Closest thing to a handheld xbox device
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really great device, runs games very well considering its a handheld, and it runs even better when plugged into the charger. It does eat up the battery depending on the game you're running though. The controller is the same as an xbox controller with 2 extra customizable buttons in the back, and you can remap the controller for any pc game that doesn't already have controller support or just change the button imputs per individual game if they didnt already. My favorite aspect and sort of the whole reason i bought it however is that it runs windows so you can use other game stores like xbox which syncs your achievements and even progress for xbox play anywhere games like starfield. And with gamepass, you get even more games to play without having to rebuy them on the pc platform. I do recommend buying an ssd to upgrade the stroage as mine was only 500gb, and nowadays that only fits 3 AAA games.

Recommend as a computer not just a handheld
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Rog ally z1 extrame has the performance to be a good PC not just a good handheld although with the RGB lighting tasteful included it can even tell you the thermals or the usage of your CPU you can also turn it off for late night gaming . The audio is also immersive and sound amazing. l love that it includes gamepass so l can play Halo or cozy games like A Little To The Left it also great for emulation and in general most games run good and look good on the screen

Great for gaming on the go...almost
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A good option for gaming on the go and a great alternative to the steam deck. I love that it's running windows tablet which makes running emulators easy. I've run games such as Hogwarts Legacy, Stray, Stardew Valley and everything in-between. I am able to keep several larger games downloaded and play more via game streaming on steam from my PC. My only complaint is the battery life which varies greatly depending on what you're playing (of course). If you're going on a long trip make sure it's fully charged and you have a strong charger with you for the car ride.

Good Concept, poor execution and rushed. Beware!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. On paper, the Asus ROG Ally had all the specs right and it's a beautiful device however on actual application it was a disaster waiting to happen. My experience with it was great at start, everything ran better than on the steam deck but is plaqued by poor battery life, you're at the mercy of windows to handle updates and it's not really optimized for this type of device. The armory create software is buggy and unresponsive at times. It's getting the 1 star rating because it was rushed, there's reports of SD cards burning out and failing due to the heat being produced. Asus didn't really do a good job with planning for heat distribution here and I overheard that I wasn't the only one returning it, that others have as well, which is why you'll see open-box ones on best buy so early on. Sadly I did not want to end up with a $700 brick down the road or with a device that gets nerfed via performance lowering updates just to deal with the heat issues. I can't recommend this device as is. Maybe there's a revision down the line from ASUS but will not help the early adopters that are taking a chance on this system. The accessory that allows for an external GPU is way too overpriced and the power plug that has the HDMI should've honestly been included by default. My hope is Asus takes notes and makes a better device in the future because there is a market for these.

Couch Gaming
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Couch gaming has never been so good. The only problem is the lackluster battery life and how cumbersome windows is on a handheld. Other than that fantastic system and fantastic speakers.

Blows me away each day - Daily use no problems
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely the best purchase I've made in gaming since I built my own first pc back in like 2012. This thing amazes me. I have taken this thing on trips recently and used it at other houses in place of my full pc setup - with the help of mouse, keyboard, and screen. This thing seemlessly runs newer games - I have ran Diablo 4, World of warcraft, and Spiderman-remastered on this in both the handheld mode, and desktop mode with a spare 24" 1080p 60 hz monitor. Through the app that helps control it, it is showing me at an average of about 70 fps in most titles - Spiderman remastered is getting around 65 FPS, I have this game preset on their high settings. I was on the fence getting this as I did not know if I would use it much - I have been so blown away that I look for reasons TO use it now as it is such a pleasure. I have probably put over 60 hours of diablo in the past week and a half on this because I have been staying out of town. I couldn't be happier with this product and I am blown away about it's capabilities. If you are on the fence, Just DO IT

A PC Gamer's dream come true
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TLDR: This device is a love letter for PC Gamers If you're thinking of buying this you need to ask yourself first these four questions: 1. Are you a person who enjoys tinkering with your gadgets to get the most out of it? 2. You don't have the Steam Deck yet? 3. Are you okay to play AAA games in short time bursts (1-2hrs) when mobile? 4. Do you imagine yourself docking this machine to a larger screen for a full PC-like experience? If you answer 'Yes' to all of those questions, then yes you will definitely enjoy the Asus ROG Ally. At its current state, this is "NOT" a Game Console which you can just pick up and play games. The Ally requires tinkering and some PC know-how for it to fully unlock its capabilities. The tinkering part for me was fun and I considered it a part of the unboxing experience. But once you have pressed the right buttons and levers on this thing, you will be blown away by its performance. When docked, this thing pretty much replaced my laptop. Having the capability of being able to play Diablo 4 on my desk with keyboard & mouse and then unplug to continue on the go is an awesome experience.

