holy moly. why get a laptop? it’s like a jack of all trades. almost any game is playable with the right settings. great as a handheld and great when docked. hook it up to a monitor/TV, mouse and keyboard. boom, your gaming.

The ally is an amazing portable gaming device, and has all the performance I can ask for. However, asus needs to do some work on the software side of things. Essentially, there are multiple apps that you need to use to update this device. Asus does not tell you about one of them called “my asus,” where you get bios updates as well as other firmware updates from. Additionally, the armory crate software is not the most intuitive piece of software.

Excellent gaming system. I was able to download my favorite PlayStation games on this to play handheld while recovering from surgery.

Device is beautiful and feels good in the hands. Performance is good but still has some bugs that needs to be addressed and windows 11 sometimes makes it impossible to use. Battery life is terrible, specially if you want to play AAA games on the go. Probably need to wait some time to see if it improves with software updates but overall is a great device

First of all dont believe all thr bad reviews, because many of those are from people who barely ynderstand how to turn on a cellphone, let alone set up a computer. It requires some patience and knowledge. If you dont have the knowledge be patient, the system requires many updates since its been wokred on by Asus and some Windows drivers also need to be updated. At most this will take you an hour or so, but once you get eveyrthing up and ready. Tryst me, the Ally plays all your games beautifully, so dont be dissapointed at first. The console is amazing for its size.

better than the steam deck in my opinion. higher frame rate, better picture and it can play more games!

Fantastic little power house however don’t expect much of the battery life… i recommend external power bank when on the go

I purchased the rog ally on july 2nd 2025. 2 weeks later 2 days after my return period ended they lowered its price by 150 dollars. I called the store and they refused to do anything to make it right for me. Also my ROG has killed 2 SD cards alrdy with its SD car slot issue. Great machine besides the SD issue and I would recommend never shopping at Best Buy as they refuse to budge on 2 days beyond the return period to match there huge price reduction. I will be solely doing amazon going forward even tho i have a BBY CC. I will not be shopping at this horrible store with zero customer service

I bought this near the initial launch, and saw lots of reviews about bad hardware. Coming to report nearly a year later to report ASUS has continually updated the machine, and it's been an absolute pleasure to use. I upgraded the storage to a 2TB NVME, and it was really easy to do yourself. Battery life is pretty bad (~1.5-2 hours on highest performance setting), but that's honestly to be expected.

I have had the Rog since the day it was released frim Best Buy and I love it. Mind you I am coming ftom 100% console play, therefore never really been into PC gaming. I could never really get into the aspect of gaming from a gaming PC, even knowing they have better preference. Therefore after months of research I went with the Rog over the Steam Deck. My reason was based on overall the Rog has less limitations than the competition at a great price. Ive read countless nitpicky reviews from PC gamers that leaves me asking why they just didnt stick to PC.

I’ve been thinking about this for a long time. Despite having a steam deck, it doesnt do everything I need in one device. I knew the Legion Go was coming out and it was another option I weighed in mine. However I saw this open box for a great price, I have relatively small hands and from what people says the Go makes even big men’s hands feel small, and I had good experience with Asus. Upgrading the internals was much easier than even the Deck. Honestly was worth it and really happy with it.

Love the Rog ally extreme it is very portable packs power and love the feeling in your hands also love best buy.

Great little device, as a dad that games this is great to grab some game time when the little one naps. Does take a little bit of PC knowledge to tweak some settings and get it working correctly but nothing to complicated. I bought one for my brother as well who is not that great with computers and was still able to get everything set up and enjoys using the device. For the price you cannot beat it, this is truly an ALLY to a gaming dad.

I have had this device for over a year now and have had no issues at all with it. Almost perfect. Looks better in my opinion over the new X version. For the price this can now be had, this a the best bargain in handheld gaming PC anywhere.

Best handheld device in the market, buy one and play on the go

After owning a Steam deck for the past year, I’ve been extremely pleased with the ability to play games that were off limits on the deck. I’m familiar with Windows for gaming, but mostly a Mac user. I’ve been very pleased with how well the Rog Ally works given the normal exceptions you need to make for Windows. Yes, there are more updates and tweaking necessary than a more closed platform, but as usual with Windows, you get maximum flexibility and ALL the options. I’ve enjoyed my time with the Rog Ally so far, and would definitely recommend it.

The ROG Ally is a great little device. Whats keeping this a 5 star product is the hardware issues. Asus poorly designed this device. It fries SD cards, with mine i had to RMA after two months because the left thumb stick only inputs up and does (known defect). The process to get this swapped out is terrible. If your device defects past the 14 day return window, bestbuy will not help you even though they have a deal with ASUS to handle RMAs. Best Buy will only send it to Geek Squad and you wont see your device for 15 days. Geek Squad was rude and was angry that I followed ASUS instructions to wipe my device before sending to them. They asked "how are we to test it if you wiped your device?". Just beware the head ache of your device defects.

Ive had it for a few monfhs and ivs been loving it i will say 512 isng enough storage so i upgraded to 2tb!

i was scared to buy an open box product, but everything works great. The refurbish department did a great job with it.
