Light, comfortable, plays indie games great and optimized AAA games well enough. Windows isn't the best OS and battery life can be brutal if you need high power output. I've never used steam deck but it's been great for me. Your steam, gog, epic games, etc work great. Recommend.

This thing is great! runs a bit hot though.. But honestly one of the best devices i have used. I installed all of my games and loaded up some retro games. Great on the go. Plays modern games at a decent rate.

The ROG ally is an absolutely incredible machine. It’s mind boggling that I can play literally whatever I want, anywhere I go. It’s sleek, powerful, and the software is great. Keep in mind, this is not a Nintendo switch. When you power it in, it is literally just a windows PC with a controller layout. You will have to know how to install what you need, update everything, and in general be able to tinker just a little bit to get it where it is supposed to be. But after that, the fun begins. There was nothing that it couldn’t run, and it looked great the whole time, including great frame rates. Full disclosure, I did end up going with the legion go. The bigger screen was too good to pass up, and the versatility was just better, even if the software side was a little lacking compared to the ally.

The Asus Rog Ally is a great handheld with some minor issues. I do not recomend this device if you do not llike to tinker in windows and you prefer a console experience. It takes some times getting things set up and running the way you want. There are still issues related to the sd card not reading, crashing or slowing the handheld while the sd card is inserted. The screen at 120hz variable refresh rate is great even if the fps is slower it feels smother then the steam deck. The controls are great although the thumb stick is not as good as the xbox controller. The gripe is not as grippy as the steam deck, but still passable. Performance is great. Overall would recommend to people that like to game on pc, or even console gamer if you like to tinker.

Nice hardware, great screen, impressive sound, and the absolute worst setup experience ive ever had with a computer. The microscopic text certainly didnt help, and the stick cusor is horrid. Games sometimes would not load. Some did not have functioning controls, and some would simply load indefinitely. All that and this thing runs HOT. Add to that the terrible battery life and you can keep this thing, its not for me.

I am amazed at the gaming capabilities of this little device. Build construction is overall solid. The screen looks magnificent. The controls are fine. My main complaint is the use of Windows 11 as its operating system. It's simply not optimized for use without a mouse or keyboard. Asus tries to remedy that with the Armory Crate interaction layer and by turning the right stick into a mouse, but it only goes so far. There have been many times I have been tempted to install ChimeraOS. You will also want to increase the storage. 512 GB fills up very quickly, especially with the size of today's AAA games.

Bought it and initially hated it and didn’t quite understand exactly what I was getting myself pretty tech savy. I was coming from a Nintendo switch and I came in expecting this to behave the same and when it didn’t that frustrated me. I had to remember that yes it plays games portably but it’s still a pc, so if your gonna buy one of these go into this with that in mind. It’s not gonna have stellar battery life and it’s gonna take some time to get used to. Once you get the hang of it tho it is a amazing piece of technology and I look forward to having it for years to come. It only got 4 stars because it’s not perfect but well worth the investment if your a gamer and if you don’t have a pc well now you do and a pretty powerful one at that.

The device is exceptional. Has some bugs and some downfalls, like don’t buy it expecting to use an SD card, that’s not a very reliable way to store things. It’s easy enough to upgrade the SSD, other than that I’ve had 0 issues. I haven’t attempted to use a micro sd but I have no use for them. It runs every game I have awesome, COD, Diablo4, WOW, GTAV, RDR2, all run flawlessly, the temperature might get a little high if your playing out on the sun or something, but it’s manageable, surprisingly quiet and super comfortable to hold. Most of the issues it launched with have been corrected and have all turned out to be software issues between drivers and windows. Can’t recommend this device enough and I’m completely satisfied with my purchase.

Great performance, and I've been spending lots of time playing games on this thing. Battery life is not great. Windows is not the greatest to use on this screen size, but hopefully you are using this more for games. If you need to use windows features extensively, invest in a usb c hub or dock.

This thing is a powerhouse in your hands. It’s a little beefier than a Nintendo Switch, but it’s built solid and feels premium. You’re getting a 7-inch screen with 1080p resolution and a slick 120Hz refresh rate, so everything looks crazy smooth. Plus, it’s comfy to hold for long sessions, which is a huge win if you’re gaming on the go or just chilling on the couch. Inside, it’s packing the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip, which is a fancy way of saying it can handle a lot. Games like Elden Ring run decently well on this thing – we’re talking around 30 frames per second at 1080p if you max out the settings. Lighter games? No problem; you can push higher frame rates and it handles it all fine. The screen is one of the best parts. The colors pop, and with that 120Hz refresh rate, everything feels buttery smooth. It’s also got AMD FreeSync tech, which basically means less annoying screen tearing when you’re deep in the action. Indoors, the brightness is solid, but don’t expect much visibility in bright sunlight – it’s more of an indoor beast. Battery life is where things get a bit iffy. You get about two hours of battery if you’re playing something intense at 1080p. But if you’re going hardcore in Turbo mode (which ramps up performance), expect more like 50 minutes to an hour before you need to plug in. For chill gaming sessions with easier games or lower settings, though, you’ll get closer to four hours. It runs Windows 11, so it’s like a mini-PC in your hands. You can load up Steam, Xbox Game Pass, Epic Games – whatever you want. It’s all there, but Windows on a handheld can feel a bit clunky, honestly. Asus has this Armoury Crate app that helps organize your games and tweak settings, which makes life a little easier, but it’s still Windows. The ROG Ally Z1 Extreme is a pretty sweet piece of tech. It’s got solid performance, a gorgeous screen, and access to all your PC games, making it perfect for gamers who want power without lugging around a laptop. Battery life is the one downside if you’re pushing it to its limits, but with some settings adjustments, you can make it work for longer sessions. If you’re down with the price, it’s a solid grab for portable PC gaming.

This is a fantastic little machine. If you're familiar with windows then set up is a breeze. It runs games perfectly and I've never had any issues personally. That being said, there is reports of issues with the SD card reader failing but I haven't experienced this. But that may be a deal breaker for some. Windows itself is not suited for handhelds but again, I haven't had any problems with navigating. It's a bit of a pain with the thumb sticks but it's usable. I say pick one up and give it a try.

I bought this as a replacement for my PC that broke down. the screen is beautiful and when gaming on the unit it can play all of my current titles on Steam. The issue is with docking it, there is a major latency between input and actual on-screen actions, and the windows that is unfortunately mixed in make it clunky. The battery is miserable, and setup of this machine is also weird ie:utilizing the gyro controls, utilizing the back buttons and mapping, and other things of the sort.

Pretty good handheld gaming PC. Been using this for Wolfenstein Last Colossus, Telltale Walking Dead series and Return to Moria. It handles all games really well. The only negative is the battery. It just doesnt last long unless you 'lower' the operating mode. Not a huge negative, but something to keep in mind.

Whenever I want to play a game I play it on this device because I can bring it anywhere and anytime the SD card slot doesn't work which makes me a bit sad but Ive been thinking about upgrading the storage within the unit anyway as I've been wanting to you with electronics for quite some time. It plays everything seamlessly and has never crashed a game. I've played triple a tittles at medium settings and most others at high and never had any issues

Extremely reliable and fast handheld. Easy to setup & able to run games you wouldn't expect. Elden Ring on the road? Yes. WoW on the road? Yes. LoL on the road? Yes. Outside of that, can be plugged into a display, with a mouse and keyboard. Now you have a PC with power I would compare to something between a PS4 and a PS5, a PS4.5. Easy to upgrade storage by just putting an SD card in the slot. Really nice purchase in my experience.
