Good investment.

At least you know quickly when someone is at your door or a package has been delivered.

It sounds like the device is not performing as intended in regards to alerts.
To enable and customize your doorbell "Ring Alerts" when someone presses your doorbell and "Motion Alerts" when your doorbell or camera detects motion, follow these steps in the Ring app:
Open the Ring app and tap the menu (☰) in the top left corner.
Tap "Devices," then select the relevant device.
At the top of the screen, you can toggle the following on or off:
Ring Alerts
Motion Detection
Motion Alerts
Motion Warning (if your device has the feature)
Tap the "Motion Settings" tile to customize settings such as:
"Motion Sensitivity."
"Smart Alerts" (available to Ring Protect subscribers) allows you to distinguish motion so you can know whether it's a person or something else like a car.
"Advanced Settings" (example: "Advanced Motion Detection," "Motion Schedules," and "Motion Frequency.")

The install went pretty easy in my newly constructed home. A bit fiddley but nothing that was too hard to do. The app needs work. It is a pain to try and set the motion detection zone on your phone screen.

We returned another brand because the streaming video lagged like crazy. Ring was easy to install and works perfectly! I'm not a handy, but even I got this installed, into bring, with no problems.

I found that reading the on line instructions along with the provided instructions made it clearer. Part of the problem was watching an expert on you tube putting the back plate on wrong.
