    Handheld Windows device

Good handheld Windows gaming machine. You will have to fiddle with game and machine settings to get the best performance. Some people will expect more of a console experience and be disappointed with this device. Battery life isn't the best, but with the performance of the device and the size that is normal.

It’s really nice being able to play mostly any game on one device. The battery life could be better but if you don’t plan on traveling with it then keeping it charged shouldn’t be too big a deal. The charger reaches pretty far and charges fast. It’s also a nice device to use just as a computer that and it’s kinda easy setting it up.

Overall it is is a great device. It has issues such as crashing occasionally and poor battery life. But keep in mind the 'handheld gaming PC' is still relatively new technology. So there are bound to be issues with any of the new handhelds. Personally I thought the device felt uncomfortable in my hands after a while gaming.

    Pretty amazing

It is still a surprisingly powerful device. It can run all older games without any compromise, newer games can run with higher fps with some graphic downgrades. It is amazing to be able to play PC games while not being tied to the desk. Navigating windows using a relatively small screen and touch controls sometimes is pretty cumbersome. Some ui elements sometimes do not display correctly or are beyond the screen limits. The main downside is battery life. It lasts a little over an hour when using full power of its hardware. You can get around 2-3 hours with reduced settings. This problem is solved with a good power bank, which can double the runtime of this device. Another issue is I guess you could call quality control. Right speaker has an intermittent issue of working at a reduced volume, which started happening from almost the day of the purchase. Software updates could not fix the problem. These devices also have problems with memory cards and card readers, since they fail at a high rate because of overheating due to poor placement. I discovered that my card reader did not work few months after the purchase, when I decided to expand the storage. Currently my ally is in service to address these two issues, hopefully it will come out fixed. Turnover time is up to 4 weeks, so keep that in mind.

As a Steam Deck owner, I was disappointed with the incompatibility of certain games that I wanted to play, namely some of the older stuff from the mid-2000s and visual novels. I decided to pick up a ROG Ally since it was Windows-based, and lo and behold, I now had full compatibility of said games and more! That being said, I do wish the Ally had trackpads for point-and-click games and easier Windows navigation, something that the upcoming Ally X revision also lacks. There's also the infamous ASUS customer service issues, as well as SD card overheating issues. Overall, if you're looking for a good Windows alternative to the Steam Deck, I would say get the ROG Ally (or the X if you can afford it). However, if you want a device that is also easy to use as a handheld computer, I would actually look into the Lenovo Legion Go instead.

Love my ROG ally. As an older guy the screen is a bit small for me, but I found that using it like a portable game system and connecting it to tv or monitor is awesome. Just as powerful as a notebook but more compact.

I already own a SteamDeck, and initially just wanted a Windows based handheld for Game Pass games. However, I've used this more and more by the day. I use it more than the SteamDeck. The screen is great, ergonomics are awesome. The only detail would be the battery, which drains pretty fast. But that's to be expected.

Out of the box it can be a little troublesome to get set up but this is an absolutely amazing machine. The only drawback is the limited battery life. Playing on the go, you might want to be close to a power outlet. You can also play around with certain settings to get longer battery life. From playing current AAA games to the classics this thing does it all!

For the price, the best handheld in 2025. Yes, the asus rog ally x has more battery, but you are playing at home 90% of the time. Elden ring, assasins creed, Warzone and forza runs 80fps++

    Zero to PC Gamer instantly

I’m not a Windows guy—you can call me an Apple fanboy if you want, but frankly i have never had any reason to own a PC. It’s a simple fact, however, that Macs are not at all adept at serious gaming. And there has never been anything I’d want to play badly enough to spend over $1,000 on for a bloated hot-air genersting glowing box. So the ASUS ROG Ally is aimed directly at me. I’m a console gamer who wants to play PC titles with decent if not very good performance that gives me the option to connect to a larger screen and whatever peripheral i need. I want something thst takes up zero desktop or floor space because its more likely to be in my backpack than sitting in my apartment. And i want it to just work—i get that its a computer and not handhelfd cartridge-loading mobile gaming device, so my expectations are less than a Steam Deck or a Switch, but i also have no patience for optimizing and tweaking settings and purchasing parts as more experienced gamers go on about with their gaming rigs. Quite simply, the Ally let me have a fairly powerful Windows PC in a nice handheld gaming case, and i have to use my brain to get games on it and play. Easily done. It has made me instantly able to play a galaxy of PC games id never even considered before simply because the price of entry—in dollars and in hassle—was too steep. Now, for about the price of a nice console gaming setup, i can reliably play games sithout taking out a loan or having a resource hog live rent free in my home. If you’re a confident tech person (e.g. know how to install things in Windows) who just couldnt imagine building a dedicated PC for the games you play for fun and not for the sake of testing the limits of your hardware, this may well be the entry point for you.

I have both the steam deck and the ROG Ally and what’s great about the ROG is that runs windows and basically you are able to run any game from any PC game service including gamepass, also the touch screen is more responsive than the one on the steam deck. Armory crate is pretty decent but it could be a little more responsive. Also the 15 watts performace is better on the deck but the 25 and 30 watts performaces y amazing, it will devour your battery

Awesome little computer that you can take with you anywhere. The APU works great, I've played Elden Ring (works on >25W profile), City Skylines, Fallout 4, and Forza Horizon 5, Frostpunk, and Aven. All work great. Screen is wonderful, though I wouldn't recommend you play strategy or city building games on it (use the USB C connector to display it on a bigger screen and use a mouse/keyboard). All the buttons and joysticks work great as expected.

Great device, ram should’ve been higher, will run current heavy titles at 40 fps with some drops, But older games and classic games run at very high fps, Would buy again. complains are battery life, it heats up, and the joysticks aren’t the best, but other than that it’s all wonderful.

So this thing is crazy!! Its NOT, REPEAT NOT stream lined like the deck(own both) to be console like. This is a gaming laptop with contollers attached. It does have ita issues but so far I have none that are major and easily fixed. In the end so far...worth every dang cent! Grab yours if higher end AAA games are what you want to play without limits

This is my first P.C. handheld. I am pleased with the performance and the weight. I highly recommended for home use. I use it plugged in as the battery only lasts 2 hours. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because of the battery life. In today's market $450 is a great price to play AAA games or stream gamepass games.

Great gaming device just have to tinker with settings a bit. Battery life isn't the greatest but for an hour or so on performance mode on lunch it's great. Charges fast and the 7 inch screen is plenty big enough for games. Only issues I've had is windows having issues logging in pretty consistently so once I changed the account to a local one I've had zero issues being able to do everything on it. It does hurt your hands after a bit so a grip case is a must. The case that came with the bundle is ok, better case would be more useful but it does the job.

I have a Steam Deck and I barely touched Steam Deck once i got my ROG Ally. With that said my SD card Slot did stop working, and it seems to be caused by too much heat close to the SD card slot on Ally. If you plan on upgrading SSD inside the Rog this will not be much of a problem.
