Great Doorbell Simple to Install and Use

I purchased the Ring Doorbell to provide an additional level of security and piece of mind for my grandmother's house. Installation was a breeze using existing powered doorbell and the wired chime continues to function as normal following install. One note: if you have steps leading up to your door/porch and your doorbell faces a street be sure to use a wedge to angle the doorbell down to avoid motion alerts from passing cars.

The installation process itself is pretty straightforward too. If you’ve got an existing powered doorbell you can simply swap out the old bell button and replace it with the Ring, using the old wiring – assuming it’s connected to a standard 8-24VAC supply. The alternative is that you either get a doorbell transformer installed or you can simply run the Ring off the battery and charge it every month or so when it runs out - it charges via microUSB. To recharge the device you have to remove it from its base plate, which involves undoing two screws and sliding it off. It’s a bit of a faff, but once you’ve got the knack Ring Video Doorbell However, this is one of the early potential issues with this device, as it’s all too easy for someone to just steal your Ring, assuming they cover their face, of course. Not to mention that it's easy-to-reach position means it's simply that bit easier to break/steal than a conventional IP camera that would be mounted higher up on a wall. Also it was reported that it’s relatively easy for someone to hack into your Wi-Fi by stealing a Ring loaded with early firmware versions. However, the latest update apparently prevents this. If your Ring is stolen the company will replace it free of charge if you submit a Police report. It’s a smart-looking unit. Measuring 12.65 x 6.17 x 2.21cm, it’s larger than a normal doorbell, but it's still nicely compact. The bottom section is covered in a nice sandblasted metal, while the top sees glossy plastic surrounding the camera. Ring claims its doorbell is weathproof, with rain, snow, heat and sleat resilience, though the company doesn't claim any specific IP rating. It clearly won't survive a dunking but should resist most everyday weather. The camera shoots at up to 720p at 15fps, which is a little low compared to some security cameras that can manage 1080p at 30fps, but is still sufficient for the up-close surveillance it’s meant for. T Ring Video Doorbell The lens is an ultra-wide angle type with a field of view of 180 degrees horizontal and 140 degrees vertical. It results in footage that has a round fish-eye effect, but that's the price you pay for such a wide-angle shot. Above the lens is an array of IR LEDs for night vision, while below is the only other external feature, which is the button itself. Surrounding the button is a ring of blue light that flashes to indicate the Ring's status while setting it up, charging it and when it’s pressed. When you do press it, either the Ring itself will chime or your existing doorbell will. Alternatively you can buy a separate Chime accessory that plugs into any main socket in your home and connects to the Ring via Wi-Fi. With a Chime installed, that will ring instead of the Ring. Slide the Ring off its mounting and you can access the Micro USB charging port and orange setup button. Once you’ve downloaded the Ring app and set the Ring up via its built-in Wi-Fi signal, it’s a doddle to add it to your network and get set up. A quick sign-up to the Ring service with an email address and password and you can get right down to using it The Ring really is a doddle to use. The app is clear and simple, and it does a fine job of automating the whole process of adding devices to your network. The app also links to the Ring’s cloud video recording service so you can play back clips captured via the motion detection or when the bell is rung. Perhaps most crucially is that it provides notifications whenever the doorbell is pressed or, optionally, when motion is detected, and you can then talk back to the visitor if you so choose. This is possible no matter where you are in the world, assuming you have an internet connection. Ring Video Doorbell The footage it provides is plenty good enough for what’s required. The camera does a decent job of judging exposure, shows sufficient detail for close-up subjects and provides a wide field of view. The motion detection also works well. You can set up a multi-zone system where the camera ignores certain parts of the image either completely or past a certain distance – so you can make it ignore traffic, for instance – but it seemed a bit hit-and-miss. I just ended up setting the system to record whenever anything happened Ring Video DoorbellThe Ring also has IR LEDs for night vision

I chose the standard Ring in the hope the 720 video was sufficient and was pleased that it was. So save yourself the extra dollars rather than buy the higher res version. Installation was simple and I was able to hook it up to the existing doorbell power so no worries about constant recharges. There is a very slight delay between the time someone presses the button and the alert popping up on my phone, but that has more to do with my wifi than the device I suspect. Our door faces a street so it's been impossible to get the motion tracking right. You can turn motion alerts off, but it would be nice if the device could do a better job of differentiating between a vehicle passing fast and someone walking up to the door or around our deck. Otherwise I'm very happy with my purchase.

Easy to install. Excellent support 24/7. My Ring was set too sensitive at first. Easy to reset. Depending on location of router, an extender may be needed. Call the company. They will send one out free to you. You'll know who's at your door whether you are home or not. My neighbor immediately got one after seeing mine. Great if you get lots of packages. I love being able to see what's going on when I'm not home.

