Great Moblie solution.
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love using it when im on a plane and traveling. Perfect for just lounging around any where at home too. I would recommend a battery pack for extended use when no power is available near by. Plays Lies of P, Sekiro, Nier Automato, but best for metroidvainas and similar arcade style games.

More flexible than Steam Deck
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great handheld gaming PC - be aware that it is running Windows 11, and compared to the slightly less powerful Steam Deck sometimes things require some tinkering to get working properly. The big upside to me is that I can play games that are not from Steam (like XBOX Game Pass or GOG Galaxy) without having to mod or side load extra software. I am able to play Baldur’s Gate 3 at medium settings and it runs very very well. You can increase the amount of RAM the GPU gets access to, and it might even be able to run at high settings with some tweaking. To me, medium settings on the smaller screen look great and it doesn’t require much adjusting.

Great piece of gaming equipment
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great piece of equipment that straight out of the box can do what the steam deck does a bit easier. You’re able to play Xbox/ epic games/ ea/ Ubisoft games without having to do shortcuts like on the steam deck. The screen is noticeably brighter and colors come out better. The battery life is pretty bad if you play without it being plugged in and the SD card still has some issues. I replaced the SSD card for one that cost $70 and it works much better. The amount of triple A games that you can play is amazing and the current ASUS support system is wonderful. Overall yes it does have some faults, but what system doesn’t? Overall I would highly recommended this.

Almost Perfect Handheld
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this on sale open box over the Steam Deck because it is significantly more powerful, and the size is still compact unlike the Legion Go. The 120Hz VRR display is great and the storage can easily be upgraded with a large 2280NVMe SSD (I put a 2TB in mine). I tested the SD card reader and mine is already fried so be mindful of that, but it's not a feature I cared about. It runs games like Cyberpunk 2077, Forza, and Starfield with ease. Windows takes some getting used too on a device like this, but Asus's software makes it a much better experience. Very happy with my purchase as I've finally found the handheld that meets my needs.

ASUS ROG ALLY Z-XTREME
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product has been one of my favorite purchases I've made in the last few years. Although there is heavy competition amongst MSI and Lenovo, such as the claw for example, it has been a pleasing experience. As long as you are willing to make small compromises dependent upon the game you play, (fps, resolution, etc.) it will play whatever title you throw at it as well as AAA games. The User interface is much better in comparison to its rivals. You can find one likely in open box condition, although you should run a full diagnostic test on the model(double check the analog sticks, as they diagnostic won't show up whether or not they work well), as well as buy hall effect joy sticks and a great dock and/or skin for the device for a better long run experience. I recieved a defective unit my first purchase and a death in the family around the time of purchase, and my local BestBuy manager gave me a new model after signing up for membership even though it was an item purchased beforehand. He worked with me very well on this and was very understanding. Know you will make small compromises here and there when buying this and only game for up to 3-4 hrs without a power source. However, if you go into it eyes-open it can replace your PS4, PS5, Steam Deck, and PS Portal. Its a wonderful device. However, you should definitely educate yourself on the basics of gaming computers beforehand. This was my entry into the gaming community, and I am already shopping for the laptop to pair it with. Definitely consider the BestBuy Plus membership for $50/year, as it is a godsend being able to purchase open box items with a 60 day warranty. You wont regret it. Just remember, THIS IS NOT A NINTENDO SWITCH OR XBOX, it is a portable(and powerful) gaming laptop configured in the manner of a controller.

Superior to the steam deck in almost every way
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The performance this pushes out is insane, leagues better than the competing steam deck. The controls feel great but I have to say the analog sticks feel a little sensitive they're not as stiff as the steam deck's but still work good. The screen is miles ahead of the steam deck and the 16:9 display is more fit for games as some have trouble with the taller aspect ratio. And coming with windows instead of linux means compatibility with every game you own not just a few.

Amazing handheld, but has issues!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have never had a handheld pc and setting up this device took me a good amount of time. There were many bugs and issues for the first week, but has slowly gotten better after updates. To be honest there are still quite a few bugs that have made it annoying to deal with, but with all that I enjoy what this device has to offer and would buy again. There are big pros and big cons, but it is starting to be more pleasant and time passes. The battery life is terrible, so be ready to have the charger on hand. If you’re on the fence, maybe wait for updates to refine the experience and get one.

Handheld Gaming Beast
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love my Rog Ally. my only complaint is the battery and storage. I get about 1.5hrs gameplay before I need to charge. Ive turned it into a retro gaming boss with a bunch of current games but im already full storage wise. also recommend Getting a better dock. as the one that comes with is basically cardboard.

