It doesn't do well all the time, especially in the cold. It doesn't always record, the recording is often breaking up, the alerts are kind of low in tone, and it often starts recording late. It would be nice if it came with double sided tape to attach it to property where you are not allowed to drill holes in to hold the base in place. I do like that it is battery operated, that is very convenient, and it does add more security and peace of mind.

      Hi IvetteD.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand how important it is for your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) to function consistently and reliably, so you are alerted to any wanted or unwanted activity in or around your home. The features and technology provided by the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We can definitely provide you with more information regarding the concerns mentioned in your review.

It sounds like the device is not performing as expected. With Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation), stay connected to your home from anywhere by seeing who’s at your door and answering it right from the Ring app. Enjoy enhanced features like upgraded video quality from 720p HD to 1080p HD, Near Zone motion detection in areas as close as 5 to 15-feet in front of your home and a reimagined mounting setup that simplifies installation.

As cold weather sets in, lithium-ion batteries like those used in Ring Doorbells and Security Cameras may experience several issues including trouble holding a charge, running out of power faster than normal, or losing functionality. Knowing at what temperature batteries will start to be impacted can help you take the necessary steps to keep your device working. When the temperature drops to:

36°F (3°C): The battery may not hold a charge as effectively, resulting in having to charge the unit more frequently.
32°F (0°C): The battery may not charge at all. Even hardwired configurations may not charge the battery.
-5°F (-20.5°C): The battery may stop working completely until temperatures warm up.

When it gets cold and your device's battery runs out, bring your entire device inside and charge the battery with a USB cord. This will allow your device to warm up while the battery charges.

We recommend the Ring No-Drill Mount for use if you do not wish to drill holes in your wall. The No-Drill Mount uses double-sided adhesive to attach the plate to your wall so you can securely screw your Ring Video Doorbell directly onto the mounting plate — no power tools required.

We invite you to reach out to our Community if any additional information is needed regarding your question. The Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another by sharing their feedback and experiences with each other.

      Thank you,

So I bought this about 3 months. Overall I'm not satisfied with Ring at all for what you have to pay for on top of the yearly subscription to have full access of it. the video quality for claiming to be 1080p is not that at all by any means. you usually see it as 780 or lower, on top of this I have to deal with the app on my phone disconnecting from it almost every week which includes not receiving any notifications on my phone and even sometimes doesn't even record or turn on when a person is in front of it. Honestly you're better off spending the extra $50 that you would be spending for your yearly subscription on buying a actually security camera system with multiple cameras and better quality.

Don't buy Ring Doorbell. Known defects in product

Don’t buy Ring Doorbell. This product has known flaws by the company, and they refuse to do anything to fix the product. Do not buy Ring Doorbell if you live in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Parts of New York, Iowa, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, Alaska, All Canada, Upper Illinois, Ohio, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and anywhere else in the world where the temperature gets cold. 10 Degree or colder and Ring Doorbell will not work. I called Ring Doorbell and they said their batteries do not work in the cold and they refuse to do anything to address the problem. They tell you your just out of luck wait until the temperature warms up and the Ring Doorbell should work again. Also, the battery should charge when wired to your old doorbell, but it doesn’t. Ring doorbell says you must bring the battery inside and charge the battery because it won’t charge if hard wired to your existing doorbell. What a poorly designed product. Ring Doorbell should be held accountable for selling a known defective and poor product that they know will not work if it gets cold. They should not be allowed to sell the product in any of the states listed above since they know the product will not work when it gets cold. Ring Doorbell are criminals and need to be held accountable for selling products that they know will not work.

      Hello

We appreciate you leaving a review. We understand how important it is to ensure that the battery is holding its proper charge and how cumbersome recharging the batteries can be. Please know that we are here to resolve these concerns with you today.

Based on your review, it seems that you are experiencing frequent battery drainage. While batteries in Ring devices can go months between recharges with normal use, this is dependent on a number of factors in your home’s environment, such as the local weather and the number of activities captured. This article will detail some of the factors that may cause your battery to require more frequent recharges: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/208190773. We would also like to note that the Ring Video Doorbell 2020 works in temperature conditions of -5ºF to 120ºF (-20ºC to 48ºC).