ROG ALLY REVIEW AFTER OVER A WEEK USING IT.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been playing with the Rog ally for more than a week now I can tell you from a customers perspective it is incredible. The performance is great and most of the bad reviews are about how it is a hassle to set up so I would just ignore the reviews about battery as long as you don’t mind a few frustrating hours updating it. Also, asus is putting new software updates every other day so they are continuing to support it. I ordered on May 11th and was seriously considering canceling my preorder and I am so glad I didn’t. I have a steam deck which I love using and also which I play on but ever since I got the ally I have only been using the ally. The rog ally does come with its cons but in my opinion the pros heavily outweigh the cons. One main thing I agree with the battery life is not great. It is not atrocious but just not fantastic, but I get a good amount of playing time before I have to charge the device and I only play demanding AAA games. If you are reading this and on the fence about buying the rog ally or not I hope some of what I said helps you decide.

Gaming Laptop Replacement!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had the Ally for over a month now and enjoy using it almost daily to play my steam, windows, EA, and Epic games anywhere in the house. Performance is great out of the box and ASUS puts out regular updates that help with QoL improvements their software and performance tweaking. Since it runs Windows 11 there was almost no learning curve to getting my games and launchers installed. The device feels great in my hands (better than a Switch in my opinion) and my only concern when playing is how long my battery will last. Fortunately the Ally has a TON of power and performance options that can be used to squeeze out extra FPS or stretch the battery life as far as possible! For example you can turn the power down to 10W and lower the screen resolution to 720p and be able to run a game for 2-2 1/2 hours on battery, or plug it in and run a game at 30W+ at 1080p! The display on the Ally will look great at both resolutions and features 120hz refresh with VRR for a smooth experience even at lower framerates.

ROG Ally Pros and cons
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This device is such a game changer for me! I travel often for vacations, go to friends/girlfriends house, ect. It plays AAA title like BO3, MK11, and Elden Ring flawlessly with some setup difficulties. But it plays em great! It also plays Indie games like a charm! The screen quality is amazing, the buttons and joystick feel like good quality, and the fact I can run any game launcher is so nice! There is some bad tho.. The battery life on a game like BO3 with maxed out settings on 1080p is a litttle rough. I get maybe 2 hours on it (But thats still good!). The screen is a fingerprint magnet. After 5 min of going through my settings I had fingerprints allll over it. I carry a screen cleaner with my ROG. Last but probably most important the setup can be a little tedious and hard for newcomers to PC. I feel like Im definitely a above average person with PC knowledge and the setup was still a little bit of a pain. But youtube is your best friend. I would definetly say 10 out of 10 would recommend!

Almost perfect, but still great
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased a steam deck right before this unit was announced. I like the steam deck, but did not like the little extra steps that you had to take that the Ally has integrated in the windows OS. Little differemces, but needless to say, I purchased the Ally, and ended up liking it better than the steam deck. Strictly based on personal preference. They're both great units, but the Ally pulls ahead with the little extras, like the slightly better screen resolution, slightly better overall performance when playing the same game on both units. Battery life leaves a lot to be wanted, which takes away from the mobility factor of it, but nothing a battery pack cant fix. Overall, i really like it, so if you can afford the few extra hundred bucks, pick up the Ally instead of the syeam deck.

Must have for the gamer on the go!
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When Elden Ring came out an my Asus ZenBook from 2022 couldn't handle it (at no fault to the PC but the poorly made game at release), but I needed a new device to venture the Lands Between. At the time, Google results left me with the only option of the Asus ROG Ally if I wanted to go handheld, mobile and at top performance with room to grow. Since I'm still a fan of Asus products, it was no doubt a definite purchase for me. Years later and it's awesome. Paired with a powerful high watt battery, I can even play Xbox Game Pass PC Games on the go!

PC powerhouse in the palm of your hands.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok so this is not a handheld gaming device. It’s a PC with a dedicated controller attached. Going in with that in mind, you won’t be disappointed. The ROG Ally offers great performance. It does take some time to setup and optimize to your preferences. Once you get all that done, this thing is indeed to entertain. My only advice is don’t get this to try and run the newest AAA games at the highest settings possible, you will just fry the hardware running at such high temperatures. Obviously it’s a compact handheld so heat dissipation is not very strong. Fine tuning settings and power draw, you will find that sweet spot between temperature and performance. Emulation on this thing is far better than any other handheld in the market. So far it’s been great, everything works as intended.

