    The Best Handheld

Forget the Legion Go, no VRR, terrible speakers, and over gimmicky. It's also heavy. I literally had to put the speakers up to my ear to barely hear dialogue on Netflix. The Ally is the best you can get. Same specks and a lot smoother gameplay. Better software, and the 1080 is better. The higher rez on the Go actually does it a disservice. When down rezed because that's what the specs can actually handle, it looks worse than the Ally. I've tried both. I'm also a big Asus fan and have an M16 laptop. I'm very happy with this device. I will say this though, in order to play 1080p how I want to, these devices still need better specs. If you're willing to wait for a 2nd generation version, that device might actually be perfect if they improve the battery as well. The reach from the right stick to the top face button is a little long, they could make that better. The speakers are excellent on the Ally. I got the perfect grip which is a Skull & Co grip case so the ergonomics are perfect. I play mor on this little thing than my laptop which pushes 1600p on very high or ultra settings.

I probably got a defective one

I have a steam deck before I got the ally. Yes ally screen is better, audio is a tad better, and have more power to run more graphics demanding games. In my experience with the unit I got some games work beater that the Deck but some games i can run in the deck but not in the Ally, for example Ratchet and clank run no problem in the deck and it didn't want to run stable on the ally (crashed randomly), Start Field work on the Deck and it didn't work on the ally. That was my experience at the same time I was watching video of other people ally working just fine with the games I was having problems. I decided to keep the Steam Deck and return the Ally. Again it might be that I got a defective unit. Your experience might be better

Great competition for the steam deck, great screen size and display. Gets a little hot after about 40mins of use but seems to stay at a usable temp. Battery power is a lacking a bit, but with recent upgrades the battery capacity seems to be improving. Overall i give it an 8 out of 10

I absolutely love my asus rog with z1 extreme chip with my warranty I got it for only 500$ instead of $700 and I had an issue with the joystick moving on its own slowly across the screen and when I took it to Best Buy and told them my issue they instantly went and grabbed me a new asus rog ally z1 extreme brand new in the box no questions asked like as long as you buy the 2 year warranty this thing is amazing it works better then any laptop I could find in the 700$ price range it has amazing processor amazing ram and it’s able to easily connect to my tv at home or anywhere easily portable so so I can use it handheld or use it when I’m traveling and connect it to tvs all I do is connect it to the Asus hub or just plug in my usb-b to hdmi-usb-3 and usb-c connected and I can connect my 200$ mechanical keyboard and my gaming mouse to it and I can also connect my Xbox series X controller to it too through Bluetooth an

I thought I'd fall in love with the ROG Ally, but it was a complicated, one-sided relationship at times. I tried to reach out, but communication just wasn't there. Difficult to understand, unwilling to negotiate, doesn't look me in the eyes anymore. But that's okay, because now I'm setting my sights on other handhelds, and the Ally will see what it's missing. A handheld that understands me and meets me at my level of intellect (it was honestly just too complicated for me)

an excellent device. It is faster than steam deck and you can feel it. The fact that the screen feature is full hd and 120hz makes the difference. but you also feel the optimization problems caused by being windows 11. problems that can be fixed with updates. Perfect for playing Diablo 4.

It's great for playing on the go. Or at night when laying down. But don't expect to be able to play aaa titles well. I use it primarily for games like Apex, Life is strange. Have to upgrade the SSD to get decent storage space since everything is 50gigs or more.

Okay. So I am going to be honest, I was highly suspicious if this product was going to be able to deliver the performance, FPS, and most of all comfortability and HEAT! So I went it to this wrong in the 1st Place. BUYER BEWARE! I purchased my “1st” Unit Open Box because Best Buy described it as in “Excellent Condition” and with the savings of $42.00 I figured I could use that towards the purchase of there $39.99 ROG Ally Official Case. Fast forward. When I got home, Did all the updates. Tweaked around in the Armoury Crate. I loaded some games up. And I got stuttering and worst of all the left bumper had no input. So after doing some research Quality Control is a bit Wonky so Inreturned back to Best Buy swapped it out for a Brand New one. Loaded up all the games again, tested everything, and everything seems to run at a smooth 60 FPS, (tested Valhalla, Cyberpunk, Need for Speed Unbound, Gears 5, Overwatch and Spider-Man Miles Morales) Fans are super quiet. I am super happy now!! I rated it 5 stars because the product itself is EXCELLENT. If you run into a defective unit, just return it back for an exchange. Best Buy return policy is EASY!! No questions asked just a simple swap and I paid the diffrence in the open box price versus the Brand New Sealed price, but well worth it! Again, Excellent Product! Good job Asus.

takes a while to set up, it's a bit buggy as a first generation product, but man, once you get it to work, the ability to play any game on the go is awesome. the battery life is short, but i only play in bed with power outlet so it's fine. definitely a niche product and not for everyone.

