I really like the device, compared to Steamdeck I feel it is better because it will play all Windows games. To do that on Steamdeck is a pain. Diablo 4 and Call of Duty both play on this device no problem. the only knock is the battery does not last. Also the accessories are over priced.

The ROG Ally has been awesome for me, I work in IT and love to try out new tech. Setting up the device was easy if you know what you are doing. Havent had any hardware issues so far. This is my go to gaming device for now and it helps me game anywhere in my house. I dont take it out of the house but its nice being able to play any of my pc games on my couch or bed.

Having owned the Steam Deck and the original Aya Neo I must say with regret that the Rog Ally has not lived up to my expectations. I was looking forward for a replacement for my Aya Neo which I've had since the first orders of the Indiegogo campaign shipped back in covid days, but after just 24 hours of ownership I am leaning towards returning it. The biggest deal-breaker for me is the lack of a dedicated USB-C port so I charge the unit while transferring data from external drives. This is also the reason why I sold my Steam Deck. Because all my Steam collection is backed up to an external SSD and I am finding myself having close to zero battery left after restoring only a few of my backups which are 100GB+ each. The ASUS armory crate is also a major hindrance. Yes, I know I can always uninstall it, but I prefer having the option to cycle TDP profiles in-game without using something like Ryzen Controller. While it's open, I found many cases where I could not use the web browser because the hitting the enter key on the virtual keyboard would cycle through the TDP profiles instead of acting as the enter key (i.e.: opening URLs). Performance-wise it does not feel a lot faster than my Aya neo which has the aging Ryzen 5 4500U soc. In games like FH5, even with FSR turned on with 720p and medium details, I get major intermittent stutters while running at 60fps that make the game annoying to play. MSI afterburner doesn't even register then FPS drop, it is that quick, but it's like the game rendering stops for a few hundreds milliseconds. My Aya doesn't do that! Having Windows 11 on it is also a big negative, not Windows in general which I appreciate over Linux as my biggest game collection is on GoG. It took a few hours to get all the Windows 11 updates downloaded and installed, not to mention the bloatware (Office, Teams???) and the occasional popups that get in the way and typical for an adware OS. Then there's the battery, see above. It does have some good things going for it. Compared to the Aya the build quality is better, the screen is also better despite being smaller, colors are more vivid and the sound is more crisp. The cooling system is also a lot less noisier than of the Aya Neo which almost always runs at full speed when in-game. The BIOS looks to be straight port from a ROG PC motherboard version which is also very nicely integrated with the touch screen and the buttons. The screen is also native horizontal. On the Aya a lot of older games start in portrait mode and try maneuvering the BIOS menu or the Windows installer in portrait mode... all without any input support, yikes! I can not recommend it though. I was really hoping for a an alternative to the Steam Deck, or the Aya, but unfortunately looks like Chinese companies like GPD, Aya seem to make handhelds that better serve my needs.

Ok ok, ive read some of the reviews and i dont understand why, maybe some people got a defective handheld and didn't work correctly. Which is a bummer. But from my experience since picking this up yesterday morning. Everything was very simple for me. Everything loaded up correctly and my update did not take long at all maybe 20 minutes max. I am not sure if its because i already have an ASUS flow laptop and i logged into my account and didnt have to create one and was a speedy process with that and armory crate. Within the hour i was already downloading games from steam. The only negative thing i can even think of so far, is the analog sticks feel very flimsy and cheap. But i am not to worried about it because this does have a warranty and if anything happens, ill just get them to replace it. Also this review comes from someone that owns a Steamdeck, Onexplayer mini and a GPD Win 3 and by far this system knocks it out of the park for performance wise. Also this review is coming from someone who is used to ASUS ROG products, as i mentioned earlier i have there laptop and is very familiar with the setup and how their products work. But maybe someone who is new to Pc gaming, i can see the confusion on how to get the ball rolling with the setup. Overall this is a very good product especially for the price!

Got the Z1 Extreme. Performs way beyond expectations. This thing is now my go to for gaming. Battery power really isn’t an issue for me because it’s usually plugged in or docked. Storage could be a tad bigger but there’s an upgrade to the SSD to expand it to 1-2 TBs. Would definitely buy again.

I've seen a bunch of videos and reviews about the troubles this device has had. I am just reviewing my experience. I haven't had any real issues since I got it. It booted up fine, updated fine, even upgrading the SSD was easy. As far as the performance hit, I didn't really pay attention to be honest. The games still play at good FPS and I haven't tried to go back to the older BIOS version yet. I enjoy my Steam Deck as well, but the fact that I can play any game I own for windows on this without jumping through hoops is amazing. As far as the battery life, I admit I am mostly a couch/bed player but I do have a power bank for when I do need to travel. Not to say others aren't having issues, but as far as my experience I'd definitely recommend this. Excited to see how all handhelds improve in the future.

