And the app functions are cumbersome and not intuitive. Notifications work fine at least. Installation by Geek squad was stellar. Wish I’d invested more in a better camera.

The issue you're experiencing with your Ring Video Doorbell Wired not showing the first six feet from the door is likely related to positioning. The Ring Video Doorbell Wired should be mounted at a height of approximately 48 inches (1.22 meters) from the ground for optimal motion detection. The camera on your Ring doorbell has a wide field of view and does not need to be mounted higher or lower to view approaching visitors. If mounted too high or too low, you may encounter inconsistent motion detection or undesired motion events.
If your home has siding or if your door is elevated with stairs leading up to it, you might need to adjust the angle of your doorbell using a Wedge Kit. However the installation wasn’t as simple as portrayed in the instructions. We had to hire an electrician even though we had a working doorbell to begin with.

There was an install video to go along with the included instructions on Ring's website. I already had the app downloaded because of a different device so set up went smoothly. The only thing that is just tad annoying is that I get a ton of notifications when my flag blows in the view of the doorbell. I set it up to pick up just people, which did reduce the amount of notifications. Overall a great product!

My alarm company installed a camera made by a company called Skybell. I had problems with it right away. After 3 service calls, I had them remove the camera. I then bought the Ring doorbell camera at Best Buy and could not be happier. It was easy to install and to set up. I was so happy with it that I purchased a Ring doorbell form one of my children. I would definitely recommend a Ring doorbell.

It sounds like you are experiencing connection issues. The Ring Video Doorbell Wired is a wired video doorbell that offers 1080p HD video with night vision and two-way audio with noise cancellation. With Ring doorbell, you can check in on your front door anytime, from anywhere, and can see and speak to visitors at your door in real time using your Ring app or Alexa-enabled device. The Ring Video Doorbell Wired is compatible with b/g/n WiFi networks operating on 2.4 GHz frequencies. High-speed internet is recommended. If your Ring device is having trouble connecting, the Ring app will show an error with a code that will help you with your issue.
Here are a few of the top reasons for poor connectivity:
Your Ring device may be too far from your WiFi router.
Your mobile device has a low signal or poor connection.
Your home wifi connection is poor (or your internet service provider is experiencing high traffic).
If your Ring device is far from your WiFi router, it may be experiencing connection issues.
To learn more about your device's signal strength, follow these steps:
Open the Ring app.
Tap the menu (☰).
Tap Devices.
Select the ring device you would like to test.
Tap on the Device Health tile.
Scroll to Signal Strength under the Network section.
The green, amber, and red colors are indicators of your device connection. Green is good; red is poor.
Move your WiFi router off the floor.
