Amazing little handheld device. I like feel of it and how well the games play. Can play fortnite on the go. Needs a bigger battery though and maybe tips to optimize the battery?

When I bought this, I was expecting software updates to occur. Which is fine, I've used windows most of my life, and I'm OK with navigating Windows. But my problem was that It got stuck the deathloop right away after an update. After it was completed ANOTHER UPDATE had to be done and same thing, deathloop. Luckily holding the power button helped and didnt corrupt or brick the system. But it was a noticeable issue. After 15million updates later, I was able to install 4 games, 2 of the which it will not run, why? I have no idea as they are games that arent demanding at all. One was from xbox live pass, and another from steam. Maybe its those thats causing the issue, who knows. The other 2 games ran flawlessly, both from Steam. The plastic case makes it seem cheap and flimsy, and having the SD card next to the exaust and charger make it seem like it was thrown together, and the buttons and joystick feel cheap and easily breakable. To sum it up the exterior is way more underwhelming then I was hoping for, but the performance of this device is crazy for it being handheld. Once i got over the updates and deathloop Problem. that is also the 2 games i spent installing that refuse to run (they were wreckfest and ATS. the other 2 games that ran amazingly was nfs payback and cyberpunk 77. ) overall I feel like its going to be a love/hate relationship with this thing. Should i return it to prevent that? Lol

It is not a direct competitor to steam deck rather a handheld pc, while steam deck feels like a console for gaming. Screen is amazing, processing power is amazing. Battery life kind of sucks. Also Asus admitted it has a SD card bricking problem.

I can’t say enough! This is easily the greatest handheld system I’ve ever owned. Xbox game pass plays great, steam works great, screen is awesome. If they fix the MicroSD card it’s unstoppable

It is a ton of fun to use and play games on. Like everyone else my SD Card Reader worked once and then died, but since I got it Open Box, and I knew that it would probably not work going in, that's fine.

Very good travel game device, it’s a powerful handheld that can play almost every AAA game at 60fps. 120hz mode also is very smooth when you’re at 120fps and can smooth out frame-rates that jump up and down.

As far as raw performance goes, it's hard to go wrong with the Ally. 8 cores/16 threads in the palm of your hand is frankly amazing. This is honestly one of my best computers. Windows is not great for handhelds (when portable) and the ASUS software leaves a lot to be desired in fixing that up. Armory Crate is fine as a basic launcher but as soon as you try to dig into settings/customization, everything falls apart. Would love to have seen some more R&D towards interface/input before this was released.

A full Windows 11 PC in a super compacts format, the hardware is very fast for the format, although designed as a gaming hand held, the small device is capable of running any pc based software with ease, excellent quality as expected from ASUS!!

Just took this on a cross-country trip and it was wonderful, particularly since an available plug on my flight meant I didn't need to worry about battery. I loved the Steam Deck, but am even happier with this as an upgrade, since it can play anything in my library (PC Game Pass, Epic, and GOG in addition to Steam) with no Linux tomfoolery needed. Docking a star for the fried 1TB SD card. Hopefully Asus will solve that issue soon.

I loved my ROG Ally, but it did have its fair share of hardware issues. The SD card slot, touch screen, and joysticks were problematic, making it less durable and somewhat inconvenient at times. However, when everything worked, it was an amazing device! I primarily used it to stream my Xbox and PlayStation games, which may have been overkill for its capabilities. For local games, I stuck to titles like Minecraft and Toontown, as competing in fast-paced games was difficult without a keyboard and mouse. Overall, I’m glad I got to experience being on the cutting edge of portable gaming. Unfortunately, due to the touchpad malfunction (a hardware issue), I’ll be using the Ally in docked mode going forward. Unless ASUS addresses these issues in future iterations, I’m likely to switch to Lenovo or OneXPlayer for my next handheld gaming device.

100% would buy and recommend. Only downside is battery life, but bought it knowing for higher level games I’d probably need to have it plugged in, so I can’t really complain.

The bios updates and bugs every day are not encouraging for a $700 device. It also gets extremely hot in turbo mode. Games do run great and adding all launchers is very easy if youre into pc gaming. The toughest thing for me is that the steamdeck is around half the price for the base and another $100 for a 1tb ssd that you can add which makes it around $450 for very similar performance. If you want no hassle then buy this instead. Battery life is horrible too but no other product is good at battery other than a switch.

    Nice Upgrade to the Switch

I've had my Nintendo Switch since 2017. I've loved it for its stability and simplicity. It's a handheld console with decent battery life without any bloat. A few years into owning it, I've been in the search for an upgrade. Deterred by subpar battery life and performance, I've stuck with my trusty Switch. That was until the ROG Ally with Z1 became available. The battery life is less than that of the Switch, which is expected due to its increased size, audio, video, and overall processing performance, but it's manageable. I'm able to play 2 and a half 6-minute quarter NBA games, which is not bad IMO. I have kept my Switch this whole time, but I think now I'm confident to let it go.

First things first this is a great device. Its got the lower to run just about any game at settings that look good on this size of a screen. Our boys played it while we traveled without issue. If someone is expecting this to be just pick up and play, it can be with skme front end work. Its a PC, so there is some set up, updating, and downloading required. But once its ready to rock the armory crate/asus app on the device keeps anything gaming well organized. Everyone has to remember if you dont have internet you cant play live service games, so olan accordingly and download some that can be played locally from the devoce. We are extremly happy with how it performs and its ease of use.
