The Rog ally z1 extrame has the performance to be a good PC not just a good handheld although with the RGB lighting tasteful included it can even tell you the thermals or the usage of your CPU you can also turn it off for late night gaming . The audio is also immersive and sound amazing. l love that it includes gamepass so l can play Halo or cozy games like A Little To The Left it also great for emulation and in general most games run good and look good on the screen

Amazing device for what it is, with only one flaw

Honestly if youre on the fence about the ROG Ally, just hop over it already. I have used this since day one and I’m oretty much totally satisfied. If you wish you could take your PC to a different house/take your PC with you to somewhere you can sit down and play games like you normally would; this is the perfect device for you. However that one flaw being battery life, if you could game for 3 hours on battery this review would be 5 stars easily. However, youre realistically only going to get about an hour of battery life. But if you wanted a mobile gaming pc and dont want the bulk of a laptop? This is the exact product you wanna buy and you wont regret it (as long as youre okay with windows, trust me its not that bad).

The ROG is an awesome hand held. It really is a mini PC in your hands. If I only had 700 to spend on a console and did not have any other gaming device I would truly consider buying this instead of a xbox playstation switch or gaming pc. It can take the place of all three to some degree. Not as powerful, but can pretty much play any game you want with performance tweaks. The only issue is the interface takes getting used to and there are some updates out of the box. I would also buy this over a steam deck because it does not lock you into one system that requires you to perform a bunch of work arounds. The system works with everything game pass, xbox streaming, playstation streaming, geforce now, steam, epic..etc. No regrets. The one big knock is battery life. About 2 hours. Not a deal killer for me because I am plugged in 95% of the time, but something to consider but from what I hear all these pc type device have poor battery.

Just writing my review for the ASUS Rog Ally. First of all, this is by far the best handheld/portable gaming device when it comes to performance specs on the entire market currently. Upgraded ryzen processor(noteably better than steamdecks current), DDR5 ram (great/modern ram), also a 120hz display, modern onboard graphics, and the option to add on an external GPU which can transfer over to a bigger display, increase performance, and able to add more devices like a mouse/keyboard. Pros would be the convenience and the performance. Cons would include users computer knowledge and functionality may limit someones experience. Basicaly it takes time to learn how to get everything running thr way you want. Diablo 4 and Mmorpgs run great.

    Powerful and Just Portable Enough

Overall -Would absolutely recommend, though it has its quirks. The Good -This device is POWERFUL. Compared to the Switch OLED, the Rog Ally Z1E provides an experience with few compromises when it comes to performance. The 7-inch screen, paired with 120Hz at 1080p, delivers a crisp image. Additionally, it can run a range of AAA games like Monster Hunter World/Rise, Resident Evil, etc., making it a great companion to a dedicated gaming PC. It’s worth mentioning that this performance comes at a steep cost. When playing demanding games, expect very short battery life. Depending on your use case, this could be a non-factor, or it could be a big issue (e.g., long plane ride with power outlets, no worries; car ride, you may need a power bank). Fortunately, less demanding games can run much longer, so indies and emulated games work well when you don’t have backup power. This trade-off exists with all handheld gaming, though, so regardless of the device, you’ll eventually have to consider it. The Bad -The joysticks aren’t great. You can definitely get used to them, but if you’re jumping between consoles, you might notice they feel like lower quality. It may be best to consider the SD card slot DOA, as it seems to fry easily. I never bothered buying a card just to check. Which leads to general storage: 512GB is technically plenty, but you'll need to plan accordingly before a long trip. Lastly, Windows 11 seemed fine mostly, outside of poorly timed updates. If you'd prefer, you can always boot Steam OS instead. The Unfortunate After a night of playing, I left my device on the charger. The next day, it refused to turn on at all. After hours of troubleshooting, it completely bricked itself and didn’t respond to anything (charging cables, power button, etc.). I doubt you can expect this to happen, but it was frustrating when it occurred just 6 days after my warranty expired. Final Thoughts -Overall, despite a few inconvenient quirks, I think it’s a great device that offers above-average performance, so long as you’re willing to understand its shortcomings and plan around them.

When Elden Ring came out an my Asus ZenBook from 2022 couldn't handle it (at no fault to the PC but the poorly made game at release), but I needed a new device to venture the Lands Between. At the time, Google results left me with the only option of the Asus ROG Ally if I wanted to go handheld, mobile and at top performance with room to grow. Since I'm still a fan of Asus products, it was no doubt a definite purchase for me. Years later and it's awesome. Paired with a powerful high watt battery, I can even play Xbox Game Pass PC Games on the go!

I bought this in June and have not regretted the purchase! Based on what I have heard of the Steam Deck, and my experience with this handheld, this is the much better of the two. I have played serveral different AAA games on it and have so far only had problems with a little bit of lag on Hogwarts Legacy. It is highly customizable, and the fingerprint sensor/power button functions extremely well. It takes a moment to get used to switching between the actual desktop when you are in-game, but i haven't experienced any glitches. The speakers are fantastic, and load time is great. There is no deduction in quality when connected to a tv via an HDMI cable. My Xbox and usb controllers connect flawlessly and easily. The only downside is the battery life, which is to be expected because of the amount of power required to run any gaming device. I typically keep mine plugged in while I'm playing anyways. Get one.

