I bought this near the initial launch, and saw lots of reviews about bad hardware. Coming to report nearly a year later to report ASUS has continually updated the machine, and it's been an absolute pleasure to use. I upgraded the storage to a 2TB NVME, and it was really easy to do yourself. Battery life is pretty bad (~1.5-2 hours on highest performance setting), but that's honestly to be expected.

To be fair, the ROG Ally is a very good gaming handheld but after using for a few days I returned it and got a full refund (thank you Best Buy!). The system just didn't feel right and using Windows on such a small screen was unpleasant. But that was me so don't be dissuaded by my impressions. In many ways it's superior to the Steam Deck that I ultimately ended up buying.

Has become my primary PC, gaming or otherwise. Recommend getting a dock.

Pros: 1) Excellent screen & image quality; 2) Impressive performance in a small body; 3) Comfortable to hold. Cons: 1) Windows 11 performance; 2) Hit-or-miss ASUS software integration with Windows; 3) Bootup problems caused by software updates. I’m giving it 2 stars becasue the hardware is truly impressive. However, I don’t think the software has matured enough yet. I had this for exactly two days before experiencing a continuous boot loop that prevented me from even entering the BIOS. I had to let it rest for 24 hours before trying again. It seems to be working fine now, but not a good start. I plan on returning this product.

In my eyes this is the best handheld computer gaming system. It's got your gamer RGB lights. Easy to set up, easy to upgrade and work on if needed. The screen resolution is amazing it feels like the perfect size I wasn't all that happy with the steam deck size this feels better in my hands. The one downfall I've been reading about these is that the SD card reader burns out so if you need to upgrade storage it has to be INTERNAL besides that. Amazing product definitely recommend

Not 5 stars because of a glaring problem with the SD card. Reader does not work, this is a design defect which requires that the system be returned to ASUS to fix. Don't expect easy external storage.

I am really amazed about the performance and playing all my games from my gaming laptop without carrying my have gaming laptop. If you arw planning to buy a handheld gaming pc choose this one there is another one comming out next month the only reason. I dis not chose it because it has the same processor and performance except for battery, and additional type c port.

Light weight easy to use and the brightness is great. Only con is rhe battery life but that is expected from a high performance sevice

Overall it is a great device, and just because it can run most games at decent graphics, doesnt mean you should. The battery life is atrocious, and it lacks the ability to smoothly play any modern triple a game. If you have a good internet connection it is great for Xbox Cloud Streaming, but for that logitech has a much cheaper solution.

works great, games look great. little tedious working the desktop but once you have stuff installed it's great

I LOVE this device. Performance is great. OS is snappy. Cooling is very good. Temps do get high ~95 under full load, but this pulls down almost immediately once full load is no longer. COD MW2 - 720p Low. 85-100fps. Battlefield V sees around 75-80 fps on low 720p. I sold gaming laptop in favor of a gaming desktop but still wanted something portable. This fit the bill and then some. Was an even better value as open box on top of the current sale price.

I got this with the steamdeck . It totally 2 different machines, steam perfect for daily gaming like grab&go but some of the games can’t play on steam (ex Forza5, cyberpunk lacking alots , GoW running really bad during graphic…) . Ally is different animals can be played them all cause base on pc running both versions steam and xboxpass. They both still amazing machines for me .

The first one I bought came with a dead charging brick. I had to exchange the whole thing and get a new Ally. As far as the unit itself, it worked as intended for the 10 days I had it. I ended up returning it and getting a Steam Deck OLED. Yes it less powerful but it feels so much bettter in the hands, has a better screen, the build quality is superior, and I’m not constantly worried about the Ally breaking (many issues have been reported) and having to deal with Asus support. The Ally, for me, felt rushed, cheap, and unfinished. While I didn’t have any major problems, other then the charger, and 512GB not being enough space, for the price, the thing doesn’t even come with a cleaning cloth or a case. I also got tired of using Windows in such a small device. Using the touch screen to set things up or change settings got old fast. The use of the mouse with the thumbstick is just bad and clumsy. The battery life is terrible as well.

Personally I love my Ally. I use it mainly to play PC games around the house. I do not like to always be by my gaming pc and this allows me to play in bed or sitting on the couch watching tv. I have ran some emulators and AAA PC games on it, all runs great. There is a bit of a learning curve to PC gaming that most people do not realize. This is not a Nintendo Switch that you will just pick up and play you will have to likely trouble shoot issues like how to update different programs if you are not use to doing so.

If you need this, then get it. Otherwise, don't spend your money. Yeah, it is great but the battery life drains pretty fast. I will be gaming for an hour and the battery is at 50 percent already. Honestly, if you have a PC already and you are not on the road too often, then stick with Phone/Mobile gaming because this is not worth it unless you have to try something new that plays PC games, then go ahead because the best thing about it is that you can play games on here natively than playing gaming via stream so you can the best performance but you might have to lower the quality since it does not have the best hardware to play at ULTRA settings. Overall, I love the style of this but the battery life goes down quickly over an hour. Good audio. Okay controls if you are able to grip the side when playing FPS games. Download PC games (Xbox Pass, Steam, EPIC, etc.). I love the idea for this but the battery drainage and less usage for this device are the downside for me since I game a lot on my PS5 and PC...and also less traveling.

Amazing! Play any game you want without having to worry if it is compatible. Games run great. Battery life is decent. Unit charges fast.

Excelent performance, it has improved a lot with new updates. The only con is the battery life, but it was expected you can't have it all.

Have owned it for 2 weeks and no complaints. I’m impressed what the Rog Ally can do. I’ve been able to play xbox, N64, ps1 and ps5 games.

Get gaming devices however sd card situation is frustrating. SD card showed up in advance storage and now it doesn’t. Which means I can’t download all of my game library. Other than battery life it great when it’s working. This is not for someone who wants simplicity.