Purchased as part of Black Friday deal. Super easy to install and sync up with the app. Only issue is the motion settings, if you zoom all the way out you’ll get notifications hundreds of times a day, if you zoom in it doesn’t pick up motion all the time trying to focus in. Definitely a great product and makes you feel a little more at ease knowing you’re “always home.”

It does Everything it's suppose to do. It needs to be a tad bit better at everything. The motion detection is a little slow to activate. Video starts pixelated and slowly becomes clear to hd quality. Mounting backplate could be stiffer. The size could be smaller. Overall very functional but tuning over the next few generations will probably make it better.

We got this after some concerns in our neighborhood and felt this would meet our needs. Low and behold, it was more than we could have expected. It is easy to install, and even easier to use. The ability to interact with people at the door is invaluable and the recordings are easily accessed. Well worth the purchase. The company is great about keeping the app up-to-date and functioning properly.

The set up was very easy. The video quality was better than I expected. There is a little bit of a time lag when talking to someone but not so much as to make it frustrating to use. The reason I didn't give it 5 star is the motion detection doesn't work through the storm door. Once the storm door starts to open, the motion detection works great.

This thing is great! Setup was easy and it charges from the existing wiring with no additional setup. The video is good quality, and as long as you have a decent connection on your phone/device, the two-way voice works well too. My only gripe is that the motion detection picks up random stuff regardless of how low you turn down the sensitivity. Overall, we love it so far.

This camera works great, was easy to install, and seems to be of high quality. I didn’t want to spend the extra money for the newer models, so I am satisfied with the performance. Our front door is elevated and fairly close to the street, so l struggled with getting the sensitivity right, it was constantly triggering on cars going by. Finally I reinstalled it with the Ring “wedge kit” which tilts the camera down so it doesn’t see the cars and that solved the problem, but I don’t love the appearance. I’ve since learned that some other doorbell camera’s are more sophisticated and offer more selective sensitivity, maybe even triggering on people . You might want to check those out.

This product works as advertised with some minor issues. As of this review I am working with Ring.com customer service on getting the app to work on my PC with Windows 10. The app opens when someone rings the doorbell or there is motion, but they do not hear me at all and I only hear them garbled. The other issue is a latency problem when someone comes to the door or when there is motion. Sometimes, they are leaving the door area before the Ring.com app recognizes them and begins to record. This is the same on my IOS app or the Windows app on the PC. That said, the video quality stored on the cloud is really clear and the annual price for cloud storage (currently $30 a year) is inexpensive. I like the fact that with the apps I can answer the doorbell without having to actually go to the door, and can even answer a ring when not at home using the IOS app. Even with the two issues mentioned above, I like the product and will be keeping it as another security measure to help protect my home.

I purchase this doorbell to replace n existing doorbell, and initiall feeling it is a great product. The motion detection zone is pretty large, because I get notifications when a vehicle drives by my house. I like the fact that I can use it as a wired doorbell or wireless . Setup was easy, and painless, and took little time to install.

We bought the Ring security doorbell from best buy. After reading the instructions we attempted to install it. Had a small issue. And we had the video from ring sent to our cell phone. The installation went smoothly from then on. We were greatly surprised at the quality of this product and all you can accomplish security wise. I definitely recommend Ring to everyone.

Bought this camera for a friend's townhouse and after the easy install, I thought it was going to be smooth sailing. This camera obviously relies on a steady stream of wifi to work at it's fullest potential. From the door to your wireless router is important. If you do not have a strong signal a extended signal booster is a must. Camera quality is average and easy to navigate. Really like the Rings' integration and platform, just need to adjust the sensitivity down. If not you will get notifications non stop. The higher models seem better for zoning and what not. Overall to get some peace of mind who is coming and going from the front door this is a good start.

This thing is GREAT when working properly. Clear 720p camera, worked with my chime even. I like the idea of the mounting plate, which certainly made my tedious task of mounting so much easier. Problem is the things never seems to work consistently, even with good Wi-Fi. My notifications from the app, randomly stop for days from time to time, but then will work perfectly for days before stopping again. The motion sensor doesn't always capture motion and the ring button doesn't always work. Can't figure it out. Also, this battery certainly won't last 3-6 months. Mine barely lasted 4 weeks, with conservative settings and usage. Maybe I just have a defective product, but both that I bought at the same time are having the same issues.

The functionality of this thing is great - integration with the app is really good, camera quality is fine, looks good. However, you will find some challenges as you install it. The wall bracket is too thin, so as you screw it in to the wall, it warps. Even slight warping will mean the doorbell contacts will not properly touch the wall bracket, so it will not get house power and will run on battery (for a little while). If you install it and the ring around the doorbell button does not light up, you likely have experienced this problem. Back out the wall plate screws a bit, cross your fingers and try again. Also, if you are in a cold weather climate, even with the device properly hardwired to house power, the battery will show 0% a lot, which means it will work, but you cannot use the app to view the camera. Seems like with a few minor tweaks, the Ring doorbell would be quite a lot better.
