Extreme useful as a mobile computer and gaming system. It just runs a little too hot and doesnt hold charge long enough for me to give 5 stars.

It will cook micro sd cards, making so they may get stuck in the console or melt in the console. Game play wise hasn't said no to any game i have played on it.

I thought I'd fall in love with the ROG Ally, but it was a complicated, one-sided relationship at times. I tried to reach out, but communication just wasn't there. Difficult to understand, unwilling to negotiate, doesn't look me in the eyes anymore. But that's okay, because now I'm setting my sights on other handhelds, and the Ally will see what it's missing. A handheld that understands me and meets me at my level of intellect (it was honestly just too complicated for me)

ASUS has come in to the handheld segment just right. I have the Steam Deck and the GPD Win Max 2 6800u... performance the Ally is the winner. I play mostly shooters on my devices. Upgraded the ssd easier than the steam deck. About comparable battery life running higher than 720p.

It pains me to give this 3 stars, ideally it could be a 4.5, but I’m going to get into it here. I have had many gaming laptops, desktops and a steam deck. It seems clear to me that these are fairly cheaply made and software needs work. First the software and performance : the asus software and the easy access to helpful controls is very nice, and overall the interface and controls just on the desktop work great and I like how they have this device set up, especially after using a steam deck I was thinking it would be hard for a windows device to match or get close to the user friendly handheld interface of the steam deck, but I think this device did a great job. However, I am getting simple applications like steam, pcsx2 and even task manager freezing on me currently and it’s frustrating at times. It doesn’t happen enough for me to freak out and contact support yet, but it is noticeable and there is definitely something wrong in the software. That being said, when it’s not freezing, the performance is fantastic and running games off an sd card haven’t been a problem so far. Build quality and design: The materials don’t feel like anything special to me, actually feel like a cheaper plastic than the steam deck, especially the buttons. The sticks and buttons feel very cheap and disappointing, but they work fine. The thermals design seems to be very good and the device feels better in the hands than a steam deck, a little smaller, and doesn’t get as hot. The touch screen works well, but mine has a very small dead spot(or bleed spot?) that you can only see on a black screen, and it’s so small you would never know just glancing at it, but it’s still there…you get it. A huge complaint I have with the design is that the right stick is a little too low where it’s more under my thumb knuckle instead of my thumb pad if that makes sense. So you have an awkward angle to use it, It’s Not a deal breaker but worth mentioning. Another problem I have with the sticks is that they are in a dugout bay which is a dust trap if you work much with electronics, and to make it worse, if you move the stick all the way to one side you can just slightly see through the to the motherboard through the side, so the dust may get inside easier, but I may just be paranoid. Another small complaint is the usbc port not being by itself makes it harder to plug in in the dark. Conclusion: While I love the performance, look, and interface on this device, I had to dock it due to a manufacturing error and just cheaply made components, like of all things to cheap out on, why the buttons!? Overall though I would recommend it at the price if you don’t want to spend over a grand. Hopefully with firmware updates some of my issues will clear up. It is absolutely a pleasurable experience to use this device, when working properly, and I am very much enjoying it.

he Steam Deck Killer? Meet ROG Ally

Just got my hands on the ROG Ally and it absolutely rips through AAA games at 120Hz—on a handheld! The Ryzen Z1 Extreme makes this feel more like a pocket-sized gaming PC than a console. If the Steam Deck had a big brother with Windows and better graphics, this would be it.

Really enjoying the Ally! I’m new to PC gaming so it’s been a bit of a learning curve with some aspects of the device but overall it’s been great. No issues with the Ally whatsoever. Anything I’ve struggled with just took a bit of time and patience along with a lot of YouTube and the official ROG Ally Discord. I know some buyers have had legitimate hardware issues. I think many folks bought one expecting a game console-like experience and unfortunately they got more than they expected. For longtime PC Gamers, they knew what they were getting into. The gamers that didn’t have the patience to learn the Ally’s ins and outs are the ones returning or exchanging the Ally thinking is something is wrong but more than likely is just user error. TheSteamdeck also had growing pains when it was released a year ago. Those who were patient and stuck with watched the Deck get better with time. Same will happen with the Ally. Patience and understanding is key.

This hand held is quite literally everything I've ever wanted. It's a switch and gaming PC all in one. I can emulate everything up through PS3 flawlessly. And I'm even playing BRAND NEW PC TITLES like Jedi Survivor at 40FPS in medium settings. It's crazy. LOVE this thing

Just returned. Setup and updating took a while. Performance and screen were great, but the armory crate menus were so clunky and froze. I expected bad battery life, but this was worse than I could have prepared for. Sticking with my steam deck when/if ASUS releases some fixes or has an inevitable pro version in a few months. I know they don’t have the best track record with customer service though

      Dear JamesL,

We do understand your disappointment and the inconvenience.

Usually, the system freeze or stability issues with the device are resolved by a BIOS update. Also, making sure Windows and drivers are up to date. BIOS and drivers are posted at: https://rog.asus.com/ph/gaming-handhelds/rog-ally/rog-ally-2023/helpdesk_download/. While accessing cloud games or web applications, please ensure the unit has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since poor and unstable internet connection will definitely affect system speed and performance.

If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and I would be happy to help. Or, you are most welcome to call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent from the link: https://www.asus.com/us/support/article/1135/.

Windows is both the ROG Ally’s biggest strenth and weakness, in my opinion. Native compatibility with all the various digital storefronts is obviously a big one-up on the Steam Deck, but there’s no denying that the Deck has a more streamlined interface and intuitive user experience. Neither one is as dead simple as a PS5 or Xbox, but it took me significantly longer to get the Ally up and running than when I originally setup my Steam Deck. That said, the ROG Ally is clearly superior in horsepower, and the native compatibility with all the digital storefronts (not to mention PC Game Pass) means its the better choice in my book.

Way better than a steam deck. It’s a simple windows computer operated with a controller. It runs a lot of games on high and ultra setting without any problems. Battery is not amazing but it’s performance makes up for it.