Love it but the battery life is…..
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this tiny computer! I’m an avid horror game player and I’ve played through RE7 and RE8 with no issues. The only thing I can complain about is the battery life. The battery life is only about 2 hours so not that great for long road trips but good for lounging on the couch and breaks at work.

So close to greatness
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall I'm really liking the Ally and am very glad I purchased it. I picked up the Steam Deck during Valve's Summer sale and enjoyed handheld gaming so much that I wanted to expand the games I could play in handheld format. I know you CAN get battle.net games to run on the Steam Deck but I also wanted to natively play Game Pass games and that is where the Ally comes in. Diablo IV runs nicely and I'm really enjoying Sea of Stars, Hi-Fi Rush, and Fallout 4 on the Ally. I have a bunch of games in the backlog and the Ally is letting me play them. I have a very nice gaming PC but often I don't want to sit at a desk or just want to play 20-30 minutes before bed after a busy day and Ally fits perfectly for that. My main complaints are Windows related and keeping the Ally software updated. Windows is just annoying to use on a small screen and with a gamepad but this really only comes into play when updating the software and getting new games. But updating this thing/keeping it up to date is very annoying. MyAsus doesn't get the latest drivers so I usually end up going to Asus support page to manually download and install the latest updates. The Asus support page for downloading drivers is FAR from perfect. It's actually tricky to find all the drivers because of how they display them on the site. AMD doesn't seem to directly support the Ally via their update tools so you need to be careful with getting things from the AMD site. Lastly, Windows update can install the wrong version of software/drivers. Fingers crossed I'm running the best drivers. Maybe Asus and Windows will figure things out. The Steam Deck is just so much more streamlined.

Amazing portable gaming pc
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ROG ally is a beast. Easily keeps up with mid range gaming laptops when used in turbo mode. Yes, the battery drains quickly, but what gaming laptop last longer than a couple of hours at best? No issues with the joy sticks as some reviews have stated, and after a few BIOS updates, most of the bigger bugs have disappeared. As far as windows 11 is concerned, once you have the device setup, you almost never have to use it again, except for updates and such. Everything gaming related is launched through Armoury crate. Storage could’ve been bumped to at least a terabyte, but it can be very easily upgraded. Paired with a usb hub with hdmi output, keyboard and mouse, the ROG Ally is the ultimate portable gaming rig for travel.

My GO TO NonConsole Console
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I own all 3 current consoles generations and can say this is my go to now. When the wife is on the TV I can remote play PS5 just as well as the ps portal, play any Xbox gamepass game either native if it has a PC Version or stream from Xbox Cloud if not the the emulation is untouched. I've been revisiting the Gamecube and PS3 just awsome. Then you always have your steam collection using the steam hardware so this is also basically a steamdeck but much stronger.the only problem is the Battery life but I'm around a plug in our car plug at most times. You can use a laptop battery bank also to keep your game going.

Great gaming device
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great design, right size and weight. Performance better than I expected. Windows is not the best OS for this form factor but with Xreal glasses and Bluetooth keyboard this becomes a very decent desktop computer. For retro gaming this is a perfect platform. Emudeck handles most of the heavy lifting. Battery life could have been better but I am more than happy especially since I carry a 65W batter pack with me which doubles the play time.

Good but could be great
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Honestly what i expected, only handheld I’ve had gas been the switch lite and considering this is more powerful the battery life is understandable. It’s not perfect and you will need to tweak settings and or be close to a true power source. With the current updates that were released (12/21/2023) it has tremendously helped games like CyberPunk 2077, Horizon Zero Dawn, etc run more smoothly in the 15w option while not killing the battery within 1.5 hour . Pushing about 1.75/2.5 hours in total now.

Handheld PC.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great handheld device. The battery life leaves a bit to be desired but that is to be expected with such a compact device pushing this much power. The internal layout is very diy when it comes to fixing or replacing parts. 120hz refresh rate and the ips display looks really nice. This machine can run a lot of games from emulation all the way up to modern AAA titles with some caveats when it comes to newer more demanding titles. Windows is not the best for a handheld if you are not used to pc gaming but it allows for compatibility with pretty much any game. Also you can load your own OS if you want a more steam deck "like" experience. The price could be a bit better but I wouldn't say it's overpriced for what you get.

My go to Handheld
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Awesome little device. I use it almost everyday with Steam games, mostly, but also have Battle.net and Epic. Even though it is not the most powerful, it plays everything I want it to, with no problems. Add in AMD Frame Gen 2, and you get a pleasant gaming experience on the go.

Beast
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best purchase ever! Plays most games at medium settings 1080p but with amd up scaling you can boost the performance even more. Feels alot like a miniature computer more than a handheld. Fair warning battery life is not amazing. While playing a game like Elden ring I average 45-50 minutes before needing to plug the console back in.
