The performance is not 8.6tflops, but it does play some games at 50-60fps including diablo 4 on lower settings. If you know how to use a computer the experience is flawless. It is not as simple as a steam deck.

Owned for 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am truly disappointed as I wanted to love this, playing any AAA title for more than 15 minutes will make the console uncomfortably hot to the touch. At best, you can run games on medium settings. I’m an avid PC gamer that is used to playing on screens at 120fps or higher. While the screen is 120fps capable, no game will ever reach that and if it did it would probably explode in your hands at a million degrees. I gave it a week and returned it. I wouldn’t even want to guess how poor the experience would be on the lower end, non extreme version. Asus releasing this feels like a mistake, and will most likely be subject to recall after it eventually scolds someone’s hands. I had updated to latest firmwares etc too.

I do understand your disappointment and the inconvenience this may have caused.
It is normal that excessive heat is generated while under heavy load especially during gaming. When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal. While gaming, please ensure no resource hungry applications are running in the background, this will definitely spike the temperature. The heat or temperature does decreases or normalizes once system resource utilization goes down. Please verify the device is running with the most current drivers and BIOS besides Windows update. Keeping the device updated will maintain optimum system performance and will reduce excessive heat generation. Slightly edges out the Legion Go and Steam Deck mostly because those have a portrait screen and no VRR. ASUS control interface (hardware settings) is super slick, no lag.

I have had no problems from day one. I use it for steam and game pass and emulation. Casually some youtube other than that its been a grest handheld pc for me.

Runs Windows 11 and allows for docking to make it the perfect travel companion for gaming or other media needs. Setup is a bit tedious, but all Windows PCs work this way.

I returned the first one for another device. Then the second device for a third device and by the end, I just gave up because the SD card reader just died each time. Other than that it's a phenomenal little device that's a laptop. I did some photo and video editing. It ran games I liked (Red Dead Redemption 2 and Hogwarts). I hooked up a dongle and had it connected to a monitor, keyboard and mouse. It was amazing that I could have that kind of access to basic apps with a device that small. I loved it. Hence the two stars rather than one star. But the SD card reader died. It died three times in three devices. The issue was that the card reader no longer read cards or displayed a I/O error that last time. I did everything except send to ASUS. When I returned it the first time, the lady acknowledged that the ROG Ally was having that issue. The last time I took the device back, the Geek Squad guy did all he could before coming back saying the device was defective. In the end, I just couldn't trust the device anymore regardless of warranties or coverages.

The 120hz 1080p VRR screen is probably the biggest upgrade though. It's very hard to go back to a traditional 60hz display after gaming on high refresh VRR displays for many years.

Pick this up as a mini computer. Use it as an emulator. Use it for steam. Use it for pdfs. Use it for managing your home network. It is great. Just get one already.

It is full fledged Windows and with a 1080p 120hz display you cant go wrong. Can pop in an sd card for my emulation. Performance is incredible. I love the Steam Deck but this is another level. If you are okay with a bit of tinkering yourself you can make windows work for you rather than against you.
