I purchased 2 of these surge protector outlets. One for my TV and one for my printer. They were easy to install and the indicator light is very noticeable. It's been a few weeks since I installed them and all is well. Time will tell how they work.

Easy installation. Took 7-10mins to install. That's including swapping out the cheap residential plug outlet. This surge outlet fit right in the original wall box without any modifications. It has handled our sauna and tv well so far!!

Really nice product and as simple as a regular outlet to install - only comment is that you might want to get a deeper wall box if you have room as the outlet itself fills most of a standard size box.

Perfect solution for TVs and laptops

While I have a few packaging and design quibbles about the Rocketfish 2-outlet in-wall surge protector it’s a great product that serves its purpose perfectly. That purpose, of course, is to eliminate a wall wort or floor snake surge protector, both of which are aesthetic nuisances. An in-wall surge protector, like this Rocketfish branded one, are also essential to preserving the sleekness of flat screen TV’s by enabling them to sit flusher on the wall. Not a fan of wall worts myself, this Rocketfish in-wall surge protector is the perfect solution for my “laptop chair.” I often retreat from my home office to a plusher chair in my family room. This is my laptop chair. Before installing this in-wall surge protector I had a giant surge protector box that sat over my outlet and did not compliment the room, to be kind. Now the outlet doesn’t standout, but my expensive laptop is still protected. Just like any other surge protector, it has a small status light to let you know if your devices are protected (green) or it’s taken a fatal surge to save your device or used up (no light). It also illuminates red if there is a wiring fault. The light is bright enough to let you know what’s going on without calling attention to itself. In a nutshell, this surge protector will be effective for any consumer device on a 15 amp circuit – the most commonly found in a home. But homes usually also have some 20 amp or greater circuits too so it’s vital to verify the amperage of the target outlet at your circuit breaker box is only 15 amp. Don’t install it on a 20 amp or higher circuit. The surge protector is UL Listed, which is always the first thing I look for in a surge protector. There are a lot of inexpensive surge protectors that have zero independent testing. Blind faith is not something I care to use to assure myself a surge protector will actually work or is even manufactured correctly. I need to know it’s been put through its paces before I bring it into my home. To this end I would also only buy a surge protector from a trusted brand and store because, honestly, these days anyone can print the letters “UL” with impunity. So, it’s important, not only to have the UL stamp of approval, but also to know the stamp was actually approved by it. Another nice safety feature is that it’s tamper resistant making it harder for kids to stick things into it and get shocked. Tech specs are plenty good. 1080 Joules, 3-line protection. In common parlance, it’s beefy enough to take “the hit” for the two plugged in devices. However, that brings up the major limitation of a built-in surge protector versus one that plugs into an outlet: you are limited to two devices. You should never use an extension cord with a surge protector or plug in a surge protector to another surge protector. So, if you need to plug in more than 2 devices, pick a surge protector with enough sockets to at least match the number of devices you have. Installation is no different than a conventional wall outlet. It’s a quick and easy DIY project for anyone knowledgeable about basic electrical and safety protocols. If not then find someone who is experienced and confident in this kind of installation. If you are a DIYer, know this surge protector has the typical screw and push in connector (12 or 14 AWG) options for the line and neutral wires. The ground is attached via screw at the bottom. Also, it requires a standard depth gang box. It can’t be installed in a shallow depth box. I do have a couple of “issues” with this product, both with the included wall plate. First, the wall plate comes screwed on to the surge protector. For the installer its just extra work having to unscrew it to install the surge protector. I’m sure it’s easier and less expensive for Rocketfish to manufacture it this way and, on a positive note, it does eliminate the plastic screw bag. But an alternative here would be to design it with screwless “snap-on” wall plate. It would improve and simplify the installation experience. My other dislike is also with the wall plate, specifically the “Rocketfish” branding printed on it. It’s just tacky. I don’t know of any other top shelf electrical outlet brand that does this. The whole reason one buys an in-wall surge protector is to “class up” the joint. I wouldn’t mind if “Rocketfish” was stealthily embossed into the plate or surge protector, but printed, pass. So, I “had” to go buy a clean wall plate without branding. It wasn’t the expense, just the extra effort that I had to expend. Plus, the fact the “Rockfish was instant recycling bin. From an environmental standpoint that kind of negates the elimination of the plastic screw bag. Of course, if you are installing this for a TV the above won’t matter since the plate is out of sight anyway. These are just “wishes” for a succeeding model. The only real reason not to buy this surge protector is if you have more than two devices to protect. Otherwise, if you are looking for a reliable, independent lab tested, in-wall surge protector for your TV or laptop, or whatever device you can’t go wrong with the Rocketfish.

In my house i normally use full sized surge protectors for all of my larger electronics. However, in my bedroom i do not have one for my television and phone chargers that are plugged into one outlet. I feel that this outlet surge protector is the perfect solution. This outlet is very easy to install as it is the same as any other standard outlet. You shut off your breaker that feeds the existing outlet, then replace it. The only thing i don't like is that the face plate has the 2 exposed screws on it. I prefer the outlets that have the hidden screws and snap on face plate. Not sure why they skipped this detail. Once installed you can flip your breaker back on and check to make sure the outlet is working. The outlet has a small LED light that indicates the outlet is currently protecting your devices plugged into it. The LED light then changes color if it has detected a surge. There is also a different color if the outlet is not working correctly. I assume this is if the wiring was installed incorrectly. Overall i think this surge protector outlet is a great solution to protect your smaller devices. I have it installed in my bedroom and it is absolutely perfect!

