many notifications appear per app, and clearing any previous notifications could help.

Works fine. Battery dies pretty quickly. The most annoying thing about this product is that you won’t be allowed to review videos it takes without signing up for their stupid subscription service. Which of course defeats the purpose and they give you a trial so you don’t realize you need the subscription service to view videos until the trial runs out, and then it’s too late to return the stupid thing. Do not waste your money!

Hello Rachel, Thank you so much for showing interest in our products and desiring to have more information regarding the optional Ring Protect Plan subscription. We want to ensure that we can answer any questions you may have concerning how the Ring Protect Plans work and how to save/share your videos, when necessary. Ring gives customers a complimentary 30-day trial with each new Ring device. After the 30-days, you can choose if you would like to purchase a Ring Protect Plan or not. A Ring Protect Plan is not necessary to view real time notifications on your Ring cameras. Without the Ring Protect Plan, you can still use the live view and two-way audio feature, you are still able to see who is at your door and answer motion notifications. In order to see past recorded videos from your ring device, you will need the optional Ring Protect Plan, which starts at $3/month per device or $30/year per device. The setup instructions be found both in the Ring app and in the instructions included with the packaging, but it can be confusing if you have not set up any Ring devices before. Once the Doorbell is setup, the operation of it within the Ring app should go smoothly. Mount in place of existing doorbell? No!!!!

Wow! What a disappointment. Haven't even been able to install my unit yet. Apparently no-one that designed this to go with an existing doorbell actually looked at existing doorbell mounts. My doorbell has the standard outlet-plate type cover with a button. Behind this is an industry standard electrical 1-gang mounting box. There is NO WAY to mount the provided Ring "easy to use" mounting plate onto the existing standard electrical box. After 75 minutes on the phone with their very polite tech support, they agreed that they had never even been told about this and that I should mount it someplace else (requiring re-routing the wires and covering the unsightly doorbell hole) Their documentation in the package has no instruction on how to remove the pre-mounted plate from the unit. It is not obvious, very tight, and according to many users online, required anything from a credit card to a butter knife to actually execute. The BB product page must have something n there somewhere about the required monthly fee if you want to be able to record any video, but I could not find it. Overall a disappoint experience with a poorly designed and documented product.

      Hi FrankL.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

We understand the importance of having all relevant product information prior to purchasing. The features and technology provided by the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We can definitely provide you with more information regarding the concern mentioned in your review.

It sounds like there is some confusion regarding the setup and installation of your device. The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) can be installed with or without an existing doorbell system.

You will want to fully charge the built-in battery prior to setting it up by plugging it into a USB power source using the provided orange cable. When only one of the two LEDs on the battery is lit, the battery is fully charged. Once it is fully charged, you should set it up in the Ring app before mounting it to your home. Once you've set it up, it can be hardwired to an existing doorbell system or transformer with 8–24 VAC, 40 VA max, and 50–60 Hz for continuous charging.

      Hello Ronh,

We know how important it is to be able to see and speak to the person that is at your door. The doorbell is intended to provide you access to the camera for your peace of mind. Here at Ring, we take your security and peace of mind seriously. Please know that we are here to ensure that we can find a resolution together.

Poor video quality can be attributed to the wifi/bandwidth connection. One of the most important measurements in your Ring security network is the strength of your wifi signal. You may run a special connectivity test at any time to see if a bad wifi connection is responsible for problems with your device. We have included step by step instructions below:

      -Open Ring app
      -Hamburger Menu/ 3 Lines
      -Select Devices
      -Select a Ring device
      -Select Device Health
-Select "Test your Wifi" under the Tools Section
      -Tap "Start test
-Once the test is done, Enter your Results from the Speed test

Sometimes, even with high internet speeds, the connection is not as strong at the location of the Ring device. Also Ring Community was launched to help deliver the most current news and educational information to our neighbors. This online forum is divided into four categories: Product Boards, Ring Updates, Tips + Tricks, and a Moderators’ Corner. The Product Boards are where you can begin new topics with your questions or feedback; there is also a search option which helps you find topics that were already posted by other neighbors. We invite you to visit our site at https://community.ring.com/ today!

      Thank you,
      Antonio from Ring Ring