We appreciate that you have placed value in owning a Ring device to secure your home and know it's important that it meets your expectations. Please visit our community forum at https://community.ring.com/, as we have some additional solutions we'd love to share with you.

Within two weeks of installing this, it didn’t detect deliveries at my door. They appear like phantoms. I’ve spoken to Ring customer service four times without success. First Ring said it was due to my software needing an upgrade. It wasn’t. The next person said it was a setting and that in order to save the battery it would sleep through the deliveries (that’s dumb since the whole purpose is to be notified of deliveries). It wasn’t that. The third theory was the device didn’t like my patio. So I moved it as they instructed. That was worse. On the fourth try I got a new one. No luck. I even got the WiFi extender. I wish I was writing about a better experience. I’m sure it’s a good product but not for me. The last straw was a delivery of a lawn mower that wasn’t detected. I just wish I would have purchased it at Costco so that I could get my money back to buy something else.

      Hello Skip,

Thank you for taking the time to share your Ring experience with us. We appreciate that you have placed value in owning a Ring device to secure your home. Ring understands the importance of having the motion detection and battery work as intended. It is a valuable feature that is designed to notify you as to who may be near your home. Please know that it is a priority for us to be of assistance and find a resolution to your concern.

After reading your review, it seems that your Ring Video Doorbell is not picking up the correct motion. The Ring Video Doorbell (2020 release) is the next generation of the original Ring Video Doorbell. In addition to new video features such as Near Zone functionality, the 2020 release Video Doorbell boasts 1080p video, improved night vision, improved audio quality and near motion zone detection. If you are having trouble with your device picking up the correct motion. We recommend adjusting your motion settings and zones. Motion Zones allow you to define a specific area that you want your Ring device to cover while ignoring everything outside that area. By selecting Motion Zones to cover only areas you want the Ring device to monitor, you can effectively monitor the area you want as well as reduce the number of “false positive” motion alert. For more information on adjusting your motion settings to better fit your needs, please see our help center article titled: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041248971-Using-Motion-Zones-with-your-Ring-Video-Doorbell-2020-release-.

After reading your review, it seems that your Ring Video Doorbell 2020 is having trouble staying connected to your home wifi. When this occurs, we recommend rebooting your wifi modem and router. Since your router and modem are usually the hardest working devices in your house, for optimal performance, you should reboot them about once a month. To reboot routers or modems, follow the instructions below:
Unplug your router or modem from its power supply (don’t just turn it off).
If your router and modem are separate, unplug both of them.
Wait at least 30 seconds, then plug them back in.
Wait for your internet to be restored.

    Don't waste your money

This Ring 2 retailed for $200 when I bought it 6 months ago. I got it on sale for $100. Its not worth it. The camera misses absolutely everything important. We had a car drive through the intersection by our house and hit both of our cars and our house and it caught absolutely none of it. Actually I didn't even get a notification that anything had happened. Then, about a month later, it decided it wouldn't connect to WiFi anymore. So we got a replacement and that one did the same thing after about 2 months. I cannot believe Amazon would put out such a poor product. Video quality was poor. Battery life lasted about 2 weeks. 6 months as advertised is laughable. I would have been ok with even 3 months. Even at $70 it's not worth it to rely on to capture things. Don't waste your money

    Inaccurate product description

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased this doorbell after reviewing the product information. Information states doorbell can operate in -5 degrees. Have had problems with the doorbell and contacted ring to be told that in “cold” weather, 32 degrees, the battery will not draw a charge even if hardwired. There is nowhere in any information online to find this out prior to purchase. This also contradicts that it will operate in -5 degree weather as if there is no power it can’t run. Ring is deceptive in selling these products without mention in description while well aware of the information. Tried to let Best Buy know this false information and see what could be done only to get hung up on. Will not support ring or Best Buy again.

      Hello,

We understand where you are coming from, as this isn't the experience we want our customers to have. Although certain weather conditions can affect performance, your device should still function within the stated operating conditions. Please know we hear your concern and are here to help.

Please understand that each home is different, and certain limitations may change how effectively electricity flows to your doorbell. For example, an older or lower power transformer may not work as efficiently in freezing temperatures. Conversely, too thin of doorbell wiring may have a similar effect.

