The Ally has had a series of possible hardware issues since launch and because Geek Squad does not take the time to activate Windows and verify all components work correctly, their certification means very little that you are not receiving a defective product. In my case the right joystick would not register anything and either the original customer who returned it was dishonest or Best Buy does not care enough to track what was wrong and puts things back out for sale knowing they are defective. I hate to detract from what looks like an awesome 1st generation product, but this goes to show quality control issues from ASUS and the poor attention Best Buy pays to "refurbishing" Open Box items like this.

But if you're looking for a powerful handheld device that can play your games like how you play them on your gaming pc? You'd be a little disappointed. But if you have that in mind, everything else is good about this product. Can do everything a pc can do. Just don't expect too much.

Expect the usual Windows 11 nonsense when you first set it up. Do all the updates before you play games, the latest BIOS update has slightly more aggressive fan curves and will prevent the device from running as hot as it would without them. I recommend getting a 100w USB C charger and a 10ft 100w USB C cable to get the most out of it. The supplied charger has a fixed cable. Not all 65W aftermarket chargers will allow it to run in 30w "Turbo" mode.
