Doesn't work if you have cable internet

I had to upgrade to a DOCS 3.0 cable modem and when I did the wifi kept dropping off in my house. I read some online reviews and the suggestion made if you use a cable splitter you may see improvement with a better piece of harware. My current splitter was an old radio shack circa 1990's. For a relatively inexpensive part our home wifi is now consistent with no drop offs. Must have been the slight change in resistance through the splitter.