Terrible Customer Support - Will Break In a Year

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Ring Video Doorbell camera stopped recording video 2 weeks ago (warranty expired in March). I've tried to fix it a couple times over the past week by resetting, but failed. Called customer support today and sat on with a tech for 1 hour. She was unable to fix my camera, and suggested I buy a new one at 35% off. The camera connects to my wifi, but will not connect to the ring network. Is this the ring business model? Sell bad quality cameras that break after a year and encourage you to buy replacements? Really disappointed that they don't stand behind their product. Looks like it's time to try nest.

      Hi Bestbuycustomer.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

At Ring, we understand it is essential to have your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) online and working properly so you can keep your home secure. The features and technology provided by the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We are here to provide you with some information to resolve the connectivity concern you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like you have some concerns with your device disconnecting from your home wifi network. Usually, a device falling offline repeatedly is related to poor wifi connectivity caused by signal fluctuations, channel congestion, or data loss. In rare cases, this can be caused by settings in your router.

To determine whether or not the problem is caused by poor upload speed, run a speed test to determine if your network can support Ring devices. Ring devices with 1080p video require at least 1 Mbps upload and download speeds, though 2 Mbps is recommended for optimal performance.

If your networking equipment hasn’t been power-cycled in a while, try unplugging it for 30 seconds and plugging it back in to see if this clears up your connectivity concerns. Visit our support center for more information.

Ring Community was launched to help deliver the most current news and educational information to our neighbors. To get my phone verified (it has the same number) I was made to call in as there was no online service. The wait time this morning was a MINIMUM of 45 minuted. I am headed to Bestbuy and ripping the Ring out and hopefully have better customer service. DONT BUY ONE. THE ADVERTS DO NOY TELL YOU HAD BAD THE SERVICE IS.

      Hello PaulDavison,

Thank you for leaving a review. Ring understands how important it is for you to manage your account. In pursuit of our mission to make neighborhoods safer, when applying technologies to our business, we always consider our three pillars of customer security, privacy, and user control. Requesting your data should be a seamless process, and we would like to provide you the steps needed to, so you can take full control of your account.

Based on your review, it seems that you may have not set up the two-factor authentication feature in your Ring App. Two-Step Verification means that you can only access your Ring account by providing another piece of information besides a password. The first time you try and access a Ring product on a new device (phone or PC), you will have to enter a second piece of information in addition to your password. This second piece of information is a randomly generated code that will be sent to your mobile phone. Enter the code, and you will have access to your account. This means that in the future, you will have more secure access to your Ring products. To set up two-factor authentication, please see our help center article: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039693891-Enhancing-Security-with-Two-Step-Verification.

Hi user220785. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand the importance of having a consistent wifi signal on the Ring Video Doorbell. Having a solid connection ensures you do not miss any activity around your home. We are here today to provide you with education to assist you in finding the best solution for your home’s environment.

It sounds like you experienced some connection issues with the device. Usually, devices falling offline repeatedly is related to poor WiFi connectivity caused by signal fluctuations, channel congestion, or data loss.

To determine whether or not the problem is caused by poor upload speed, run a speed test to determine if your network can support Ring devices. In edition to ensuring that you have sufficient wifi speeds, you will also want to check the signal strength of your device.

Ring devices with 1080p video require at least 1 Mbps upload and download speeds, though 2 Mbps is recommended for optimal performance.

A poor wifi signal can cause connectivity with your Ring device to be unreliable. Check the Device Health section of your Ring application to ensure the device’s RSSI is within an acceptable range. The recommended range for optimal performance is 0 to -60 for the RSSI.

If your networking equipment hasn’t been power cycled in a while, try unplugging it for 30 seconds and plugging it back in. Wireless networks utilize different channels for communication. In the United States, the 2.4 GHz band uses channels 1-11 and the 5 GHz band uses channels 36-165. In some cases, setting up your Ring device(s) can fail due to wireless interference or congestion.

If you still have the Ring device in your possession, we invite you to reach out to our Community. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their personal feedback and experiences with Ring. We look forward to hearing from you if we can be of any further assistance!

      Thank you,
      Melissa from Ring. Ring
