Too thick heavy duty wire

I thought that I wanted a heavy durable gauge speaker wire but this was too too much. It was difficult to split and splice.

The photo looks like the POSITIVE is in red. It isn't. There are no colors. Trying to strip the ends resulted in the wire/stand falling into pieces to the floor. My mistake and not Best Buy. The price should have alerted me. I got lazy.