Difficult To Fit in a Standard Wall Outlet Box

I initially thought this was a good idea, but the installation process and end result changed my mind. This outlet is deeper in depth than a standard 2 outlet fixture, which made it a problem trying to install. I tried 2 different outlets in my house and both were wired in series, which means there were 2 sets of 14/2 NM-B wires in the boxes. These are thick heavy wires and pretty much standard in all household wiring. It was a tight fit with the standard outlets and an impossible fit with the surge protector outlet. I screwed the flanges down tight to the box but they just bent because there wasn't any more room in the box to push the surge outlet further in. The final result was that my Rocketfish outlet sticks out from the wall about 1/8 inch. Maybe it would have fit on an end of the line outlet, but you'd have to be lucky to find one. It's nice to have an outlet that you don't have to buy an additional surge protector for, and I like the blue light that's plainly visible indicating that surge protection is active. Also, the LED will glow red instead of blue if there is a wiring fault. However, the hassle of installation and the fact it sticks out of the wall, it would be easier to just buy a cheap six outlet surge protected power strip. Now I may be able to find a decorative wall plate with edges that reduce or cover the gap, but that just adds to the whole hassle. Bottom line - go get a surge protected power strip and avoid the hassle.

The Rocketfish 2-Outlet In-Wall Surge Protector is a brilliant idea and I am surprised I hadn't heard of this before. Essentially, this plug replaces a regular plug and provides surge protection for anything and everything you plug in to it. Installation does require a small amount of electrical knowledge and skill - but overall, installation is very simple. If you aren't sure what you're doing - please, get an electrician to help you! It took me about 10 minutes to install the Rocketfish in-wall surge protector. The only difficult part about the installation is the size of the in-wall unit is significantly larger than a traditional plug, I found separating the outlet from the plastic plate was necessary as I installed this in my kitchen where there is also a light switch. After turning the power off and removing the old plug, it was very easy to just snap the wires in to the new plug. Turn the power back on and - instant protection! I use this plug to charge my tablet and phone every night so having the additional surge protection is great. I would highly recommend this product to anyone.

Easy to install and looks great. Ive had a couple power fluctuations and outages in the last couple weeks and hasnt fried anything yet so thats good. Seems like a decent option for a wall mounted tv, much better than plugging into a standard outlet. Doesnt have the protection rating of a plug in surge protector but better than nothing and seems to be the best bang for the buck compared to everything else on the market, especially when on sale. Will definitely pick up a few more for my other TVs.

***QUALITY?:*** To begin with, let me say that the quality of this item seems to be high. The plastics are all thick. To the look and to the touch, it's a neat outlet. The outer cover sits flush with the socket when properly installed. The metal tabs which work to hold the unit in place (and press the wires back into the box) are of standard thickness. ***INSTALLATION:*** Installation won't be surprising, as it has holes to insert your wires into on the top, and a squish plate to hold the ground at the bottom. All three are sturdy and make pinching down on the wires easy. Installation of the top cover starts the face-palming, however, as the top cover screws are too short to make it easy. 1/8" doesn't seem like a big deal until you're 1/8" short on connecting the top cover to the socket. If that were all, we could find a couple longer ones in the ol' screws box and call it good. But that's not all. ***INCOMPATIBILITY:*** THIS THING IS HUGE. If you have an old building with an old type of outlet box, this will not fit. Not even with a single set of wires - and many boxes have an extra set going to another outlet down the wall. If you have a newer building (with a larger box), you may face less hassle, though you still might end up having to trim your existing wires down (depending on the amount of extra your electrician left you). To get an idea of how huge this thing is, it's about 1/8" wider and about 1/3" deeper than a GFCI. ***CONCLUSION:*** If you're interested and KNOW you have boxes with ample room, go for it. If you don't, skip. Unfortunately, I have older, smaller boxes that max out at about a GFCI-sized outlet. And this is bigger. For that reason, I didn't keep it installed.

I’m always afraid to install things especially when electricity is involved so was not excited about doing it but to my surprise it was so wonderfully simple! First off it’s not much to it the package comes with the instructions and the outlet along with the face piece. I am using it for a very expensive monitor that I have an Xbox series X hooked up to. It’s my little gaming area and all I really needed was two plugs. Was using the normal outlet for the home but have been fearful especially in Florida about lightning or brownouts surges etc. This gives me piece of mind and especially since it has a little blue light that lets me know the outlet is fine and working as intended. Like I was saying install was a breeze! Turned power off, took picture (attached-of the older outlet) and put the black two wires with the black screw and the white two on the other side. Identical to how they are all set up so was easy to just follow existing wire hookup. And of course there is the neutral that has a place that you install/screw it in place. I hope I never have to use it but definitely makes me feel like I protected my investment much more than before!

I live in an area that gets a lot of power surges and thought these would be awesome to protect more sensitive electronics without a large surge protector. I've had them installed for a few months now and have experienced a few power surges, and they seem to have functioned perfectly. There's been no failures or any other issues in this time period, and they were very easy to install and fit in the electrical box.
