Great if you come in with the right expectations
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall it's a great package if you know what you're getting into. Battery life kinda sucks. Get a power bank if you're away from an outlet for an extended time. A good bank around 100WH will give you 3-6 hours away from a plug without a huge amount of bulk. Running Windows is the biggest pro and biggest con. It's so much nicer than using a Steam Deck for 3rd party store support. Sure there are ways to use most others with the Deck, but Game Pass support and not needing to worry about too much extra config is great if you use those. Steam's Big Picture mode goes a long way to make it similar to the Deck when using and is lovely. If you need better mouse support though, the Legion Go or the Steam Deck are still better in this regard (RTS or other games that don't translate to controllers). I actually quite like the right thumbstick for mouse control, but only for navigation, I can't imagine using it for playing. There's a right angle adapter to fit full size 2280 m.2 drives. Get a cacheless model such as the Lexar NM790 is a great way to not increase power draw vs the supported 2230 drives. I've got 4TB with a similar power package staying in safe temps. It's wild having that much gaming library available anywhere.

As expected. Great contender to the steam deck
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With all these handhelds coming out. This one has to be my favorite. If you know windows then this will be a breeze to operate. I wish they didn’t rush it after they announced the console because there are a lot of bugs and a crucial sd card reader problem currently going on. I was one of the unfortunate ones that my sd card reader stopped working. Other that that an amazing device!

Incredible device!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this thing. I also love my steam deck. However this one ups the steam deck in nearly every category. The capability of the hardware is incredible. I do belive it needs more software refinement (just as my steam deck did at launch). I have no doubt that they will continue to improve this device via updates to unleash its full potential. Great job Asus! Being able to boot up ANY game i want to play without having to jump through hoops is incredible. Especially if you are a gamepass subscriber.

Good portable for gaming
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good portable for gaming I think this is the best portable gaming solution on the market right now. Excellent build quality. I tested several games and everything is fine. There was one problem that the back button creaks sometimes. But other than that I highly recommend

An excellent handheld if you have a PC gamer
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's a good gaming console, Im very impresed I can emulate GameCube on the lowest wattage that the console can bring me, it can run all my library at good framerates. The build quality is good, not perfect but is good. One of the fan is making a low frequency sound lately. The speakers are so good, the display is also good. Sometimes the software is kind of buggy, but if you have experience with Windows, is not going to be a big problem.

Great Performance, Low Battery
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is a beast for being a handheld. You can run anything that would run on a Windows PC. I do not suggest this if you’re not tech savy as there is not really any sort of console experience, its straight Windows. If you are then this thing is great but just make sure you’re near an outlet because this thing dies in less than 2 hours.

Excellent IF you can find one with good QC.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's cheaper than an OLED Steam Deck and in my honest to god opinion it's a better deal than the Steam Deck because it can run Windows titles. Now, the Steam Deck is a good mix of hardware and software, a page out of apple's handbook. This is...Windows. Asus tried to make it optimized for their device but at the end of the day...windows will be windows. That said, for the games I wanted to play this was more than fine! I really enjoyed it! However that's assuming you can find one that doesn't have gaps, or squeaky triggers, or what have you. I'd personally would check in the store before taking one home. Asus and QC are...like oil and water. But once you find the one, it's absolutely worth it imo. The one negative is the USB port isn't USB 4. it was capped at 3.2 so that we'd buy their OVERPRICED XG Mobile eGPU which hilariously costs more than the unit itself. Absolutely dumb.

ROG Ally
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To be honest it is a great system. It loads fast and being a Windows based system it is very user friendly. My only gripe is that the system comes with a 512GB SSD but can be upgraded with an SD card. My left bumper has a squeaky sound but it does not affect the way it plays its just a little annoying. I am playing Steam games, some free to play games, and Xbox Game Pass runs great! The ASUS dock was not in stock when I purchased this so I will have to update my review at a later time.

Ok but not great.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great concept But, if you wanna play competitively this is not it. This is more like offline games. Playing FIFA online or any shooting game online is unplayable. You’re gonna lose. And when I say online games, I’m talking about playing games at 1080p 40-60fps And some are lower than 40fps which I really don’t wanna play games with those fps. Also sometimes it freezes and you gotta hard reset. Goes to deep sleep and the only way to turn it on is hard reset. Battery in turbo is like 1 hr and 20 mins It gets hot. Inserted sd in slot and got my rig Ally slow. Maybe it was about to burn idk. Button on top are too small too. When I saw this I was so excited, I was like I’ll be able to game in my bed. Besides all the faults, after a while it’s tiring holding it. Overall if you don’t care about all those negative I mentioned you should be able to enjoy it. I wish I could’ve enjoy it. Just get an open box for $500 Is not worth $600 or $700

Awesome Product, Acceptable Price
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This handheld looks incredible from the time point you open the box. I am extremely impressed so far for the price of the device. Feels nice and solid when holding it and it is comfortable in your hands. Don't let bad reviews deter you from the product at the start. Ive had 0 issues with updates and installing anything. Plays smooth with everything I've tried thus far. I love this device so far.