I've had this a little over a month now and have barely put it down. The amount of customization available lets me play almost anything I have or want on the device. Between emulation and connecting my steam, epic, and xbox game pass it is probably my favorite system now to play games on. Installing most games automatically adds them to the armourcrate app for extremely simple start ups, and have only ran into maybe 1 emulated game where the controls didn't automatically detect and work with the handheld inputs. While the battery life is far from great, it hasn't been an issue at all for me but for those wanting to use it away from any kind of power source it definitely should be kept in mind as depending on the game you can drain the battery in a couple hours.

So I’m not the biggest windows fan I’ll start with that I’m Apple everything I only use windows at work. So with that being said I really like this product for gaming purposes which is exactly what I personally bought it for not the handheld PC that it’s also capable of. Only complaint I have which I’m sure you’ll hear from everyone that’s purchased the ROG Ally is the battery life, it’s pretty bad if you’re trying to game for more than and hour and a half or two on the go. For me it’s not bad because I rarely don’t have an outlet by me. When I’m on the go I have a battery pack I hook up to and it gives me extra playing time til I get to my destination. I can’t really tell you if all the specs are up to par as that’s a big selling point for it but I can say the screen and game play are beautiful. I also don’t own a steam deck so I couldn’t say if it’s better or not.

    A Slight Miss, But Close.

The first thing you notice the screen, it is excellent. However, upon booting the system up for the first time you will notice little user interfaces that I don't understand how they got past QA. For example, during one of the first pages of setup you are instructed to connect to WiFi, and no on screen prompts or manual in the box tells you how to pull the keyboard up. Searching the web took two seconds to find the obscure button combo, but that is literally in the in the main Windows setup flow. From there, all of the additional software ASUS adds on top of Windows to try to optimize it simply ends up killing battery life and slowing the device down in general. I really wanted to like this device over my Steam Deck due to it's 1080p 120hz screen, but found it hard to get many games to hit those specs consistently without using Radeon FSR (which can quickly tank your resolution and quality to keep frame rates up). I did a side by side with Diablo 4 (Ally running it native and Steam Deck running it through wine+proton+Lutris) and while I could get a slightly better image and framerate on the Ally, the APU was needing to be set on the highest power mode, which would kill the battery in 60-90 minutes easily. I like the idea and look forward to version 2. But currently there are just too many little bugs, excessive ATI/AMD software loaded on top of Windows (which is already bloated itself), very light joysticks with odd dead zones, a mushy d-pad, and speaker support that would bug out from mono to stereo at random times. I was hoping this would be a solid replacement for my Steam Deck, but unfortunately it just falls a little short and the platform is not mature enough yet.

I went back and fourth between buying this or the steam deck. I decided onnthe Rog ally. I have had the device i think 2 weeks or so and j cant be happier it plays all the games i want to play and will happily play anything onnthe market today. Cyber punk for reference. I have heard of the issues that bother the device. I haven't experienced any of those problems as of yet. Teething problems with any new product. I also use it on my tv via the ROG dock/plug. Its basically a plug but works great. Give it Go you wont be disappointed. My only issue is battery life. Its not as long when on the go. But i already knew this so doesn't bother me.

Overall I love it when you can get it on sale or an Open-box because the original price is just not worth it. Using the product though I must say Im able to play many FPS, and the many hoyoverse games out there. I currently pair this with my lapdock and use this as a laptop replacement and works out great! The only thing i would say they could improve on this is a better battery. I find myself reaching for the charger after 1.5 of using the device when its not docked. Like i mentioned i would recommend if you can get a good price, but i love this thing and use any chance i get.

My wife got me this for Father’s Day and it has been perfect for killing time on flights and in down time on vacation. My only complaint is that since it’s windows 11 it has normal windows 11 issues. Easily can replace your pc with how convenient it is. I also have a x17 laptop that hasn’t been games on since I got it because it’s nice to play just laying in bed. It’s a great emulator machine as well if you like classics games and don’t want to hassle with the n64 carts. 9/10 would recommend, battery life isn’t the best but I got an hour and a half time on a low power setting game and had 75% left when that flight landed. Definitely buy a good 30w supply power bank for like $100-150, the $60 ones don’t cut it unless your a light gamer. Also it can run rust at 45fps on setting you normally wouldn’t play at because bush campers.

So far i am enjoying the portability of this handheld but like most things theres good and bad aspects. I enjoy how the controls are they are very responsive and premium feeling. The power of the device is amazing for something so small ive played single player games with no problems and battle royales like Apex and fortnite at around 75 fps. Obviously not amazing but i didnt get this device expecting it to play games like my desktop. Overall i do believe it should be around $100 cheaper but my complaints are minimal a month in.

With this being my first foray into actual PC gaming, the Ally really is an awesome device. I’ve started building my PC game library and have enjoyed every second I get to play on it. Love the fact that Xbox and Game Pass work seamlessly with it. Wish PS Remote Play didn’t require an additional controller to work but there are apps to work around that. My two biggest gripes are 1. the color, even clean hands leave oils over time. And 2. The battery life. It’s atrocious! Though i am usually able to plug in close by, its a hassle when youre in the heat of a game and the battery decides to go. Besides tbose i really feel its a great handheld.
