The specs for this device are amazing. When it works, it works great! I understood buying a Windows device would have some learning curves, but ASUS doesnt do any favors with its software packages. I shouldn’t have to use three or four apps to update the entire system. Battery life is decent considering games like Elden Ring run at 40+ fps. You can tweak things around and obtain longer battery life. Several YouTube videos and third party apps later all the settings line up to make the device perform like ASUS software should have. Overall, if you dont mind to tinker this thing is great. If you want “console like plug and play” the Steam Deck would be better.

ROG ally is a cool handheld console / mini PC

I watched many reviews on youtube before decided on getting one and I dont regret my decision at all. Beside of being used as gaming console, I also use it as PC. It is powerful for its size and the fan noise is actually very low, unlike my 5 years old gaming laptop that under heavy gaming the fan noise sounds like jet engine. If you're in budget and deciding between gaming laptop or ROG ally, i will recommend getting a gaming laptop over ROG ally because you get bigger screen and better GPU (rtx 3050 series at best) with costs of $00-200 more than the ROG ally. But if you already have a gaming laptop abd just want something unique, ROG ally is the best choice

This thing is a beast. The only downfall is of course the battery life. But it was designed to be used while plugged in. The right settings will net you 2 to 3 hours of play time on one charge. Or you can pick up a power bank.. this thing will run any game thrown at it, ps5,steam,xbox. Overall, myself being an xbox user, this makes it easy to travel to and from work and the ability of remote play means i do not have to lug my series x with me every where 2 times a month when i fly to and from work. Must buy.

ASUS has finally released a Steam Deck competitor, however, the performance, while better than the Deck, is still lackluster compared to expectations. The build quality is quite premium, the screen looks awesome, the triggers and joysticks have a good feel to them, it even has a fingerprint sensor for easy sign-in; physically, the Ally is extremely high quality. The performance is not what I had expected. With a slogan such as "Play ALL your games," I figured an e-sports title such as Overwatch 2 shouldn't be an issue, however, at 720p low settings at the 25w turbo mode I am churning along at 30-40fps with 1% and 0.1% lows at 8fps and 5fps respectively. 25w mode is the highest performance mode it can achieve while not connected to power via its 65w usb c charger, and it drains the battery in minutes via hours when in that mode. I use it while on my breaks at work, which total 1 hour per day, and it is dead by the time I get off. When in 10w "silent" mode it has very poor performance, good enough for some games, but not those that I mostly play, at least. With time these things will get better and better, and I applaud ASUS for the bold move, but maybe I'll wait to buy again for a couple for years at least.

    Pretty amazing

It is still a surprisingly powerful device. It can run all older games without any compromise, newer games can run with higher fps with some graphic downgrades. It is amazing to be able to play PC games while not being tied to the desk. Navigating windows using a relatively small screen and touch controls sometimes is pretty cumbersome. Some ui elements sometimes do not display correctly or are beyond the screen limits. The main downside is battery life. It lasts a little over an hour when using full power of its hardware. You can get around 2-3 hours with reduced settings. This problem is solved with a good power bank, which can double the runtime of this device. Another issue is I guess you could call quality control. Right speaker has an intermittent issue of working at a reduced volume, which started happening from almost the day of the purchase. Software updates could not fix the problem. These devices also have problems with memory cards and card readers, since they fail at a high rate because of overheating due to poor placement. I discovered that my card reader did not work few months after the purchase, when I decided to expand the storage. Currently my ally is in service to address these two issues, hopefully it will come out fixed. Turnover time is up to 4 weeks, so keep that in mind.

One if the best handheld gaming units i have

This is a great handheld unit. Small and portable with very great graphics performance. I had purchased mine and first thing i did was upgrading the nvme drive to 2tb it was very easy to do. Downfall is the micro sd cards fry in every unit. Google before using the slot ,you do not need to use the slot if you upgrade the drive as sd slots are way slower then the internal drive. As for games i am using the utra game pass and every game runs smoothly on graphic intense games and stays cool. This is my second best unit, my first is my onexplayer 2 which is about three times the cost but to me wort the money as you can use it as a windows 11 pc.

So out of the box I was extremely impressed, the ROG Ally feels great in the hand. I booted it up and everything felt familiar. I've owned it for five months now and I have to say I love this thing. It plays AAA games just fine and with the upcoming addition of AFMF 2 from AMD it'll get even better. I absolutely recommend the ROG Ally if you're looking for a great all around handheld.

The ALLY runs windows which means you will run into a lot of finicky stuff with the OS. Sometimes the controllers work, sometimes you have to get them to work. Runs games well and has a pretty good screen. Personally, extremely uncomfortable to hold in my hands and has very poor battery life.

I mainly use this for work on my lunch break or if I am at home with the kids and don’t have the luxury to enjoy myself at my desk on my actual gaming computer. It’s very convenient for traveling or for Just on the go use. The only drawback I have is the battery life went running at 25 Watts. It’s not that long but you do get decent time out of it when running some of the older games that only require 10 W or less the battery life is very impressive. I have a steam deck and a Lenovo legion go. I would definitely put this at the front of the three.

This thing is great, i dont get alot of gaming time and needed something to be ultra portable and allow me to play my games, thus fit the bill perfectly and runs everything. But then, i bought a dock and started using it as my everyday desktop. While its not as powerful as the laptop its replacing its powerful enough to play all the games i want and br s dedicated pc. So. I sold my laptop and now i have an ultra portable pc/ gaming rig i can take anywhere and play what i want.