Absolutely Amazing
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has been a wonderful experience for me to have the opportunity to have both the Steam Deck, and the Asus rog ally. I was so impressed by the Ally that I actually ended up selling my steam deck. The biggest issue I had with the steam deck was game compatibility and ease of side loading other platforms like the Xbox game pass. With the Ally, its the easiest thing in the world because it's running windows. 0 issues running and playing games. My main game I play is Diablo IV and it runs pretty well normal and turbo mode. Yes, the Ally gets very hot, there's a work around at the moment where you can lower the CPU boost and that will decrease the heat significantly, without compromising performance. Like other comments say, the keyboard is a little janky, I agree, but that is more a windows issue than the actual Ally, I'm sure this will be fixed in the future with proper updates for windows, possibly making a more tablet friendly style windows. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase.

ROG Ally, A Gaming Beast
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ROG Ally is amazing. Been using it since release and after updating the BIOS a few times the performance has been great. It can even run some AAA games at 50+ frames on medium and medium-high settings. The fingerprint unlock helps when you want to just load up right into the Armoury Crate launcher. It also works wonders as a replacement PC on the go, just need a wireless keyboard and if you have a spare monitor, mixed with a dock this can turn into a full PC. Some of the game issues I have seen are easily resolved by using settings recommended for the steam deck and even some games using the recommended graphic settings for the deck can have them run at 60 or above. Highly recommend it, and the micro SD slot is extremely easy to access and swap, same with the internal SSD. Another plus is that if you were to swap the internal SSD, Asus has a cloud recovery option to download a windows image and install in the new SSD, no need to create a bootable USB to reinstall windows.

Amazing device for what it is, with only one flaw
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Honestly if youre on the fence about the ROG Ally, just hop over it already. I have used this since day one and I’m oretty much totally satisfied. If you wish you could take your PC to a different house/take your PC with you to somewhere you can sit down and play games like you normally would; this is the perfect device for you. However that one flaw being battery life, if you could game for 3 hours on battery this review would be 5 stars easily. However, youre realistically only going to get about an hour of battery life. But if you wanted a mobile gaming pc and dont want the bulk of a laptop? This is the exact product you wanna buy and you wont regret it (as long as youre okay with windows, trust me its not that bad).

As Awesome as you think
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ROG is an awesome hand held. It really is a mini PC in your hands. If I only had 700 to spend on a console and did not have any other gaming device I would truly consider buying this instead of a xbox playstation switch or gaming pc. It can take the place of all three to some degree. Not as powerful, but can pretty much play any game you want with performance tweaks. The only issue is the interface takes getting used to and there are some updates out of the box. I would also buy this over a steam deck because it does not lock you into one system that requires you to perform a bunch of work arounds. The system works with everything game pass, xbox streaming, playstation streaming, geforce now, steam, epic..etc. No regrets. The one big knock is battery life. About 2 hours. Not a deal killer for me because I am plugged in 95% of the time, but something to consider but from what I hear all these pc type device have poor battery.

Best handheld gaming device hands down.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just writing my review for the ASUS Rog Ally. First of all, this is by far the best handheld/portable gaming device when it comes to performance specs on the entire market currently. Upgraded ryzen processor(noteably better than steamdecks current), DDR5 ram (great/modern ram), also a 120hz display, modern onboard graphics, and the option to add on an external GPU which can transfer over to a bigger display, increase performance, and able to add more devices like a mouse/keyboard. Pros would be the convenience and the performance. Cons would include users computer knowledge and functionality may limit someones experience. Basicaly it takes time to learn how to get everything running thr way you want. Diablo 4 and Mmorpgs run great.

Solid Performance, Requires Careful Handling
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5) Review: The ROG Ally is a versatile handheld device that runs smoothly across multiple Windows platforms. It delivers solid performance and supports a wide range of games with good play time. However, it's not the most durable thumbsticks can become faulty even after a minor fall, so handle with care. The slick chassis can also make it a bit slippery during longer sessions. I highly recommend it for tech-savvy users who are comfortable with regular maintenance, updates, firmware installs, and careful device handling. With the right attention, it's a powerful gaming companion.