I came from steam deck and its good if you like indies and emulation but pretty bad for AAA Gaming since it cant handle anything but low spec gaming. Thats where the Rog Ally shines it got all the launchers and can play the AAAs without stuttering as long as you have it plugged into a wall. For undocked you got 3 profiles you can customize for how long you want battery to last. The dual fans push heat to the top so ur hands barely feel the heat unlike steam deck. Its also a little bit pricier but totally worth it. My trouble with steam deck was with the verified games. Like you think it could run some games and you install it but it hangs on the launch screen. With the ally it just plays everything because its windows.

Sd card reader is useless. It killed 3 of my sd cards before i figured out why they were dying. One of them was a pretty expensive 512gb. Decided to upgrade to 2tb ssd (the more expensive 2230 m.2 even though there was plenty of room for the cheaper 2280) so its awesome now but such a hassle to upgrade especially since it doesnt install windows unless you adjust the time set correctly in the bios for some reason. I have installed windows on alot of computers. Never had a problem because of incorrect date and time in the bios. Something i had to learn from the youtube comments section after hours of trying to figure out why it wouldnt work. And of course shortly after i bought it they went on sale for $600 and are going for $500 on ebay. Ouch. Im pretty pleased with it though even with the hassle and the flaws.

Freakin' rocks. It's a windows gaming PC handheld. If you know how to tweak settings in games and work with mods and whatever else to make games play the way you like, this device is a freakin' treat! Man we've come far, I would have committed unspeakable annoying begging to parents as a child to obtain this thing, or at least relegated it to a fantasy possession like a Ferrari or Lamborghini. Hardware is top notch, everything works on mine. You'll probably like it. Modded Minecraft, Monster Hunter, simulators, racers, etc. What a cool device.

First of all, there are some quirks with this device over the Steam Deck. It is running on Windows 11 alongside an Asus app called armory crate that gives you a lot of control of the system. Unboxing it on day one is going to see you performing hours of updates to Windows, drivers, Asus software, etc... However, once it is all set, it really is a nice device with lots of customization. The main complaint I see is battery life, but if you're ok with being plugged in every hour or two, it's fine. You can drive up the battery life by running at lower wattages and perhaps getting a battery bank. The second thing I see is the SD card issues. I am opting to avoid the SD card slot altogether and instead will upgrade the internal SSD in the future if need be. If you're ok with deleting games you aren't playing, 512GB is fine. Supports all store fronts. More games are compatible on steam since it doesn't need proton. Overall, I am happy with the device.

Not a bad handheld gaming device. Plays games decent enough. The screen is very nice. Very vivid colors. Not much to complain about. Windows can be a bit of a nightmare though. Once you get it all updated it runs good.

Like the title says, i did return this product. The performance qas great, games ran good, windows 11 was surprisingly less of a hassle than i expected (although still bad), it just came down to the battery life and longevity concerns. The battery lasted an hour at most for me. This was miserable, and because batteries degrade in quality over time, this is gonna get worse not too far from today. On top of this, its windows 11. Something like the switch has a purpose, even after its dead. It has games. This is just a windows 11 pc, so its probably gonna get 4 years of life before its not supported. So do i love it? Yes! Its just 2 or 3 years from now when games get more demanding and the battery degrades, its just an expensive paperweight.

Price is close to a PS5 just a bit higher but runs like a champ my only main problems I have is it’s battery life goes fast, windows 11 isn’t really fully equipped for gaming, you have to have the ASUS ROG charger in order to update the console or run games at 30 TDP or what ASUS calls turbo mode, many games are optimized for performance and quality however you won’t get like 8K gaming with Ray tracing unless you use a oculink which cost like another $600-1000, joysticks can get stick drift along the road, and it’s limited to ports however I have many to say that’s good about the ASUS ROG Ally like for instance for a small device the specs are fantastic I am able to run any game on my steam library and it ran NBA 2K22 far better than my Acer Predator Helios 300 that has Nvidia 1060 graphics, the screen makes the device feel smaller than it looks, the fans do a good job not overheating the device, has a good grip, mappable back buttons and It’s survived long gaming sessions with it plugged in. My reason for giving this review 2 stars is because right now im experiencing more problems with it like on the internet many people who bought this product are experiencing an issue with the joystick where it only moves up and down it won’t move left and right some end up having to pay for it and I hope I don’t because I kept it in pristine condition while I used it I’m also having issues with the sd card because it won’t detect it and the windows software is running a little crazy like sometimes the file manager won’t work or apps aren’t starting and steam wont start after I moved games from one computer to another and I wish it came with more storage for the price I bought it at also mine came with all accessories I know because I read what all comes with it when I bought it however this lady on the Best Buy support team lied to me to get me off the phone by saying that the item I bought didn’t come with a charger because it’s open box but I got the excellent condition one I knew it sounded crazy the way she said it but she could’ve just said she doesn’t know and I would’ve asked someone at best buy which needs to be addressed because people who didn’t know how to handle a situation like this would’ve lost $40-$60 worth of a charger also I noticed I had to add a lot of force on the right trigger to shoot in gta 5, when I go to calibrate not only does the left and right not work on the joystick but the right trigger is not messed up too and I want to take picture but it won’t let me upload them
