Hello DanielG. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We understand how critical it is for your Ring Video Doorbell to detect motion accurately so that you can be alerted within the Ring app to any motion activity around your home. Rest assured, we are here today to provide you with some information in order to ensure you get the most out of your motion detection! We are confident we can find a solution that works well for you and your home’s environment.

I would be happy to address your concern regarding the issue that you are experiencing with the delay in motion detection of your Ring Video Doorbell. It is important to ensure that you have the proper motion settings in place for your environment. This includes increasing the "Motion Sensitivity" and setting "Motion Frequency" to "Frequently" in the Ring app. To optimize your motion zones and ensure that the device will detect accurately, please follow these steps:
      Open the Ring app.
Tap the menu (≡) on the top left.
      Tap Devices.
      Tap the relevant device.
      Tap Motion Settings.
At the top, tap Edit Zones or scroll down to tap Camera Motion Zones.
Note: If you are using a battery-powered device, you may need to toggle on Advanced Motion Detection under Advanced Settings before you can add customizable Motion Zones.
To adjust an existing Motion Zone: tap the Zone you want to adjust, then drag the points of the Zone to do so. Tap Save.
To add a new Motion Zone: tap Add Zone and drag the points of the Zone. Tap Save.

Accuracy in motion detection can also be improved by enabling Smart Alerts for people only in your Ring app.

      To enable Smart Alerts:

Tap the menu (≡) on the top left.
      Tap Devices.
Tap the device that you want to adjust.
      Tap Motion Settings.
      Tap Smart Alerts.
      Tap Enable Feature.
      Tap Continue.
Select the notification options that you want for Person and Other Motion.
You'll see a video camera where you can select or de-select recording and a bell icon to represent alert notifications.
After you've adjusted your settings tap Done.

If any additional information is needed regarding your Ring Video Doorbell question, please reach out to our community team. The Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another by sharing their feedback and experiences with each other.

Hi Reid. Having to frequently charge your Video Doorbell can impact your peace of mind, so I'd be happy to help out. When it comes to unexpected battery drain in your Doorbell, a good place to start for troubleshooting suggestions is our Help Center article here: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/4405531384468-How-to-Fix-Unexpected-Battery-Drain-in-Your-Ring-Video-Doorbell-or-Security-Camera. There are different potential causes for increased battery drain such as the weather, the activity your Doorbell receives, and an unstable wifi connection. The article I shared can help you narrow down which of these causes you may be experiencing so you can get the most out of your Doorbell. For any additional questions, check out the Ring Community at https://community.ring.com/, our peer-to-peer forum where you can interact with other neighbors. Best, Ashley from Ring. Ring

I wanted to like this product, but it is horrible. As soon as the 30 day trial ended it started acting erratically. I have wasted a ton of time with Ring customer service. The motion detection now constantly goes off for no reason. No amount of adjustment corrects the issue. Even if I hard reset the device, it does not work correctly. I recommend spending your money on another product.

Hi savvyone. It's important to be able to rely on your Video Doorbell to see who is at your door. If your Doorbell is disconnecting from the internet, try reviewing the information in our Help Center article here: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/217271526-Understanding-RSSI-Values-and-Wifi-Signal-Strength. The connection to your Doorbell may not be stable, which can cause it to disconnect from the wifi. Moving the router closer to your Doorbell or using a wifi extender can improve the stability of the connection. Hello Junior,

The Ring Video Doorbell (2020 Release) is a battery powered device. By using one, you can expect timely Ring alerts, accurate motion detection and the ability to see and speak with visitors. We're happy to help you get the most out of your Ring doorbell.

This particular model charges via the included USB cable. When removing to charge, the mounting bracket will remain fixed to the wall. Once charged, one can simply reattach the doorbell to its bracket and fasten the security screws.

For those who prefer a Ring Quick Release Battery, we recommend the Ring Video Doorbell 3 or Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus.

Please contact us when you get a spare moment. We'd like to discuss this in greater detail and help find the best solution for you.
