Didn't want to use the Yamaha receiver as a switcher, just as an amp for external speakers. Audio only with this optical cable works fine

However the connection was quite good and it did improve the loudness of the tv.

I find the connection via toslink gives me the cleanest sound without having to route everything through my receiver.

The sound difference from the tv vs through the sound bar was extremely noticeable. Well worth it.

We’ve used it for a little over a year now and all is well. The sound bar we use it with has a nice sound still even with the Best Buy brand cable, works for me.
