Compact and powerful enough for lots a good games, great option if you travel or need it on the go… just don’t expect it to be a full blown gaming pc, it does have its limitations, especially batery life if you push it to turbo mode.

    Zero to PC Gamer instantly

I’m not a Windows guy—you can call me an Apple fanboy if you want, but frankly i have never had any reason to own a PC. It’s a simple fact, however, that Macs are not at all adept at serious gaming. And there has never been anything I’d want to play badly enough to spend over $1,000 on for a bloated hot-air genersting glowing box. So the ASUS ROG Ally is aimed directly at me. I’m a console gamer who wants to play PC titles with decent if not very good performance that gives me the option to connect to a larger screen and whatever peripheral i need. I want something thst takes up zero desktop or floor space because its more likely to be in my backpack than sitting in my apartment. And i want it to just work—i get that its a computer and not handhelfd cartridge-loading mobile gaming device, so my expectations are less than a Steam Deck or a Switch, but i also have no patience for optimizing and tweaking settings and purchasing parts as more experienced gamers go on about with their gaming rigs. Quite simply, the Ally let me have a fairly powerful Windows PC in a nice handheld gaming case, and i have to use my brain to get games on it and play. Easily done. It has made me instantly able to play a galaxy of PC games id never even considered before simply because the price of entry—in dollars and in hassle—was too steep. Now, for about the price of a nice console gaming setup, i can reliably play games sithout taking out a loan or having a resource hog live rent free in my home. If you’re a confident tech person (e.g. know how to install things in Windows) who just couldnt imagine building a dedicated PC for the games you play for fun and not for the sake of testing the limits of your hardware, this may well be the entry point for you.

Awesome little computer that you can take with you anywhere. The APU works great, I've played Elden Ring (works on >25W profile), City Skylines, Fallout 4, and Forza Horizon 5, Frostpunk, and Aven. All work great. Screen is wonderful, though I wouldn't recommend you play strategy or city building games on it (use the USB C connector to display it on a bigger screen and use a mouse/keyboard). All the buttons and joysticks work great as expected.

It might not have the bigger battery or the more ram/V ram, but it’s still super super cool to have everything on the go. Especially with this specific product the Z one extreme check will handle anything you want on the go. The screen is fine enough just wish it was a little bigger, especially with those big bales. Nothing bad to say about it.

Got it a little late but only by a day or two of release. Out of the box had to reset because armory crate would not load. After windows reset everything was working fine. Assassin Creed Chronicle crashed system but looked it up and it’s a game issue. Watchdog two runs fine and AC Odyssey bench ran fine. Steam games ran fine. My only issue is low storage.

So this thing is crazy!! Its NOT, REPEAT NOT stream lined like the deck(own both) to be console like. This is a gaming laptop with contollers attached. It does have ita issues but so far I have none that are major and easily fixed. In the end so far...worth every dang cent! Grab yours if higher end AAA games are what you want to play without limits

Love this thin, my wife also uses it and enjoys the heck out of it. Fair warning though, battery life isn’t great no matter how you run it. Runs gamepass stuff without an issue, ran remnent 2 and it runs pretty good overall. It’s not going to be running it in high settings but for a current console game to run at 60fps with some tweaking of the settings, can’t complain all in all.

Runs everything very well for a portable computer. A storage upgrade is a must but the internal SSD was very easy to replace and many of the components are modular if one wears out or gets damaged. Overall a very solid device.

Run game the a champ. Got a fair openbox but turned out to be like new to me. Battery last 1-1:30 hour with 15- 20W mode. Been playing Spiderman medium/ high setting (no RT) with 70-80 FPS. A nice device to playthrough the backlog

    Vs Steam Deck

I was debating between this and the Steam Deck and ultimately decided on this due to the colors, brightness, and resolution. I have since used both and am able to say that this is better than the steam deck in most regards. It is a little more expensive but definitely worth it if you don't want the track pads the steam deck has. That is the only factor the steam deck wins at comparing the two.

Bought this when my pre-order for a lenovo legion go got back ordered and I dont regret it one bit. Powerful enough to run most modern games well. Only 2 drawbacks are that the hard drive isn’t that big (upgraded mine to 1tb), and the rog allys have issues with the SD card reader causing them to fail.

This thing is awesome as long as you understand its limitations. I can play all of my games on it just don't expect 60 fps high settings. First thing is make sure you get all of the updates, YouTube is your friend please watch all the tutorials you can on setting it up my favorites are videos from RetroGame Corp and ETA Prime. Once you have it all setup and games downloaded please use Google to find the best settings per game.

I did return this since I was able to get the legion Go open box for a $110 less than the original price. But yea…. After updating and some tweaking it was working well. Control game ran with 60+ FPS at 720p with medium settings easily I barely heard the fan go off. It can go up to 1080P but not every game will run at this setting…. The ROG ally software doesn’t compare to the steam deck but I do like it better than the legion go for now. Battery is what you would expect from this type of handheld…. Not very good so keep a Powerbank with you. Sound is the best compared to the legion go and steam deck and I do mean way better!! So if you’re planning on getting one this would be a great time…. Open box items are close to $150 off. Just manage ur expectations though and you will enjoy this wonderful piece of gaming device.

To start off i have had 2 units, the first one killed a brand new 1tb A2 card from Silicon Power(brand) ordered from amazon. The first one would also put the screen in a sleep state that the units screen wouldnt wake from, i could hear the sounds from the games but the screen wouldnt turn back on. Unit 2 has been mostly ok but in the case no pressure on it or anything the entire analog stick cap came off and would not go back on, the only way is to replace it internally. STILL I would like to say as far as gaming power and capability all in all when all is working THIS IS THE BEST GAMING EXPERIENCE EVER even over all of my other more powerful systems, it has the best sound ever in a handheld, best screen quality, the hi def vibration is great, and when you put all of those things together you get a sense filled experience while gaming, that said, I have large hands and the ergonomics could use some work on the next iteration. It feels ok but not great in my opinion.

I got a great deal on this, Black friday + Open box. Amazing price, I am enjoying the ally except for the SD card slot. It was a defect I was aware of before buying but didnt really believe. It worked for a while and I was able to emulate games etc but then one game crashed the system got hot and the sdcard was no more. This was dissapointing but besides that, I love my ally, it lets me game closer to the wife and if she wants to play something in the car we have that option. Be aware of the flaw, it is real, But so are all the other great things you hear about this device.

What an amazing little device. Running AAA games at 30-60 fps is impressive. If youre familiar with windows customization is robust to tune settings. The only con is a physics problem. The battery life isnt great on this, and a battery bank is a must. A heavier battery in the device would be too uncomfortable.