After following this annoucement of the Asus Ally, this has been one of the best gaming handheld Windows powered devices to date. Ridiculous power, great screen with high fidelity, awesome frames per second on my favorite games. Easily one of the best intial releases of a gaming handheld guaranteed. Would absolutely recommend to anyone wanting a fun fast gaming handheld.

Got the Z1 Extreme. Performs way beyond expectations. This thing is now my go to for gaming. Battery power really isn’t an issue for me because it’s usually plugged in or docked. Storage could be a tad bigger but there’s an upgrade to the SSD to expand it to 1-2 TBs. Would definitely buy again.

I really like the device, compared to Steamdeck I feel it is better because it will play all Windows games. To do that on Steamdeck is a pain. Diablo 4 and Call of Duty both play on this device no problem. the only knock is the battery does not last. Also the accessories are over priced.

The ROG Ally has been awesome for me, I work in IT and love to try out new tech. Setting up the device was easy if you know what you are doing. Havent had any hardware issues so far. This is my go to gaming device for now and it helps me game anywhere in my house. I dont take it out of the house but its nice being able to play any of my pc games on my couch or bed.

Having owned the Steam Deck and the original Aya Neo I must say with regret that the Rog Ally has not lived up to my expectations. I was looking forward for a replacement for my Aya Neo which I've had since the first orders of the Indiegogo campaign shipped back in covid days, but after just 24 hours of ownership I am leaning towards returning it. The biggest deal-breaker for me is the lack of a dedicated USB-C port so I charge the unit while transferring data from external drives. This is also the reason why I sold my Steam Deck. Because all my Steam collection is backed up to an external SSD and I am finding myself having close to zero battery left after restoring only a few of my backups which are 100GB+ each. The ASUS armory crate is also a major hindrance. Yes, I know I can always uninstall it, but I prefer having the option to cycle TDP profiles in-game without using something like Ryzen Controller. While it's open, I found many cases where I could not use the web browser because the hitting the enter key on the virtual keyboard would cycle through the TDP profiles instead of acting as the enter key (i.e.: opening URLs). Performance-wise it does not feel a lot faster than my Aya neo which has the aging Ryzen 5 4500U soc. In games like FH5, even with FSR turned on with 720p and medium details, I get major intermittent stutters while running at 60fps that make the game annoying to play. MSI afterburner doesn't even register then FPS drop, it is that quick, but it's like the game rendering stops for a few hundreds milliseconds. My Aya doesn't do that! Having Windows 11 on it is also a big negative, not Windows in general which I appreciate over Linux as my biggest game collection is on GoG. It took a few hours to get all the Windows 11 updates downloaded and installed, not to mention the bloatware (Office, Teams???) and the occasional popups that get in the way and typical for an adware OS. Then there's the battery, see above. It does have some good things going for it. Compared to the Aya the build quality is better, the screen is also better despite being smaller, colors are more vivid and the sound is more crisp. The cooling system is also a lot less noisier than of the Aya Neo which almost always runs at full speed when in-game. The BIOS looks to be straight port from a ROG PC motherboard version which is also very nicely integrated with the touch screen and the buttons. The screen is also native horizontal. On the Aya a lot of older games start in portrait mode and try maneuvering the BIOS menu or the Windows installer in portrait mode... all without any input support, yikes! I can not recommend it though. I was really hoping for a an alternative to the Steam Deck, or the Aya, but unfortunately looks like Chinese companies like GPD, Aya seem to make handhelds that better serve my needs.

Ok ok, ive read some of the reviews and i dont understand why, maybe some people got a defective handheld and didn't work correctly. Which is a bummer. But from my experience since picking this up yesterday morning. Everything was very simple for me. Everything loaded up correctly and my update did not take long at all maybe 20 minutes max. I am not sure if its because i already have an ASUS flow laptop and i logged into my account and didnt have to create one and was a speedy process with that and armory crate. Within the hour i was already downloading games from steam. The only negative thing i can even think of so far, is the analog sticks feel very flimsy and cheap. But i am not to worried about it because this does have a warranty and if anything happens, ill just get them to replace it. Also this review comes from someone that owns a Steamdeck, Onexplayer mini and a GPD Win 3 and by far this system knocks it out of the park for performance wise. Also this review is coming from someone who is used to ASUS ROG products, as i mentioned earlier i have there laptop and is very familiar with the setup and how their products work. But maybe someone who is new to Pc gaming, i can see the confusion on how to get the ball rolling with the setup. Overall this is a very good product especially for the price!

I've seen a bunch of videos and reviews about the troubles this device has had. I am just reviewing my experience. I haven't had any real issues since I got it. It booted up fine, updated fine, even upgrading the SSD was easy. As far as the performance hit, I didn't really pay attention to be honest. The games still play at good FPS and I haven't tried to go back to the older BIOS version yet. I enjoy my Steam Deck as well, but the fact that I can play any game I own for windows on this without jumping through hoops is amazing. As far as the battery life, I admit I am mostly a couch/bed player but I do have a power bank for when I do need to travel. Not to say others aren't having issues, but as far as my experience I'd definitely recommend this. Excited to see how all handhelds improve in the future.