It does exactly as advertised. Plays Pc games on the go, it does it quite well. It has a limited HDD and video card; but with cloud gaming honestly it can play almost anything on the go as long as you have internet. I think the best experience is honestly using it to cloud game with xbox cloud gaming. You can use Geforce sub service to play high end games on this FYI. The fact it lets you run windows IMO is what really opens up the options. My only gripe really is the out of the box charger is short as heck, maybe 5 feet. You can use some other USB chargers just make sure you pay attention to the charge requirements

I switched from using a Steam Deck to the ROG Ally so I could have a handheld that worked better across different launchers such as Epic, EA, and GamePass and have not been disappointed at all. I have not had any issues with the micro SD reader and the Ally has been able to run every game I've installed on it without any issues. The onboard speakers have great sound quality as well. The biggest thing I miss from the Steam Deck is the trackpads, but that's something I can live without.

I have had my Ally for about two weeks and I’ve really enjoyed it. I use mine as a handheld only so I can’t speak on having it docked, but it’s been great to take with me on the go. I have had no issues with Armory Crate or any of the ASUS software. Windows 11 is a different story, it requires some tweaking to make it more friendly to the memory limitations and remove unnecessary bloat. The battery life is not good so if you are planning on playing more than 1-1.5 hours, you will need an external battery.

I have been using the Ally for around a month it is a convenient way to play games on the go newer games perform best at 720p medium settings while older games do well at 1080p high settings. The battery life could be better but it is not to terrible. The 512gb M.2 fills up quickly would suguest upgrading it. I would not replace my PC for this this is a nice little device to use on the side but not a computer replacement if you want to play a few games and run emulations it would be perfect for that.

So after pre-ordering the 512 gb version of the steam deck last year and testing it with my favorite RE engine games like resident Evil 2 remake and DMC 5 (RE4 had not yet been released) since those games tend to serve as a solid benchmark for how well a mobile device will run a good looking game compared to it's console/pc counterpaarts along with their incredible optimization across multi platfors, i was incredibly disappointed with both how terrible these games ran and how poor the ui was and I of all people should have seen it coming. As an owner of the PS5, Xbox seres x, Nintendo switch and a custom built desktop equiped with a 3090 and an i9 processor i was not expecting the deck to come close to the performance of some of my more stationary hardware, but thats par for the course when portability. That being said, the 720p resolution, 60hz display made playing any games (it was barely able to run the aforementioned RE games at a consistent 30 fps) let alone the more hardware intensive ones pretty much unenjoyable. Coming from a developer like valve, ot was heartbreaking since ive always wanted the predecessor to the psp or ps vita but with the option to play non exclusive games. Enter Asus ROG ally. As soon as i opems the box, the eloquent design, 360 inspired controls, and overall feeling of joy that the deck simply lacked, came flooofing jn. Thats its until I found out about the hours and hours worth of software updates required before you can even begin to install steam let alone play a game. Fast forward to 2 hours and i finally have steam, xbox, epic games and all the necessary windows essentials (btw the ally runs on full windows 11 how crazy is that) fired up and ready to go. I fire up the re4 remake this time and very little things tend to blow me away hardware wise but my God, Re4 ran so incredibly well at high settings with a solid 70+ fps that i completely stopped playing on my desktop altogether, purchased the dock that connects to a monitor/tv and made this my main gaming device. Add to that the favt that when i was showing itnoff to a friend, i realized the ally aupports up to 4 player game play amd sixne it runs windows, all controllers/mouse and keyboards are welcome! We had a 65 inch oled tv right above us but chose to play coop on this device instead! I cannot underestimate what ASUS has pulled off here and ive barely scratched the surface (the armory crate software deserves a review of its own). Not only is this, but the potential for the future of the device is basically limitless considering its windows based software and future proof hardware (the z1 extreme puts most gaming laptops and even desktops to shame). All i can say as a hardcore gaming hardware enthusiast, Asus absolutely knocked this one out of the park and if you are interested in a decent gaming laptop or even desktop, stop searching and pay the $700 for this device and call it a day! My only complaint is that the $70 should come with the device as many like myself would ideally lile to enjoy their games on their TV's without having to find a third party doxk or lose battery. That being said, this is an absolute must buy for any gamer or someone looking imto getting a gaming laptop ot desktop as this covers all necessary categories and more! ASUS, i salute you!

Bought the rog ally to be able to game on the go and i couldn't ve more happy. I'm a few weeks in and so far zero complaints. It is literally a handheld pc with wondows 11 on it. It is technically my first gaming pc as I have always been a console user so if the idea of switching to pc scares you don't let it stop you if your on the fence. Some of the triple A games i have run are beyond the ps4's capability and almost on par woth the ps5 and its a handheld! The obly down side is battery will drain fast when playing demanding games but if you buy a 65w battery pack you can extend playtime quite a bit. Overall 9/10

I have this and was one of the first ones thst was able to get the Steamdeck within the first year launch as I was on Q2 for shipment. I played thr Deck a ton as well. Since I’ve gotten an Ally, I havent touched my deck since. The Ally is more powerful for sure. I’ve compared both systems for gamss and the Ally outperforms it on every game I’ve tried. The screen looks amazing too. It is a windows so it will require a little on the users end to get it updated and such. A lot of bad revoews are coming from console users moving onto a windows system and its not user friendly. Im used to windows so setupand navigating was easy for me. 10/10 purchase for me