Treat Yourself
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very good for when you are on the go or just want to sit on the couch to play your PC games. I would not personally aim for high GB games, because you will run out of space so quickly. Singleplayer games shine here. Dead By Daylight is my main game, and it runs amazingly.

More than i hoped for
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This device has gotten a lot of updates and asus has been supporting it greatly. Windows can be a blessing and a curse in that you cant just play a game. You have to stay on top of those updates and they are found in multiple places armory crate snd asus app for drivers, including the standard windows updates. Once you get through that the armory crate has a ton of options and you can take your time learning all of those. Only downside is battery life. I get normally about an hr and a half off the charge. Expect to not fully max out on your games and play mostly on meddium settings. Some may ask then why even have the options. Well becuase it comes down to choice and what you prioritize as more important when gaming. This is influenced by what you play and how demanding it is. Some simple games and side scrollers you can go crazy with. Some games have great scenery so you want textures and resolution maxed without effecting game play to much, in that case you lower other settings. Windows handheld is all about choices and tweaking things to get the most of what you want from that particular game. The ability to play more demanding games with compromise is the point of this type of device. Where as something like a switch they make the decision for you and just plug it in. With windows you have full access to steam, epic's game store and xbox gamepass. Its delightful and at a good price.

Great handheld PC with some caveats
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a Steam Deck owner, I was disappointed with the incompatibility of certain games that I wanted to play, namely some of the older stuff from the mid-2000s and visual novels. I decided to pick up a ROG Ally since it was Windows-based, and lo and behold, I now had full compatibility of said games and more! That being said, I do wish the Ally had trackpads for point-and-click games and easier Windows navigation, something that the upcoming Ally X revision also lacks. There's also the infamous ASUS customer service issues, as well as SD card overheating issues. Overall, if you're looking for a good Windows alternative to the Steam Deck, I would say get the ROG Ally (or the X if you can afford it). However, if you want a device that is also easy to use as a handheld computer, I would actually look into the Lenovo Legion Go instead.

Gaming at your fingertips
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this on day on, June 13th, 2023 and have had a positive experience to date. ASUS is steadily rolling out updates which have improved performance (which was already awesome), ease of use (UI), and battery use. Comfortable to hold , with an amazing 1080p display and refresh rate up to 120hz. A lot of gaming performance in a small, surprisingly light package.

Favorite Windows based handheld
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I already own a SteamDeck, and initially just wanted a Windows based handheld for Game Pass games. However, I've used this more and more by the day. I use it more than the SteamDeck. The screen is great, ergonomics are awesome. The only detail would be the battery, which drains pretty fast. But that's to be expected.

ROG two thumbs up!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ROG ally is the perfect middle ground between the Steamdeck and the Legion Go. The 120hz screen makes playing PC games a joy, the size is great for easy travel, the hall joysticks are very nice and produce almost zero drift. The main thing missing is a track pad. Navigating windows is a bit of a pain but ROG has their own software overlay that uses maining the control pad.

It's Good, but not Great (yet). I Returned It.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was only playing mostly Steam games on it, but realized that the Steam Deck out does the Ally in that regard. Other than that, the Ally is very powerful, but not powerful enough to make me not need my Steam Deck. So for that I returned it. The biggest reason I got the Ally was to play Diablo 4, but again, that also works really well on the Steam Deck. If you are very familiar with Windows gaming, it is a great handheld. It's very powerful, people get great specs out of games you wouldn't even dream of playing on the Steam Deck. And if you're into juggling updates, worrying if the SD card reader will nuke your card, and constantly wondering you should get the XG Mobile, then this is it. All kidding aside, I wouldn't say it's a good place to start Windows gaming. Just not a great place. Armory Crate does well in managing your library and being able to update your settings on the fly very easily. Being able to play MS GamePass, EPIC, and Blizzard games on the go is also very awesome Also there's no denying it's pretty powerful even if you want to use it as you main computer. But in the end, it wasn't for me at full price. If it goes on sale I'll reconsider. Or even if I win $400 for doing this review, I will surely pick it up again (*ahem* Best Buy). For me, I just wasn't in the market for just okay at that price so it went back.

Great product.
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Workhorse of a PC. It’s basically a laptop in a handheld form. Windows could be set up a little friendlier to select what you need when in hand held mode vs docked. Just wish it had more RAM and battery life. The left stick was a little loose and I’ve already upgraded the SSD to a 1tb unit. A little awkward in the hand, could be more ergonomic hence my purchase of a grin to fit better in the hand and not cause cramping.
