Didn’t red the larger more expensive one either. Door chime is nice. Especially having the ability to change the sounds (stops dogs barking at normal chime). It was easy to connect and it provides video in good quality quickly to my phone. Poor internet quality would probably result in delay. Recommend faster internet to alleviate slow response. Good by for price.

Ring Wired Doorbell

The ringer is loud and is easy to plug into any outlet. The phone app is great. The installation was straight forward and easy. Highly recommend this product.

The Ring Home Plan provides valuable capabilities, such as accessing paid features and the ability to save, download, and review footage captured by your Ring device. We can definitely provide you with more information regarding the concern mentioned in your review.
With a Ring Home Plan, you can save, review, and share video recordings from your Ring devices to your Ring account. Without a Ring Home Plan, you can still view real-time video for Ring doorbells and cameras and answer doorbell notifications when they happen, but you don’t get video recordings of those events.

Good video but worthless Chime!

I setup the system easily. I felt the instructions were good. But the Chime rang once then wouldn't respond. After an hour on the phone with customer service (who were very nice), they decided to send me a replacement Chime. It took about a week, but the new Chime arrived and seemed to do the same thing. Again I called customer service, they talked me through reinstalling the Chime. It worked two or three times, but about an hour later it didn't ring when someone pushed the button. The app on the phone rang, but not the Chime. By the next morning, the Chime went offline by itself. Now I have connected my Ring Doorbell to my Alexa and it now rings through the Alexa dots and shows throughout the house. For an inexpensive video doorbell the wired Ring is good, but don't waste your money on the combination Doorbell & Chime. The Chime is a waste of $20.

We're glad to hear you were able to get an alternative solution implemented; however, you are correct that you should be able to enjoy the peace of mind the Ring Chime is designed to provide. If the device was plugged into the same outlet both times, we recommend trying another outlet to ensure the one being utilized is not shorting out the device. While this is not a typical concern, it's important to consider environment also playing a factor in the performance of your devices.
